Week 5

The lesson plan for Science III focuses on the properties of materials and their changes, specifically the transition from liquid to gas through evaporation. Students will engage in discussions, experiments, and assessments to understand the effects of temperature on materials. The plan includes activating prior knowledge, establishing lesson purposes, and evaluating learning through formative assessments.

B. Performance Standards Group common objects found at home and in school according to solids, liquids and gas.
C. Learning Competencies Describe changes in materials based on the effect of temperature:
and Objectives 1. Liquid to Gas
II. TEACHING AND LEARNING PROCEDURE

f. Can you name some liquids that can be turn to solids?

g. What do we call that process?
h. What do we need to turn liquids to solids?
B. Establishing Lesson Purpose 1. Lesson Purpose
At the end of the lesson, learners are expected to:
1. Identify the changes form from Liquid to Solid
2. Appraise the importance of the change.
3. Discover the changes of Liquid materials when exposed to high temperature.

Motivation:
 Have you ever wondered why it rains?
 What do you think is the reason?
 Is rain important to us? Why?
 Are there harmful effects of a heavy rain?
 What do you think are the reasons of landslides and flood?
 How do we take good care of our surroundings?
C. Developing and 1. Explicitation
Deepening What would happen to liquid when heated or exposed to sunlight after some time?
Understanding
The process of changing liquids into gas is called evaporation.
When water is boiled or heated, its volume slowly decreases since some part of it turn into gas which is called
water vapor that
rises to the air. This is why water becomes less after it boils. Same thing happens when you put acetone in an
open container.
After sometime, you will not see the acetone anymore. This is because it has already evaporated or turned into
gas.

2. Worked Example
Let us read the situation below.
Last Saturday, Gina washed her clothes and hanged it outside under the sun.
After 8 hours, she got all the clothes, folded it and
kept it in the cabinet.
Questions:
1. What do you think happen to the wet clothes after 8 hours?
2. What do you think happened to the water that disappeared?
3. What do you think is the reason it evaporated?
4. What was the effect of the heat of the sun to the water?
5. What change in material took place?
D. Making  Phase change can happen when the temperature of the material is increased.
Generalizations  Evaporating happens by increasing the temperature of the materials.
 Liquids can be changed into gases by evaporating.
III. EVALUATING LEARNING: FORMATIVE ASSESSMENT AND TEACHER’S REFELCTION
A. Evaluating Learning 1. Formative Assessment
Directions: Identify the change in materials that takes place in each sentence. Put a check of the change is from
liquid to gas.
Put wrong mark if it is not.
1. Water changes to water vapor upon boiling
2. Oil hardens when placed in a refrigerator
3. Drops of alcohol dries on the hands after a few minutes
4. Bottle of acetone empties after some time left uncovered.
5. Butter melts when heated in a pan.
DAY 3
III. TEACHING AND LEARNING PROCEDURE
A. Activating Prior Knowledge 1. Short Review
In our previous lesson, we have learned that there were some liquids that can change into solids.
What do we call this process?
And there are solids that can change into liquids.
What do we call that process?
In this lesson, we will learn that there are some liquids that can change into gases.
What are gases anyway?
Can you give examples of gases?
How about liquids? Can you give examples of liquids?
Can we change those liquid that you’ve given into gas?
How?
B. Establishing Lesson Purpose 1. Lesson Purpose
At the end of the lesson, learners are expected to:
1. Identify the changes form from Liquid to Solid
2. Appraise the importance of the change.
3. Discover the changes of Liquid materials when exposed to high temperature.

C. Developing and 1. Explicitation

Deepening Understanding Let us read the story below. Then answer the following questions.
CK, a Grade 3 pupil from Luzong Elementary School was curious on what will happen to water when placed
under the sun for
a certain time. So, he decided to do an experiment.
One day, he filled a container with 10 mL of water. Then, he put the container under the heat of the sun within
30minutes.
After 30 minutes, he observed that the level of the water became less and dropped into 5mL.

1. Was there any change in the volume of the water after 30 minutes?
2. How much volume of the water has been lost?
3. What do you think happened to the water that has been lost?
4. What is the effect of the heat of the sun to the water?
The process of changing liquids into gas is called evaporation.
When water is boiled or heated, its volume slowly decreases since some part of it turn into gas which is called
water vapor that
rises to the air. This is why water becomes less after it boils. Same thing happens when you put acetone in an
open container.
After sometime, you will not see the acetone anymore. This is because it has already evaporated or turned into
gas.

2. Worked Example
Let us find out what will happened to the following situations.
1. You play with your friends and you sweat to much. What will happened to your sweat after a few minutes?
2. Your mother is cooking your favorite soup. What happens to the soup if it keeps boiling after 30 minutes?
3. What do you call the water that has turned into gas during evaporation?
4. What do you call the process of changing liquid into gas?
D. Making Generalizations Phase change can happen when the temperature of the material is increased.
Evaporating happens by increasing the temperature of the materials.
Liquids can be changed into gases by evaporating.
IV. EVALUATING LEARNING: FORMATIVE ASSESSMENT AND TEACHER’S REFELCTION

DAY 4
III. TEACHING AND LEARNING PROCEDURE
A. Activating Prior Knowledge 1. Short Review
Did you know that matter can change its forms into another?
What do you think will happen if a liquid object is placed under the heat?
What would happen next? What if we put a liquid object inside the refrigerator?
An object can undergo different kinds of changes. In this lesson you will know how a liquid object turns into gas.

Deepening Understanding Let’s experiment!
Materials Needed for the Experiment
 Water
 Marker
 Heat of the sun
Instructions:
a. Put the water in the beaker or in a transparent drinking glass.
b. Mark the level of water by using the marker and record it.
c. After putting a mark on the level of water in the transparent drinking glass, let it stand outside under the
heat of
the sun for 30 minutes.
d. Observed what will happen to the water.
e. After 30 minutes, mark again the level of water and record the second mark you make.

 What have you found out?

 Is there a difference between the level of water?
 What happen to the level of water?
 What do you think is the effect of the sun on the water?
 What have you learned during your experiment?

Evaporation is the physical change of liquid matter to gas. Through evaporation water changes to gas when it is
heated.
For example: In your house, when your mother boils water in the casserole. The steam is release when the water
is boiling
inside the casserole.
A. Evaluating Learning 1. Formative Assessment
Directions: read and understand the statement carefully, then write the word true if the statement is correct and
write false if
the statement is wrong.
1. Freezing is the physical change of liquid matter to gas.
2. Evaporation will occur if the liquid turns into gas.
3. Evaporation happens when water changes to gas when it is heated.
4. Condensation is the process when a liquid matter turns into solid.
5. A liquid turn into gas when it is freezing.
6. Water can be solid, liquid and gas.
7. Freezing is an example of physical change in matter.
8. Water become solid when it is heated.
