and with what, why, and how of your choice. Describe the gift and the happiness you
and your father/mother felt. The description must not cross the 100-word limit. [4]

I chose a handcrafted leather journal for my father’s birthday. Its supple, rich brown

cream pages await his thoughts, capturing his reflections as ink dances upon them. I
selected this gift because it resonates with his love for writing and encapsulates his

Subject Apathy towards Local Cleanliness

Sir/Ma’am

Through the columns of your esteemed newspaper, I would like to draw the attention
of the civic authorities and the general public towards the unhygienic conditions
prevailing in our city.

We have already experienced an outbreak of Dengue and Chikungunya in the city.

Still, the lesson has j not been learned. There is total apathy towards cleanliness.
People throw garbage anywhere they see fit. This garbage can be found lying on the
roads for days together. Nobody comes to clean it. The drains also have not been
cleaned for long and dirty smelling water along with garbage can be seen flowing in
it. There are no dustbins to keep the garbage covered, giving rise to mosquito
breeding and as a result, mosquito-borne diseases.

I request the concerned authorities to take immediate steps to launch a cleanliness

drive to remove all the garbage on the roads. The drains should be regularly
cleaned. The residents should also get involved in this drive so that we can keep our
city clean and not invite outbreaks of any disease.

Thanking you
Yours truly

and how it might impact society.
Use the given clues, along with your ideas.
– Industry offers both opportunities and challenges to society.
– Responsible tourism required
– Tourism can bridge cultural gaps
Answer:
(a) Unlocking the World: The Importance of Travelling — by Aakash X-C
In a world teeming with technological wonders and vast information at our fingertips,
there’s a timeless truth that prevails: “Books give you knowledge, traveling –
experience.” As Aakash of Class X-C, I’ve embarked on journeys that have instilled
in me the immense importance of exploring beyond the confines of my comfort zone.
Books indeed are windows to knowledge, yet the true magic lies in experiencing the
world first-hand. During a recent trip to the serene mountains, I learned about
diverse cultures, tasted local cuisines, and conversed with people whose
perspectives enriched my own. Such experiences are imprinted deep within,
sparking personal growth beyond what any textbook could offer.
Moreover, traveling nurtures adaptability, empathy, and open-mindedness. When I
ventured to bustling city markets or serene village communities, I learned to navigate
unfamiliar terrains and appreciate different ways of life. These encounters imparted a
deeper understanding of the world’s intricacies, fostering compassion for people
from all walks of life.
While books are invaluable sources of knowledge, traveling breathes life into that
knowledge, making it tangible and unforgettable. So, fellow students, let us embrace
the world as our classroom. Let’s journey beyond pages and screens to gain
experiences that will mold us into not only knowledgeable individuals but also global
citizens ready to shape a brighter future.

(b) ‘The Two Sides of the Tourism Industry’ – by Jasmeet Kaur X D

The tourism industry is a double-edged sword, offering both opportunities and
challenges to society. Tourism creates job opportunities, stimulates economic
growth, and promotes cultural exchange. It allows locals to showcase their heritage,
culinary delights, and traditions, fostering a sense of pride and preserving cultural
diversity. Mass tourism can strain resources, damage ecosystems, and lead to over-
commercialization. It often pushes up the cost of living for residents in popular
destinations, making it unaffordable for locals. Responsible tourism emphasizes
sustainable practices and respect for local cultures. It’s crucial to be mindful of the
impact our travels have on the environment and communities we visit.
Tourism can bridge cultural gaps, increase global awareness, and promote peace.
On the flip side, it can lead to cultural homogenization and create a dependency on
tourism income.
In conclusion, the tourism industry offers immense potential, but it’s our responsibility
to ensure it benefits all stakeholders, respects nature and preserves the essence of
the places we visit. It’s time to embrace ethical and sustainable tourism for a brighter
future.

Question 4.
As your school celebrated Van Mahotsav recently, write a factual description of the
event describing it in 100 words. Describe what plant you chose and why, along with
the importance of the same for our environment. [4]
Answer:
Our recent Van Mahotsav celebration was a truly memorable event that brought our
school community together. Each participant enthusiastically planted a sampling of
the neem tree, a choice made for its remarkable environmental benefits and
multifaceted importance. Neem, scientifically known as Azadirachta indica, holds a
special place in traditional medicine for its medicinal properties, making it a symbol
of health and wellness.
The event began with enlightening talks on neem’s significance in Ayurveda and its
potential to combat air pollution. Neem trees act as natural air purifiers, releasing
oxygen and absorbing carbon dioxide. Its hardiness and adaptability to our region’s
climate make it an ideal choice for our school’s green initiative. Neem’s leaves,
twigs, and extracts are used for various health remedies, reflecting its deep-rooted
connection with holistic well-being.
By planting neem saplings, our students not only contributed to a greener
environment but also learned the value of sustainable practices. This event
highlighted the power of collective efforts in creating a positive impact on our
surroundings. As these neem trees grow, they will play a crucial role in improving air
quality, fostering a healthier ecosystem, and instilling a sense of environmental
responsibility among our students.

Subject Need to Develop the Spirit of Unity

Sir/Ma’am

Through the columns of your esteemed newspaper, I would like to draw the attention
of the general public towards the need to develop the spirit of unity.
In India, or any nation for that matter national integration alone can be the foundation
of a strong, united, and prosperous India, especially when terror acts are increasing
day by day. Hence, it is said that ‘United we stand, divided we fall. However,
communal clashes and, social and economic inequalities put a
challenge to the national harmony of India. Time and again we have witnessed a rise
in social tensions between different communities present in the nation such tensions
make our nation vulnerable to foreign attacks that can wreak havoc on it. Hence, we
all need to understand that we all need to be united to gain respect from all other
nations in the world.

Adequate measures should be taken to remove the social and economic inequalities
to ensure unity among various sections of society. The various social issues such as
the caste system, child labour, dowry system etc. should be eradicated from our
society as soon as possible to further promote national integration.

People need to accept that there is a need for unity in India. They should not be
committed to a particular religion but to the nation as a whole.

Subject Control Net Surfing at School

Sir/Ma’am
Through the columns of your esteemed newspaper, I would like to direct the
attention of the concerned authorities towards the students who are wasting away
their precious time on the internet merely for ‘ entertainment. Our public schools
have modernized their libraries to provide internet surfing facilities to senior students
so that they can complete their assignments and also gain the knowledge necessary
to be well-informed and do well in their exams.

However, the schools have not introduced much control on net surfing by students,
resulting in the students wasting their time entertaining themselves by playing
interactive games available on various sites or watching videos and other prohibited
material. This leads to poor performance in the exams, thus affecting the overall
reputation of the school concerned.

In this regard, schools must ensure that they install suitable software that will block
content like interactive games and other sites that are prohibited schools, in
collaboration with parents, should make the students aware of the many negative
effects of uncontrolled and improper net surfing. Unless this is done effectively, the
whole purpose of providing the net facility will be defeated. So, the schools should
control students’ net surfing at school and enable them to use the Internet fruitfully.

Answer:
(a) Vocational Training as Part of the School Curriculum -By Ashok XD
Vocational education refers to a system or course of study which prepares
individuals for jobs that are based on manual or practical activities. Education is the
fundamental right of every Indian citizen. It is an important prerequisite for the
progress of an individual and the nation. In India, education is provided by both the
Government and private sectors. Other than primary and secondary education,
vocational education is also catching up fast with today’s generation.
Essential steps for Vocational training can be:
– Vocational training to be essential part of curriculum.
– Knowledge of professional courses to the students through career counselling
programmes and experts.
– Aptitude tests to choose a professional course
– Practical training – to work in the work shops or institutes.
– Stipends /scholarships to the students on meritorious students
– Selection through campus interviews
– Job opportunities/self-employment
– easy loan by the government
“Educate a woman, and you educate the whole family.”
Regarding women’s education, it can be said that education or providing practical
training to women can go a long way in making them independent. Vocational
education will not only provide jobs but give many a reason to live a worthy and
independent life.

(b) Embracing Educational Diversity: A Call for Reform -Dakshita XA

As a student in X grade, I advocate for a transformative shift in our education
system. The prevailing obsession with science and mathematics as exclusive
pursuits not only stifles creativity but also disregards the diverse talents and
passions of students.
A holistic education framework should encompass arts, humanities, and vocational
subjects. This would foster well-rounded individuals capable of critical thinking and
innovation. Additionally, the intense pressure to conform to a limited academic
spectrum contributes to rising stress levels and mental health concerns among
students.
The solution lies in personalized learning, acknowledging that each student is
unique. Such an approach would encourage the exploration of individual interests
and aptitudes, nurturing a genuine love for learning.
In conclusion, by broadening our educational outlook, we can empower students to
excel in various domains while preserving their mental and emotional well-being. It’s
time to break free from the confines of convention and embrace a truly inclusive and
progressive learning experience.

Subject Electric Vehicles – Promise for the Future

Sir/Ma’am

Through the columns of your esteemed newspaper, I want to highlight the fact that
the need to reduce air pollution along with the availability of new advanced batteries
has allowed Electric Vehicles (EVs) to appear as a clean alternative to internal
combustion vehicles. Electric drive systems are virtually non-polluting and extremely
energy efficient. While internal combustion vehicles can convert about 20% of the
chemical energy in gasoline into useful work, 75% or more of the energy from a
battery has productive power in an electric vehicle.

Numerous vehicles including three-wheelers, cars, and scooters on the road

contribute to heavy air and noise pollution. The use of electric vehicles can also help
us in saving foreign exchange worth crores and will also substantially reduce
healthcare costs.

Therefore, people should try to use electricity-run vehicles which are energy efficient
and environment friendly.

Answer:
(a) Title: Embracing Failure: A Stepping Stone to Personal Growth -by Shikha,
English Teacher
As we journey through life, the path to success is often paved with stumbling blocks
and setbacks. It’s essential for us, as learners, to recognise that these obstacles are
not roadblocks but rather stepping stones to personal growth. Failure, though
daunting, holds a profound lesson in resilience and self-improvement.
When we fear failure, we limit ourselves, often avoiding risks that might lead to great
accomplishments. Mistakes, however, provide invaluable learning opportunities.
Each stumble offers insights that pave the way for progress and innovation. Just as a
caterpillar transforms into a butterfly through a process of struggle, we too transform
and develop by confronting our shortcomings.
Embracing failure fosters resilience and determination. It teaches us that setbacks
are temporary, while the lessons learned endure. When we persevere through
failures, we build character, courage, and a mindset that welcomes challenges with
open arms.
So, dear students, let’s change our perspective on failure. It’s not a mark of defeat
but rather a badge of courage. Embracing mistakes empowers us to dream big, to
learn, and to grow. Let’s not be afraid to stumble; let’s be proud of the lessons we
glean from them. Remember, success is not about avoiding failure but about rising
stronger every time we fall.

(b) Earth Day Celebrations -By Akshika

Earth Day, celebrated on April 22nd, is not merely a date on the calendar; it is a
reminder of our duty to protect the planet we call home. At Brightland Public School,
we believe that Earth Day should be celebrated everywhere because environmental
issues affect us all, transcending borders and boundaries. In recent years, we’ve
witnessed disasters like wildfires, floods, and hurricanes that have devastated our
planet. These events are stark reminders of the consequences of our unsustainable
actions.
To promote Earth Day, our school initiated various eco-friendly campaigns. We
organized tree-planting drives, encouraging students to become stewards of nature.
We also conducted awareness sessions on reducing plastic usage, emphasizing the
importance of recycling.
Participating in these campaigns had a profound impact on me. I realized that small
actions can create a big change. Earth Day isn’t just about one day of action; it’s
about instilling a lifelong commitment to protect our environment.
As we celebrate Earth Day, let’s remember that the preservation of our planet is
everyone’s responsibility, and together, we can make a significant difference.

Explain the structure and purpose of a historical artifact that you saw in a picture the

The historical artifact I recently came across in a picture online was an ancient
Egyptian sarcophagus. This stone coffin’s structure was a meticulously carved and
ornate rectangular box, often adorned with intricate hieroglyphics and elaborate
artwork. Its purpose was to serve as the final resting place for a deceased individual,
typically a person of high social or religious significance. Inside, the mummy of the
deceased would be carefully placed, preserving the body for the afterlife according to
Egyptian beliefs. Sarcophagi like these offer invaluable insights into the art, culture,

Subject Need to Tap Sports Talent at a Young Age Sir/Ma’am

Through the columns of your esteemed newspaper I would like to highlight the need
to tap the sports talent at a young age by sports teachers, coaches etc. so, that it
does not go unrecognised. We tend to give academics priority at the expense of
sports and other activities. I think we should give equal importance to studies and
sports. A lot of juniors and subjuniors do well at the national level but they do not
continue because there is lack of attention and guidance regarding their future in
sports.

There is a lot of talent in our country. The only thing required is to bring it forward
and encourage it. There are many examples before us like that of PV Sindhu, Virat
Kohli, Sania Nehwal, Geeta Phogat and many others who had started their rigorous
training at a very young age. The result is undeniably remarkable. Yet these
achievements are not enough for a country of our size and population.

Therefore, it is greatly required that we should nurture sports talent from a very
young age. At school, district, and state levels, sports talent must be spotted,
encouraged and given proper coaching. In some cases, financial help and hostel

Answer:
(a) Inclusive Education: Not an alternative but an inevitability -By Akash
Inclusive education is not merely an alternative; it is an absolute inevitability in our
ever-evolving society.
It encompasses the principle that every student, regardless of their abilities or
disabilities, has the right to receive an education that suits their needs. Several
factors play a pivotal role in making inclusive education an imperative rather than a
choice.
Firstly, attitudes are crucial. The attitudes of parents, teachers, classmates, and
society at large must be inclusive and empathetic. Acceptance and support can
transform educational environments into nurturing spaces for all students.
Secondly, physical and infrastructural support is essential to ensure accessibility for
students with disabilities. Without suitable facilities, the inclusivity we aspire to
achieve remains a distant dream.
Curriculum support and teacher training are equally important. An inclusive
curriculum and well-prepared teachers are prerequisites for accommodating diverse
learning styles. Moreover, policy support is crucial to ensure that inclusive education
is not just an ideal but a practical reality. Policies must promote inclusivity, not hinder
it.
In conclusion, inclusive education is not an option; it is a necessity that fosters
diversity, equality, and a more compassionate society. It is a path we must all tread
to ensure that no child is left behind.

(b) Title: The Impact of Sports on Children’s Cognitive Development -by Ryan
Mishra, Sports Coach
Engaging in sports activities goes beyond physical fitness; it significantly influences
the cognitive development of children. The research underscores the profound
positive effects sports have on young minds.
Participating in sports enhances concentration, memory, and problem-solving
abilities. The complex strategies and split-second decisions required in games
stimulate cognitive functions. Furthermore, sports encourage goal-setting, discipline,
and time management, fostering skills crucial for academic success.
Physical activities promote the release of endorphins, which improve mood and
reduce stress. Reduced stress levels positively impact cognitive processes, including
information retention and analytical thinking.
Team sports nurture social skills, empathy, and communication, promoting emotional
intelligence. Interaction with peers and coaches aids in adapting to varying social
situations.
In conclusion, sports play a pivotal role in shaping children’s cognitive development.
The amalgamation of physical activity, strategic thinking, and teamwork builds well-
rounded individuals who excel not only in the field but also in classrooms and life.

Answer:
(a) Article Celebrating Diversity, but Working for Unity -by Sasha
In today’s world, diversity is more than just a buzzword; it’s a reality that surrounds
us. Our school is a microcosm of this diverse world, where students from various
backgrounds, cultures, and beliefs come together. While celebrating diversity is
essential, it’s equally crucial to work towards unity. Diversity enriches our learning
experience, exposes us to different perspectives, and fosters tolerance. It
encourages us to embrace our unique identities and celebrate the beauty of our
differences. However, it can also lead to divisions if not managed correctly.
Unity, on the other hand, is the glue that holds our diverse community together. It’s
about finding common ground, respecting one another, and working towards shared
goals. Unity doesn’t mean we should abandon our unique identities; instead, it
emphasises that we are stronger together.
To achieve unity while celebrating diversity, we must actively engage in open
dialogue, promote empathy, and stand against discrimination.
Let’s recognise that our differences are our strength, but unity is our foundation.
Together, we can create a harmonious and inclusive school environment where
every student feels valued and cherished.

Subject Wastage of Food in the Big Fat Indian Weddings

Sir/Ma’am

Through the columns of your esteemed newspaper, I would like to draw the attention
of the common masses to the waste of food that happens in Indian weddings. It is
not unknown to us that weddings in India have become more extravagant in recent
years. It is strange how Indians spend their life’s j savings on their weddings. One of
the main features of the lavish wedding is the various types of food one can find
there. Today, no wedding is complete without different cuisines offered to the guests.

It is quite shocking that on the one hand, India is a host to one of the biggest armies
of starving people in the world, on the other, we witness a large-scale wastage of
food.

Such wastage can be monitored if the size of the servings is limited. Moreover, the
host should be responsible for giving the caterers, the exact number of the expected
guest list. Moreover, the guests should confirm their presence so that the food is
prepared accordingly and there is no wastage. Further, the leftover food can be
distributed to the poor to avoid the wastage.

I hope my letter will awaken the people and they will try to minimize the wastage in
future.

consequences of indulging in it can be more devastating than we might think.

(b) “Blooming Connections: The Vital Role of Community Gardens in Urban Areas” -
By Rohini
In the bustling heart of urban landscapes, community gardens have emerged as
sanctuaries of green tranquillity, where the essence of sustainability and human
connection thrive. Bhopal, like many cities, has witnessed the resurgence of
community gardens, and their importance cannot be overstated.
Firstly, community gardens empower urban residents to reconnect with nature.
Amidst the concrete jungles, these pockets of green serve as havens, offering a
respite from the daily grind. Tending to plants, nurturing seedlings, and watching
them flourish provide a profound sense of serenity and reconnection with the earth.
Secondly, these gardens offer a solution to food security issues. Residents can grow
their organic produce, reducing their reliance on mass-produced, often less nutritious
options. This not only promotes healthier lifestyles but also fosters a sense of self-
reliance and empowerment.
Moreover, community gardens are catalysts for building relationships. They bring
together diverse individuals who share a common love for gardening.
Neighbors become friends as they swap gardening tips and share their harvests,
fostering a close-knit, supportive community.
In conclusion, community gardens in urban areas like Bhopal are much more than
plots of land; they are green lungs, food providers, and hubs of connection. They
remind us that amidst the urban rush, nature, and meaningful relationships can thrive
if we nurture them
