1.0 OBJECTIVE

This method statement is to describes the method of which the installation of Fire Protection and Fire detection
Services Installation is carried out for this project.

2.0 SCOPES

This procedure applies to project site, which requires Fire Protection Services Installation Work, which is carried
out by the company.

3.0 MATERIAL HANDLING AND STORAGE


3.1 PRE- DELIVERY AND STORAGE PREPARATION.

1) Prepare delivery schedule and check site conditions as well as storage Capacity.
2) Prior to delivery of Material to site, a site survey and make all necessary co-ordination with the main
contractor as regards to access for the save transportation of the said material.
3) Co-ordinate with site workers responsible for the system installation.

3.2. INCOMING STORAGE AT SITE.

1) Check model and type of material against delivery order.


2) Check any damage during transportation.
3) If there is any evidence of damage, an internal inspection shall be made together with suppliers
Representative and the Consultant. A report shall be submitted to the Consultant on completion of such
Inspection.
4) Route identification and marking work shall not be started until coordinates with other
Mechanical and Electrical Services. Minor deviation from the approved construction drawing
and M&E drawing Would be determined on site with the consent of consultant site staff.

4.0 SYSTEM INSTALATION


4.1 GALVANIZED PIPING

4.1.1 DROP IN ANCHOR INSTALLATION

1) Marking
Identify the actual location of the hanger based on the approved shop drawing. Mark the position
for installing the drop-in anchor.

2) Confirm Hole of Depth


Check the hanger size to confirm the depth of the hole to be drilled based on approved shop drawings and
manufacturer's specification.

3) Drill Hole
Check the hanger size to select the right drill bit. Then drill the Hole according to
the manufacturer's specification on the marked position.

4) Cleaning
Clean the drilled hole to ensure it is free of dust.

5) Insert drop in Anchor


Insert the drop-in anchor into the hole.

6) Hammering
Hammering down the conical plug inside the anchor with setting punch.

7) Install Hanger Rod


Install the hanger rod into the drop-in anchor.

4.1.2 PIPE HANGER INSTALLATION

1) Confirm Location
Identify the actual location of the hanger based on the approved shop drawing. Mark the position
for installing the drop-in anchor.

2) Install Drop in Anchor


Install drop in anchor. (Please refer to Method Statement for Drop in Anchor Installation).

3) Install Pipe
Install the pipe either by screw fitting or welding.

4) Install Hanger Rod


Select the hanger based on the pipe size. Install the hanger rod to the drop-in anchor.

5) Install Hanger
Install the hanger to the pipe and the hanger rod. Refer to figure 3.

6) Tightening
Tighten the bolts and nut that hold the hanger rod and hanger evenly

4.1.3 FLANGE FITTING INSTALLATION

Flange type use for 75mm Diameter fittings

1) Select Flange
Check the flange size and specification according to pump size and valve size.

2) Fabricate Pipe
Cut the pipe to the required length.

3) Jointing
Jointing the flange to either valve or pump

4.1.4 SCREW FITTING INSTALLATION

Screw type use for 50mm, 32mm and 25 mm diameter fittings

1) Check Pipe Length


Check the pipe length required based on the approved shop drawing.

2) Marking & Cutting


Mark the desired length on the pipe and cut it by using a hacksaw. Make sure the pipe is Perpendicular to
the hacksaw cut.

3) Threading
Place the pipe in the threading machine and thread it accordingly. Make sure the thread of the Pipe is in
good condition.

4) Wrap Teflon Tape


Remove the oil from the pipe end after the threading procedure and wrap it with Teflon tape.

5) Installation
Install the pipe to the screw fitting.

4.1.5 VALVE WITH FLANGE END CONNECTION INSTALLATION

Flange type use for 75mm Diameter Valve.

1) Select Valve
Confirm the valve size and location based on the shop drawings. Ensure that the selected valve is
flange type.

2) Positioning
Place the valve between the pipe flanges. Make sure the flange and adjacent pipe work are clean of
dirt.

3) Select Gasket
Select the gasket size according to the valve size and associated pipe size based on approved shop
drawings so that it can match the pipe work flange.

4) Connecting
Connect the valve with the pipe flange. The pipe flange shall be square with the associated Pipe line.

5) Tightening
When the valve is in proper position, install the bolts into the holes. Tightening the nuts one by one evenly.
Repeat the above steps for the other joint.

4.1.6 VALVE WITH SCREW CONNECTION INSTALLATION

Screw type use for 50mm, 32mm and 25 mm diameter Valve


1) Select Valve
Confirm the valve size and location based on the shop drawings. Ensure that the selected valve is
screw type.

2) Fabricate Pipe
Cut the pipe to the required length and thread it accordingly.

3) Positioning
Place the valve between the pipe and make sure the threads are free of dust.

4) Jointing
Guide one of the pipes ends onto the valve's thread, slowly run pipe in clock-wise direction

5) Tightening
Hold the valve firmly by a spanner on the flat nearest joint and then rotate the pipe with a plumbing
wrench. Rotate the pipe until the end of the spindle operating joint. Repeat the above steps for the other
pipe.

4.1.7 FIRE PROTECTION RISER PIPE INSTALLATION

1) Check Location of Riser

• Confirm the location of riser based on approved shop drawings.


• Check whether any opening through slabs (either box-up or pipe sleeves) is provided.
• Check the size of the opening. If the opening size is not sufficient or opening is not provided, request
permission for coring from the Main Contractor.
• Core opening once approval is obtained.

2) Fabrication of Pipe
• Fabricate pipe

3) Hoisting of Pipe
• Book the Materials Hoist for hoisting the pipes to the designated floors.
• Position the pipes at the area allocated by the Main Contractor

1) Install Riser Pipe


• Confirm the location of riser based on approved / coordinated shop drawings.
• Lower down the pipe off any unwanted materials and rubbish from the riser shaft.
• If box opening is provided, slip a piece of pipe sleeve onto the pipe.
• Coupled the pipe with previously installed pipe with a flexible coupling.
• Pull upwards the newly installed pipe using the chain block. This is to allow pipe movement during
the building shrinkage.
• Align the pipe vertically with spirit level.

6) Install Riser Pipe Bracket


• Once the pipe has been aligned, install the pipe bracket to support the riser pipe.
• If box opening is provided, install temporary bracket to the pipe.
• Cast the opening and ensure the pipe sleeves are installed prior to casting.
• Once the concrete has cured, dismantled the temporary bracket and replace it with a permanent
bracket.

7) Install Fire Barrier


• Install Rock Wool into the gap between the riser pipe and the pipe sleeve as per contract
requirement. The Rock Wool will act as fire barrier in the case of fire

4.1.8 PRESSURE TESTING

This procedure outlines the necessary actions and safety practices for pressure testing all new piping Area.

4.1.8.1 TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT

• All personnel within test area shall be required to wear eye and hearing Personnel Protection
Equipment (PPE). Hard Hat, safety shoe and dust mask.
• Quick Couplings, Air Compressor, Hydraulic Pressure Portable Pump set and Pressure Gauge.

4.1.8.2 ENSURING SAFETY OF WORK SITE

Pneumatic and hydraulic testing can be dangerous and should be performed with caution and careful
attention to all safety procedures. To ensure the safety of all workers, the following safety precaution
Must be completed prior to conducting the pressure testing

1) Notify system owner or personnel of the area to be avoided due to risks during pressure testing.
2) Ensure that no high-pressure testing occur in the work place.
3) Ensure personnel conducting the test stand behind a barrier during pressurization.4.
4) Mark and barricade the work area.

4.1.8.3 CONDUCTING THE PRESSURE TEST

To conduct a pressure test of new pipelines at Clean Room Level 3-Support A, complete the following
steps

1) Identify the maximum test pressure to be used as determined by the Project Engineer.
2) Identify the steel pipe to be tested
3) When possible, identify the maximum area tested.
4) Examine all connections prior to the test to ensure proper tightness.
5) Determine the pressure rating for all connected fittings and devices to ensure they are rated for the
maximum test pressure.
6) Place a Blind Flange/ Plug or other suitable cover on all openings at pipelines that are not closed off by
valves.
7) Plug all test, drain and vent ports that are not required for the test.
8) If the section of pipe being tested is isolated from other sections by in-line valves, ensure the portion
not being tested is open to the atmosphere.
9) Apply a preliminary test pressure of 25 psi, or as directed by the Project Engineer. NOTE: this pressure
should be held for a minimum of 10 minutes to allow for the location of any major leaks. If leaks are
detected during this step, or at any time during the test, relieve the pressure and consult the Project
Engineer for instruction.
10) Apply the test pressure in increments of 25 psi until the maximum test pressure is reached (200 PSI).

Hold pressure for 5 minutes at each 25-psi increment before adding more pressure.
11) Hold the maximum test pressure for 2 Hours.
12) Obtain confirmation of a successful test by the System Owner/ M+W Personnel after2 hours' time
period.
13) Remove the pressure, with caution to avoid escaping air stream, debris and high decibel noise level.
14) Complete the appropriate forms Pressure/Leak Testing Sheet and recorded the test data and place them
in the appropriate engineering files at specified by the Project Engineer.

4.1.9 GALVANISED PIPE PAINTING

1) Clean the Galvanized Pipe


Clean the galvanized pipe with cotton rag to remove any dust or grease on the pipes.
2) Paint the Pipes with Zinc Chromite
After cleaning, paint the galvanized pipes with 1-layer undercoat of Zinc Chromite Primer.
Please
Ensure both sides (top & bottom) are painted evenly.
3) Wait for Dry
Put the painted pipes in a good ventilation condition for 24 hours for the paint dry.
4) Paint with Finish Coat
After the paint dried, then paint the pipes with 1 layer of finish coat please ensure both sides (top
&bottom) are painted evenly.

5) Install the Pipes


After the finish coat dry, install the pipes.
6) Paint Final Layer
After installation, paint the final layer of paint to the installed pipes. Please ensure both sides are Painted evenly

4.2 HOSE REEL CABINET


Confirm the location by approved drawing and fixing the cabinet using nut and bolt.

4.3 HOSE REEL


Confirm the location by approved drawing and fixing the hose reel with use of manufacture instructions.

4.5 FIRE EXITNGUISHERS

Confirm the location by approved drawing and fixing the extinguishers with use of manufacture instructions.

4.6 CABELING

4.6.1 CONDUIT WORKS

4.6.1.1 PVC CONDUIT

PVC conduit is easily cut using a junior hack saw. Any roughness of cut and burrs should be removed with the
aid of knife blade or simply by wiping with a cloth. There are proprietary tools available
for cutting PVC conduit. Cold bending of PVC conduit may be carried out on conduit sizes up to 25mm diameter
using a bending spring. It is essential to use the correct size bending spring and it should be
noted that springs for heavy gauge conduit are colour coded white and those for light gauge conduit are colour
coded white.

• Ensure that the civil people have finished block wall and clearance is given to proceed for fire
detection works.
• Check the required reference markings are available for FFL (finished floor levels) or finished wall.
• Mark the location of fixing device and conduit route on proper height based on approved shop
drawing.
• Ensure the box size and accordingly cut a bit larger size of box in marked place of block wall.
• Start cutting the marked place for conduit run with the help of grinder and chip with hammer after
cutting.
• Fix the Back box of appropriate size and level with the help of spirit level. The bottom portion of box
should match the marked level as per consultant approved shop drawing.
• Apply cement filler to fix the box properly and leave for setting, insert the required lengths of
conduits on their paths and don't connect with boxes until next day.
• Next day, after setting of boxes connect the dropped conduits for switch/socket to the box.
• Make sure the conduits are not visible from outside their route which could lead improper
plastering.
• Before the plastering work issue the inspection requests for client so that approval can be taken.

4.6.1.2 GI CONDUIT (FOR ADDITIONAL POINTS)

• Check the route of GI Conduiting free from debris and no obstruction of any other activity. Arrange
scaffolding of sufficient height.
• Mark the reference points on wall/ column as per civil architectural drawing.
• Identify the circuit start point and end & mark GI Conduiting route as per approved drawings.
• Make hole in concrete for anchor bolts/wall plug & fix wall plug inside hole then fix base of saddle
by screw every 1m span.
• Use approved GI Conduiting & bends as per site condition and drawing. Remove sharp edge of cut
length of conduit by filing.
• Join the lengths using the threaded joints and fittings.
• Install conduit and tight with saddle and screw.

• Make earthing of GI Conduiting & Check for continuity.


• Installation of GI Conduiting shall be checked by internal QA/QC Engineer as per drawings and quality
of installation before offering consultant/client for inspection

4.6.2 CABLE PULLING

2C X 1.5 mm cable use to make connection between Manual call Point, Detectors, Horn and FACP, 2C X 1.5 mm
cable use to make connection between Fire Alarm Repeater Panel and FACP.

1. Cables shall be laid mainly in the PVC/ GI Conduit.


2. Cable winch, if used, shall be positioned in proper place for cable pulling.
3. The cable drum intended for cable pulling shall be identified as per that indicated in the drum schedule.
4. The cable drums shall be unpacked.
5. Cable laying will generally start from one end of the route length from other suitable point if
required.
6. In case of cable lengths which are more than one drum length, all cables which can be laid from original
position will be completed. And then the cable pulling set-up will be re-positioned to the next location,
from where the next length will be pulled.
7. Depending on the weight and size of the drum, suitable size of the cable rolling shaft (Spindle) shall be
placed inside the central axis of the drum.
8. Suitable jacks shall be placed firm ground and jacked-up to allow clearance from the ground
depending on the size of the cable drum.
9. The drum shall be lifted by required equipment and placed on the jacks.
10. The cable drum will be correctly positioned and the direction of cable pulling as indicated by arrow
on the drum shall be complied.
11. Cables will be laid/ pulled by hand and/ or winch.
12. Cables will be pulled according to drum-cable cutting schedule and as shown in the relevant
drawings.
13. Bending radius of cables shall comply with cable manufacturer's recommendation.
14. Unless the lengths exceed the maximum drum, lengths joints shall be avoided.
15. Before cutting the cable, both ends must be inspected to ensure sufficient length is for proper dressing
and end termination.
16. The open ends will be sealed till termination.
17. Soon after completion of every cable the cables will be tested for insulation resistance.
18. The cable schedule and drum schedule will be updated with the information on cable pulling.
19. Daily progress report will be submitted for the activity.
20. After completion of all cables in the same route the cables shall be dressed and clamped.
21. Interval of clamping will be as per Client Specification but will not exceed l0Mtr forth horizontal runs
and 1.0Mtr for vertical runs.
22. Inspection of the installation and punch list.
23. Cable joints position will be shown on the drawings.

24. As-Built mark-up drawings certified by BSE's Supervisor and Engineer will be prepared.
25. Empty cable drums will be transported back to stores.

4.7 MAIN CONTROL PANEL

4.7.1 FIXING THE CONTROL PANEL

Fix the Main control panel on the wall in the correct location as per the approved shop drawing as instructions given by
Manufacture by using anchor fasteners.

4.8 MANUAL CALL POINT

4.8.1 FIXING THE BACK BOX

Back boxes for all the outstations should be installed as per approved shop drawings / material submittals. The mounting
heights for the junction boxes should be verified with approved shop drawings.

4.8.2 FIXING MANUAL CALL POINT

Fix the Manual Call Point in the Back box as instructions given by manufacture.

4.9 HORN/SOUNDER

4.9.1 FIXING THE BACK BOX

Back boxes for all the outstations should be installed as per approved shop drawings / material submittals. The mounting
heights for the junction boxes should be verified with approved shop drawings.

4.9.2 FIXING THE HORN/SOUNDER

Fix the Horn in the Back box as instructions given by manufacture.
