Worksheet Total Marks : 25

Mensuration

Que 1 (A) A statement of Assertion (A) is followed by a statement of Reason (R). [5]
Choose the correct option.
1. Statement A (Assertion) : The volume of a hall, which is 5 times as high as it
is broad and 8 times as long as it is high, is 12.8m3 . The breadth of the
hall is 25cm.
Statement R (Reason) : The total surface area of a cuboid of length (l),
breadth (b) and height (h) is 2[lb + bh + lh] .
(A) Both assertion (A) and reason ( R ) are true and reason (R) is the correct
explanation of assertion (A) .
(B) Both assertion (A) and reason ( R ) are true and reason (R) is not the correct
explanation of assertion (A).
(C) Assertion (A) is true but reason (R) is false.
(D) Assertion (A) is false but reason (R) is true.
Ans. : (d) : Let breadth of a hall be x and height = 5x Length = 8 × 5x = 40x

Volume of hall = x × 5x × 40x = 200x

3

But, volume of hall = 12.8m3

3 3 3 12.8 8
∴ 200x = 12.8m ⇒ x = =
200 125

⇒ x = 0.4m = 40cm

∴ Assertion is false but Reason is true.

2. Statement A (Assertion) : From a solid cylinder, whose height is 12cm and
diameter 10cm, a conical cavity of same height and same diameter is
hollowed out. Then, volume of the cone is
2200 3
cm .
7

Statement R (Reason) : If a conical cavity of same height and same

diameter is hollowed out from a cylinder of height h and base radius r,
then volume of the cone will be half of the volume of the cylinder.

Ans. : (c) : Volume of cylinder and volume of conical cavity

2 1 2
∵ = πr h = πr h
3

Volume of cone Volume of cylinder

1
∴ =
3

So, Reason is false.

Page 1
Now, diameter of cone = 10cm

∴ Radius of cone, r = 5cm

Also, height of cone, h = 12cm
Volume of cone =

πr h

3. Statement A (Assertion) : A godown building is in the form as shown in the

figure. The vertical cross section parallel to the width side of the building is
a rectangle 7 m × 3m , mounted by a semicircle of radius 3.5m.

The inner measurements of the cuboidal portion of the building are

10m × 7m × 3m . Then, the volume of the godown is 406m3 .
Statement R (Reason) : Volume of the solid made up by combination of
two or more basic solids will be equal to the sum of the volumes of the
constituent basic solid.

Ans. : (d) : A godown building consists of cuboid at the bottom and the top of the
building is in the form of 1

2
of the cylinder.
Length of the cuboid, l = 10m ,
Breadth of the cuboid, b = 7m
Height of the cuboid, h = 3m
Volume of the cuboid = lbh = 10 × 7 × 3
3
= 210m .
Radius of the cylinder = 3.5m
Length of the cylinder = 10m

Page 2
Volume of the half cylinder =

Volume of the godown Volume of the

2 7

cuboid + Volume of the half cylinder = 210 + 192.5 = 402.5m

3

∴ Assertion is false but Reason is true.

4. Statement A (Assertion) : The radii of two cylinders are in the ratio 2 : 3
and their heights are in the ratio 5 : 3 . Then, the ratio of their volume is
5 : 3.

Statement R (Reason) : Volume of cylinder , where be the radius

2
= πr h r

and h be the height.

Ans. : (d) : Clearly, Statement-II is true.Let radii of two cylinders are 2x and 3x and
heights of two cylinders are 5y and 3y respectively.
Volume of cylinder I
∴ Required ratio =
Volume of cylinder II

π×2x×2x×5y
= = 20 : 27
π×3x×3x×3y

∴ Assertion is false but Reason is true.

5. Statement A (Assertion): The sum of the length (l) , breadth (b) and height

(h) of a cuboid is 19cm and its diagonal is 5√5cm . Its surface area is
236cm . 2

Statement R (Reason): The lateral surface area of a cuboid is 2(l + b) .

Ans. : (c) : We have, l + b + h = 19cm

−−−−−−−−− – 2 2 2
2 2 2
√l + b + h = 5√5 ⇒ l + b + h = 125

2 2
⇒ (l + b + h) = 19

2 2 2
⇒ l +b +h + 2(lb + bh + lh) = 361

⇒ 2(lb + bh + lh) = 361 − 125

S.A. of cuboid = 236cm2

Lateral surface area does not include top and base.

Page 3
⇒ L.S.A. = 2(bh + lh) = 2(b + l)h

∴ Assertion is true but Reason is false.
