wrenches, ring spanners, screw drivers, Allen keys etc.,
• Chop saw machine
• Measuring Tapes
• Insulation Tester (Megger)
• Multi Meter
• Detector Test kit

6. Methodology
6.1 Preparatory work for installation work
• Check for validity of the shop drawings.
• Check for approval from the Client / Main Contractor.
• Check for availability of approved materials in stores.
• Check for availability of adequate trained and experienced Human Resources.
• Check for availability of tools and equipment necessary.
• Check for availability of necessary personal protective equipment.
• Check for availability of work permit wherever applicable.
• Check whether the preceding activity has been completed satisfactorily to commence installation.
• Check whether the work area is free of obstructions that could disrupt the planned performance.
• Check whether the setting out has been approved by the client / Main Contractor.

6.2 Installation of Conduits & Cables

• Check whether the conduits (PVC and GI for Exposed areas) are of the approved quality and
diameters.
PVC Conduit Installation Procedure

 Ensure that the civil people have finished ply/post tension work on the slab.

 Arrange the approved shop drawings for the area of installation.

Document : METHOD STATEMENT Ref. Code : AFS/FD/MS/001

Issue : 01 Date : 2022-12-23 Revision : 01 Date : 01-03-2023

 Mark first the wall location for lower floor in slab as per latest Architecture layout so
that it will be easy to locate the drops for MCP, INTERCOM (IF) and any other drops
required for detection system.

 Mark the detection points on the slab as per approved Fire detection Layout and fix
proper shape and size of the Circular Box with the help of nail/mess in case of
plywood slab and provide steel bar chairs for fixing the box in case of post tension
slab.

 Just after completing the first layer of steel, start pvc conducting work with different
sizes (If) of conduit based on detection system requirements and as per drawings.

 Try to avoid the overlapping of conduits and keep some distance between the conduits
for low current and power/Lights.

 Just after completing the work tight the conduits with binding wire and mark the
circuit (Loop, Power, and intercom) numbers.

 The site Engineer/Foreman should check the proper size of conduit and circular box,
opening size (if), be sure the work is completed as per approved detection shop
drawing.

 Before the concrete pouring the PVC conduit installation to be inspected and approved
by consultant/client/contractor

 During concrete pouring, keep electricians for taking care of conduit to avoid any
damage by others or dislocation of joints.

Embedded Conduit on Walls

 Mark the position of boxes & conduits on the walls according to the approved
drawings.

 Chase the wall using appropriate tools. i.e., Hammer drill & chisel….

 Fix the back boxes on their final position. Make sure that the boxes are properly
protected with polystyrene to prevent entry of foreign materials.

 Install embedded conduits.

 After the works has been inspected, plastering of walls will commence.

• Check and ensure that the GI conduits are free of impurities, obstructions and defects, inside and
outside (ie surfaces, ends, profiles etc.,)
• Check from records and ensure that the external surface of the GI conduits are applied with protective
coatings, if applicable. Note- No any protective application.( Coating,….,etc)
• Mark the conduit route as per the approved shop drawings.
• Mark the positions of saddle clips as approved for GI conduits.
• Drill for wall plugs and fix the approved saddle clips with approved screws
• Assemble the GI conduits with appropriate sockets and junction boxes.
• Embed or bury the PVC conduits as approved, inclusive of appropriate specials and junction
boxes which shall be connected using solvent cements of approved quality.
• Draw the cables of approved quality and size through the conduits using suitable draw wire for the
Detectors, Call Points, Alarm Sounders and Modular.
• Ensure that the number of cables drawn through a conduit does not exceed the maximum permitted.
• Lay the cables on the trays and ladders and fix them using correct type and size of approved cable
ties.-*special areas will be applied-If & Can lay the cable through the ELV tray or any...( Fire Resistant
cable will be laid separately ),If access is not there

6.3 Testing of the Cables

• Test each cable for insulation under the 250V supply for insulation resistivity using a calibrated
insulation tester (Megger).
• Test each cable for continuity using a Buzzer/Multi-meter in good working order.
• Ensure that all cables that fail one or both of the above two tests are replaced promptly.

• Check and ensure that the Smoke and Heat Detectors, Manual Call Points, Alarm S o u n d e r ,
Control Panel ( W a l l m o u n t e d ) and Modular comply with the approved quality standards.
• Check and ensure that the locations are correct as per the approved shop drawings.
• Install the appropriate Detectors, Call Points, Alarm Sounders, Fire Alarm Control Panel( Wall
mounted), Modular etc., as recommended by the manufacturers with proper termination methods
and proper connectors in accordance with the layout and shop drawings.
Note- All smoke detector, MCP, Sounder cover will be kept until finish the site cleaning.
• Ensure that the brackets used are in accordance with the approved shop drawings and the
recommendations of the manufacturers.
• Ensure that the installation is carried out with qualified and experienced technicians.
