The Complete Guide to Cake Fillings

Compote Guide

Equipment Needed: cutting board, knife, saucepan, measuring cups,

measuring spoons, rubber spatula

Apple Compote Recipe

● 4 small or 3 large apples, whatever kind you like, peeled and diced
● ¼ Cup granulated sugar
● ¼ Cup packed brown sugar
● ¼ Cup water
● ¼ Cup Calvados, optional (if not using, substitute with water or other liquid)
● 2 Tablespoons unsalted butter
● ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
● ¼ teaspoon cinnamon
● 1/8 teaspoon allspice

1. Combine all ingredients in a saucepan and simmer on medium-low heat until

desired consistency. 15-45 minutes

● Compotes are basically fruit cooked in a sugar syrup.

● You can use any type of fruit combined with many
flavorings; fresh herbs, spices, liquor, fruit juice, and extracts.
● Generally, there is not a set ratio. Cook harder fruits in
larger amounts of liquid, so that the fruit has time to cook
before the syrup thickens. Softer fruits need less liquid and
can be cooked for shorter periods of time.
● Adjust cooking time to desired texture and consistency.
