academic achievement of pupils [5,9,14,15]. Research shows pupils from wealthy homes could easily
have access to learning aids than pupils from poor homes. ...

the performance of their children in school. Parents having attained higher education have a better
appreciation of the importance of their children's education than parents who may not have attended

SUMMARIZATION OF STUDY: Students' Academic Performance is vital for assessing a student's standing
within a university. It makes it possible for academic staff, educational administrators, and decision-
makers to precisely evaluate students taking various courses throughout a semester. Additionally, it
served as a cautionary tale for the students to assess their performance level and make subsequent
improvements. According to official statistics in Oman, the number of students who don't graduate on
time and college dropouts rise dramatically yearly. These problems hindered Oman's higher education
mission. All stakeholders in Oman's higher education system must pay attention to these statistics. The
main objective of our paper is to identify what factors most influence students' academic performance.
Systematic literature review is used as the technique to identify the factors. This paper presents a
comprehensive review of the factors affecting student academic performance. The results revealed that
low entry grades, family support, accommodation, student gender, previous assessment grade, student
internal assessment grade, GPA, and students' e-learning activity are the most significant factors
influencing students' academic performance. This finding would be helpful for other researchers
interested in academic performance issues such as modeling the predicting students' academic
performance.

OWN EXPLANATION: Academic performance refers to how well a student does in their schoolwork and
is important for understanding a student’s progress in a university. It helps teachers, school officials, and
decision-makers check how well students are learning in their different subjects each semester. For
students, it serves as a wake-up call and letting them see where they stand so they can work on
improving their performance if needed. In Oman, statistics show a growing problem with students failing
to graduate on time and more students dropping out of college every year. These issues hurt the
country’s goals for higher education, which is why everyone involved students, teachers, parents, and
school administrators needs to take these numbers seriously. The goal of the study is to figure out what
factors have the biggest impact on a student’s academic success. The researchers used a method called
a systematic literature review, which means they looked at many different studies and research papers
to find common factors that affect performance. Based on the research, they discovered several
important factors that influence how students perform in school. These include, Low grades when
entering college, Support from family, Where a student lives (like living on campus or commuting),
Gender, Grades from past tests and quizzes, Internal assessments, such as participation or project
scores, GPA (Grade Point Average), How active students are in online learning.

SUMMARIZATION OF THE STUDY: Most of what students learn is acquired in school. However, some
pupils encounter learning difficulties which are not properly addressed by the teachers. This study aims
to identify and examine the factors affecting the academic performance of ten (10) Grade Five pupils in
Leyte Normal University-Integrated Laboratory School. The study used qualitative single-case study
design, and participants were selected through purposive sampling. The top five (5) pupils in the high
performing group and five (5) pupils in the low performing group were selected in that process. Data
was collected using semi-structured interviews and direct observation of the participants. As a result, six
major themes were derived from the findings after data analysis was conducted, namely: Self-Driven
Activities in Learning, Challenges in Learning, Styles in Learning, References used in Learning, Scaffolds in
Learning and Coping Mechanisms in Learning. This study could provide ways and awareness to all
stakeholders in education on how to improve pupils' academic performance in school.

OWN EXPLANATION: Based on this study, factors are outside their control. For example, classrooms
need to be quiet and free from distractions. Too much noise makes it hard for students to concentrate
and understand what the teacher is saying. Noise is a big problem that affects students' performance, so
it’s important to reduce it. When students can listen better, they can also think more clearly and
participate actively in discussions and classwork. Besides noise, classmates and parents also have a
strong influence on how well students do in school. Classmates can be helpful by explaining lessons and
encouraging each other. Parents can give emotional support and motivation, which helps students stay
focused. However, if classmates and parents don’t provide enough help or support, students might lose
interest or perform poorly. A healthy environment at home and school is essential so students can fully
pay attention to learning. Schneider (2002) explained that a good learning environment is quiet,
comfortable, and safe. Students spend many hours in school learning and joining activities, so having a
positive atmosphere makes a big difference. Research by Cooper (1989) and Walberg et al. (1985), as
cited in Clark (1993), pointed out that good study habits at home also boost learning. Activities done at
home, like reviewing lessons and practicing, help students remember what they learned. One student
shared, "Our teacher talks fast and gives us hard activities, that’s why I easily get upset." This shows how
teaching style can affect students’ motivation and understanding. Goos (1999) explained that when
students get help from parents, teachers, and friends, they feel more confident and learn better. At
LNU-ILS, students shared that their parents, classmates, and teachers were their main sources of help. In
summary, students face many factors that can affect their academic performance, such as noise,
teaching styles, classmate behavior, and the level of support from family and friends. Understanding
these influences can help create better learning environments and improve students' success in school.
