SAI Windows XP USB Driver Installation
The following files are on the install CD in the USB folder and will be installed on the PC in the
c:\winnt\system32\drives or c:\winnt\inf subdirectories:
a) LoadQNIC.inf calls LoadQNIC.sys, renamed by XP to be OEMx.inf
b) LoadQNIC.sys driver that loads the QNIC EZ-USB firmware
c) QNICcom.inf, assigns HidCom.sys to QNIC EZ-USB
d) LoadSPI.inf calls LoadSPI.sys, renamed by XP to be OEMx.inf
e) LoadSPI.sys driver that loads the SPI EZ-USB firmware
f) SPIcom.inf, assigns HidCom.sys to SPI EZ -USB
g) HidCom.sys virtual com port program
Prior to driver installation the Device Manager will display the USB Generic Hub and two USB channels as follows:
1) Insert qMWD/W32 install CD into drive
2) Cancel the installation
3) Turn power ON to SAI
4) Connect the USB cable from the SAI USB port to the qMWDSAPC USB port.
The following windows will appear:

1) Click Next
2) Click Continue Anyway

3) Click Finish
4) Click Next

5) Click Continue Anyway
6) Open Device Manager
Device Manager should now list the two
EZ-USB components as Other Devices
7) Click Finish

8) Open Device Manager
Expand the Human Interface Section, 4
items will be listed
Highlight, then right click on either
HID - Human Interface Device listed
Choose Update Driver
Update Driver Sequence:
Replaces HID driver with required
Hidcom.sys driver
9) Click Next
10) Click Next

Highlight the High Speed Recorder –
QNIC Virtual COM Port or SPI
Virtual COM Port
11) Click Next>
As the Hidcom.sys does not have a digital
signature, Windows XP will present this
warning
12) Click Continue Anyway
Copies SPI or QNIC files.

13) Open Device Manager
Expand the Human Interface Section, 2
items will be listed
Highlight the remaining
HID - Human Interface Device listed
Choose Update Driver
Update Driver Sequence:
Replaces HID driver with required
Hidcom.sys driver
14) Click Next
15) Click Next

As the Hidcom.sys does not have a

present this warning
17) Click Continue Anyway
Copies SPI or QNIC files.

18) Open Device Manager
The QNIC and SPI Virtual COM Ports
will now be listed in the
Ports (COM & LPT) section
