1. Introduction

1.1.Introduction

Sun System & Consultants is planning to expand its operations by opening a new
development and support center in Melbourne. The new center will consist of two two-story
buildings, Harper and Cacis. The center will start with 50 developers, 10 technical support
staff, 6 testing and R&D team members, 10 business analysts, another 10 in sales and
marketing, and 7 administration staff. The center's staff will soon more than double due to
new hires and employee transfers from Perth.
Our team has been tasked with developing a suitable network design for this new
project. Our primary goal is to identify the requirements and conduct research in order to
propose a suitable topology diagram that meets the network's needs. Our suggestion

1.2.Objectives
1. to ensure that all network devices are uniquely identified and can communicate with
one another.
2. to design and configure a suitable local area network using a simulation tool for Sun
System & Consultants' new development and support center in Melbourne.

2.Scope of project
1. Plan and design a local area network for the new development and support center of Sun
System & Consultants.
2. Connect two buildings (Harper and Cacis) with a minimum bandwidth of 100 Mbps.
3. Justify the topology and IP addressing scheme for the network.
4. To demonstrate the proposed network design, create a Cisco packet tracer diagram.

2
1.3.Limitations
1.The number of hosts and employees provided in the scenario may not be representative
of the company's real needs or growth projections.

1.5. Assumptions
1.There are two buildings, Harper and Cacis, with two floors in each. Each building has
an equal number of floors.
2.The first floor of both buildings has a reception area, waiting room, coffee shop, gym,
and restrooms.
3. The second floor of building Harper contains the Director's room, Administration
department, Finance department, CTO room, Security, and Sales & Marketing
departments.
4. There are a total of 50 development members, 10 technical support staff, 6 testing and
R&D team members, 10 business analysts, 10 sales and marketing staff, and 7
administrative staff, of which one is initially a manager.
5. Both buildings have the necessary IoT infrastructure such as CCTV, television, and
biometrics.
6. Network bandwidth must be at least 100 Mbps.

2. Justification
2.1. Topology
Network topology is the way in which nodes are connected together in a network. This
can be represented as a graph.

Different organizations have different network topologies, but most networks follow
well-known models. Networks have a network topology, which tells you how devices are
connected and how data is transmitted from one place to another.

A logical network topology is a way of thinking about how devices work at a higher level
of abstraction. A physical topology, which is how devices are physically connected, is

3
also a way of thinking about how things work. These two types of diagrams can both be
represented using visual representations.

A network topology map helps administrators understand the physical layout of a

network, which can be useful for troubleshooting problems. (network topology, 2023)

2.2. IP Addressing
An IP address is a numerical address assigned to devices on the Internet or local network.
They allow different devices on the network to recognize and communicate with each
other. Computers and other devices use IP addresses just as we use phone numbers to
communicate with each other. Every network device needs an IP address to send and
receive traffic. Every phone, computer, laptop, tablet, and any other device requires it.
That is why they are so important. IP addresses are usually a sequence of numbers
divided into four triples, such as 172.217.1 .206. This is Google's IP address. We say
"usually rows of numbers" because the address changes. The full range of IP addresses is
from 0.0.0.0 to 255.255.255.255. It ends with 255 because that is the maximum number
of octets so 32-bit addressing works. (IP Addressing, 2023)

Types of IP Addresses

 Dynamic IP Addresses
A dynamic IP address is an IP address that can change frequently. Dynamic IP
addresses are provided by your ISP or router. ISPs buy IP addresses in bulk and
automatically assign them to customers. Because ISPs typically have thousands of
customers connecting and disconnecting all the time, they create pools of IP
addresses. All IP addresses belonging to the ISP are put into a pool and requested
by the client's router periodically or after a reboot. Your ISP router assigns a
dynamic IP address and maps it so that your router can connect to the Internet.
The address is then periodically updated according to the time specified by the
internet provider. The idea is to ensure that all IP addresses belonging to the ISP
are used and that no client is left disconnected.

 Static IP Addresses
A static IP address is an IP address that remains the same or static. ISPs or
your router can set them. Once configured, your router will maintain a static IP address for as
long as you are a customer. Static IP addresses are necessary if you are running your own web
server instead of a hosting company. In this case, a static IP address prevents DNS confusion.
(Types of IP Address, 2023)

IP Address Versions

7
IPv4
IPv4 stands for Internet Protocol Version 4 . It is the most popular type of IP address
today and has been used since the beginning. IPv4 address is given in decimal point
format. This means that the address is a part separated by dots. 172.217.1 .206 is as an
example above is an IPv4 address. IPv4 uses a 32-bit address space. That means there can
be only 232 unique addresses.

IPv6
It stands for Internet Protocol version 6. In IPv6, we use a 128-bit address space, which
means we can have 2128 (about 3. 03 × 1038) IP addresses. That's 3 0 trillion IP
addresses. Unlike numeric numbers in IPv4 , in IPv6 we use alphanumeric numbers, both
letters and numbers, separated by colons instead of periods. A good example is Google's
IPv6 address - 2607:f8b0: 003:c00::6a. The new alphanumeric system will allow many
times more IP addresses soon. (types-of-ip-addresses., 2023)

Floor Planning and Justification

First floor of Harper. Diksha Rai(NP069456)

Justification for floor planning

Floor plan is meant to offer visual representation of the arrangement of building, space or level.
The welcome space is situated close to the building's entrance and is intended to leave a lasting
impression on guests. The coffee shop, which is situated next to the reception area on the first
level, was created to provide visitors a selection of refreshments.
The waiting area is situated in the center of the structure, as can be seen in the floor plan design.
The waiting area is intended to offer visitors a comfortable and tranquil place to wait for
appointments or meetings. Last but not least, the coffee shop and reception area are apart from
the restrooms and gym, which are at the opposite end of the facility.
The gym space is furnished with a yoga mat, a table, dumbbells, internet, and other weight-
training tools. The private space intended for personal hygiene is the restroom. It is situated on
the building's corner.
