Preparation and Setup
Create lecture slides to fit your textbook and style or use the slides from the textbook
publisher. Prepare to discuss the following topics from the textbook:
o Practice necessary HV safety routines as outlined in service information
o Describe the HV Components of the PHEV
o Identify the various operating characteristics found on the PHEV
o Describe the operation of a EVSE
o Describe the benefits of implementing PHEVs
o Identify the disadvantages of a PHEV
o Identify the infrastructure required for a PHEV
Review the online links and determine where they can be used during your lesson. Provide
the students with a copy of these links.
o On line media clips to show during lecture portion:
o BEV/HEV and PHEV review: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zL6leS-Eugw
o Intro to CHEV Volt: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=80E1fOp95rA

Be prepared to ask and address these questions during in-class discussions or lectures.
Remember to modify as necessary for your local college.
o What is the difference between a PHEV and a HEV?
o Will PHEVs resolve the green house gas dilemma?
o In what types of daily driving is the PHEV beneficial to the consumer?
o What does EVSE mean? Answer: Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment.
o Describe the role of the PHEV charging unit?
o Can the Charging unit work on a BEV and a PHEV?
