INTRODUCTION

Technology has become an integral part of our daily lives and has dramatically
impacted how we interact, communicate, and carry out various activities
Technological advancements have brought positive and negative changes to
society and culture In this article, we will explore the impact of technology on
society and culture and how it has influenced different aspects of our lives.
Technology has drastically improved communication and made it easier for
people to connect to anywhere in the world. Social media platforms, instant
messaging, and video conferencing have brought people closer, bridging
geographical distances and cultural differences. This has made it easier for
people to share information, exchange ideas, and collaborate on projects
Technological advancements have resulted in a reduction in critical thinking and
creativity. With so much information at our fingertips, individuals have become
more passive in their learning, relying on the internet for solutions rather than
logic and inventiveness. As a result, independent thinking and problem-solving
abilities have declined
HOW AND WHY TECHNOLOGY AND COMMUNICATION
IS IMPORTANT TO US?
For as long as humans have been on this planet, we've invented forms of
communication from smoke signals and messenger pigeons to the telephone and
email that have constantly evolved how we interact with each other.
For better or worse, technology affects communication because it is a part of our
everyday lives. It impacts the way we work, entertain ourselves, and stay in
touch.
When we look back at how communication has advanced over the years, it really
is quite incredible...
The Telephone
In 1849, the telephone was invented and within 50 years it was an essential item
for homes and offices, but tethering impacted the flexibility and privacy of the
device. Then, came the mobile phone. In 1973, Motorola created a mobile phone
which kick-started a chain of developments that transformed communication
forever.
Early smartphones were primarily aimed towards the enterprise market,
bridging the gap between telephones and personal digital assistants (PDAs), but
they were bulky and had short battery lives. By 1996, Nokia was releasing
phones with QWERTY keyboards and by 2010, the majority of Android phones
were touchscreen-only.
THE INTERNET
Since the mid-1990s, the Internet has had a revolutionary impact on
communication, including the rise of near-instant communication by electronic
mail, instant messaging, voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) telephone calls,
two-way interactive video calls, discussion forums, blogs, and social networking.
The internet has made communication easier and faster, it's allowed us to stay in
contact with people regardless of time and location. It's accelerated the pace of
business and widened the possibilities within the enterprise space. It's allowed
people to find their voice and express themselves through social media, YouTube
and memes. The internet has connected and divided us like nothing before.
EMAIL
As a byproduct of the World Wide Web, email was introduced to the world in
1991 (although it had been operating years before) and it has vastly changed our
lives whether for better or worse depends on your viewpoint. The first users of
the messaging platform were educational systems and the military who used
email to exchange information. In 2018, there were more than 3.8 billion email
users-that's more than half the planet. By 2022, it's expected that we will be
sending 333 billion personal and business emails each day.

WEARABLE TECHNOLOGY
The first instance of wearable technology was a handsfree mobile headset
launched in 1999, which became a piece of tech synonymous with city. workers.
It gave businesspeople the ability to answer calls on the go, most importantly,
while driving.
Ten years ago, the idea that you could make a video call from an item other than
a phone would have been a sci-fi dream. Now, with smartwatches, audio.
sunglasses, and other emerging wearable technology, these capabilities are a
part of our daily lives.
VIRTUAL REALITY (VR)
The next generation of VR has only been around since 2016, but it's already.
shaking up communications. The beauty of VR-presence-means you can connect
to someone in the same space at the same time, without the time sink and cost of
travel, even if participants are on different continents.
VR also helps to facilitate better communication. In a typical discussion, a lot of
information is non-verbal communication which can be transcribed in VR. Voice
tone, hesitations, head and hand movements greatly improve the understanding
of the participants' emotions and intents. Plus in VR, all distractions are removed
and people can be fully focused on what is happening around them. In fact,
MeetinVR claims that there is a 25% increase in attention span when meeting in
virtual reality compared to video conferencing.
5G
5G, the 5th generation of mobile network, promises much faster data download
and upload speeds, wider coverage, and more stable connections. These benefits
will bring about significant improvements in communication. Instantaneous
communication will be possible and those patchy frustrating video calls will be a
thing of the past.
The average 4G transmission speed currently available for our smartphones is
around the 21 Mbps mark. 5G will be 100 to 1000 times faster. The Consumer
Technology Association notes that at this speed, you could download a two- hour
movie in just 3.6 seconds, versus 6 minutes on 4G or 26 hours on 3G. The impact
of 5G will go far beyond our smartphones as it will allow millions of devices to
be connected simultaneously.
TECHNOLOGIES FROM THE PAST

Typewriter

Typewriter is a mechanical or electromechanical machine for typing characters.

Typically, a typewriter has an array of keys, and each one causes a different
single character to be produced on paper by striking an inked ribbon selectively
against the paper with a type element. The first commercial typewriters were
introduced in 1874. The typewriter quickly became an indispensable tool for
practically all writing other than personal handwritten correspondence. It was
widely used by professional writers, in offices, business correspondence in
private homes, and by students preparing written assignments
Telephones

A telephone is a telecommunications device that permits two or more users to

conduct a conversation when they are too far apart to be easily heard directly. A
telephone converts sound, typically and most efficiently the human voice, into
electronic signals that are transmitted via cables and other communication
channels to another telephone which reproduces the sound to the receiving user.
In 1876, Alexander Graham Bell was the first to be granted a United States
patent for a device that produced clearly intelligible replication of the human
voice at a second device. This instrument was further developed by many others,
and became rapidly indispensable in business, government, and in households.
Daguerreotype camera

Louis-Jacques-Mandé Daguerre invented the daguerreotype process in France.

The invention was announced to the public on August 19, 1839 at a meeting of
the French Academy of Sciences in Paris. The daguerreotype is a direct-positive
process, creating a highly detailed image on a sheet of copper plated with a thin
coat of silver without the use of a negative. Popularity of the daguerreotype
declined in the late 1850s when the ambrotype, a faster and less expensive
photographic process, became available.
Pigeon post

Pigeon post is the use of homing pigeons to carry messages. Pigeons are effective
as messengers due to their natural homing abilities. As a method of
communication, it is likely as old as the ancient Persians, from whom the art of
training the birds probably came. The pigeons are transported to a destination in
cages, where they are attached with messages, then the pigeon naturally flies
back to its home where the recipient could read the message. They have been
used in many places around the world. Pigeons have also been used to great
effect in military situations, and are in this case referred to as war pigeons. The
Romans used pigeon messengers to aid their military over 2000 years ago
TECHNOLOGIES USED IN THE PRESENT

Printer

A printer is a peripheral machine which makes a persistent representation of

graphics or text, usually on paper. While most output is human-readable, bar
code printers are an example of an expanded use for printers. Different types of
printers include 3D printers, inkjet printers, laser printers, and thermal printers.
The first computer printer designed was a mechanically driven apparatus by
Charles Babbage for his difference engine in the 19th century; however, his
mechanical printer design was not built until 2000.
Smart phone

A smartphone is a portable computer device that combines mobile telephone

functions and personal computing functions into one unit. They are distinguished
from older-design feature phones by their more advanced hardware capabilities
and extensive mobile operating systems, which facilitate wider software, access
to the internet (including web browsing over mobile broadband), and multimedia
functionality (including music, video, cameras, and gaming), alongside core
phone functions such as voice calls and text messaging.
Digital camera

A digital camera is a camera that captures photographs in digital memory. Most

cameras produced today are digital, largely replacing those that capture images
on photographic film. Digital cameras are now widely incorporated into mobile
devices like smartphones with the same or more capabilities and features of
dedicated cameras (which are still available). High-end, high-definition dedicated
cameras are still commonly used by professionals and those who desire to take
higher-quality photographs.
Email

Electronic mail (email or e-mail) is a method of transmitting and receiving

messages using electronic devices. It was conceived in the late-20th century as
the digital version of mails. Email is a ubiquitous and very widely used
communication medium; in current use, an email address is often treated as a
basic and necessary part of many processes in business, commerce, government,
education, entertainment, and other spheres of daily life in most countries. Email
operates across computer networks, primarily the Internet, and also local area
networks. Today's email systems are based on a store-and-forward model. Email
servers accept, forward, deliver, and store messages. Neither the users nor their
computers are required to be online simultaneously; they need to connect,
typically to a mail server or a webmail interface to send or receive messages or
download it.
WHAT IS THE NEED FOR TECHNOLOGICAL
DEVELOPMENT?

There is continuous work and progress in the area of technology as it offers

significant benefits. And these benefits have a huge impact on our day-to-day
lives and the operations of countless industries, such as healthcare, automobile,
communication, manufacturing, and business, among others. With that said, here
are ways in which technology is both important and immensely beneficial:
1. Added Efficiency
Organizations constantly struggle with the goal of maximizing their output while
reducing the inputs. This is where technology is a game changer, especially
automation. With automated processes, repetitive and redundant operations take
minimal time or labor while ensuring expected output.
2. Faster Decision Making
With technologies such as artificial intelligence and machine learning, it has
become easier than ever to handle large volumes of data and make crucial
business decisions based on the insights derived from the data. In addition to this,
technological resources add accuracy to the decision-making process as they
reduce the scope of errors from manual operations.
3. Cost and Time-Saving
Since machines are way faster than humans, certain tasks that may require an
incredible amount of manual work and attention to detail can be easily
accomplished with the help of technology. Technology also ensures improved
accuracy. Further, the use of technology in certain areas can also help save
significant costs. For instance, transitioning to digital communication from
paper-based communication and engaging machines in tasks that might take a lot
more time to complete can help save costs.
4. Competitive Edge
In today's day and age when organizations compete neck and neck, technology
can be one aspect that empowers a company to outdo its competition.
Oftentimes, technology also serves as a USP or something that sets the company
apart from others in the eyes of potential clients and customers. With access to
advanced technology, companies have the opportunity to create better products,
which can ultimately help them improve their sales.

5. Increased Innovation
Technology has proven to be the most useful resource for almost any industry to
move forward and make progress. Upgrades not only help organizations step up
but they also case the operations for employees as well as people in general. This
underlines the importance of technology in making innovations, which has a
large-scale benefit.
Technology is immensely useful both personally and professionally. While the
way we live our lives has changed significantly with every technological
innovation, it is just as true for businesses and industries, such as healthcare,
education, construction and architecture, and entertainment to name a few. With
that said, here's how technology has changed different spheres of our lives:

6. Technology Makes Collaboration Easy

We live in a world where collaboration is essential, and technology has
transformed how we collaborate. Businesses specifically benefit a lot from the
collaborative advantages of technological innovations that allow communication
from any part of the world through virtual means. With this, businesses can tap
into opportunities to expand globally or reach out to a wider audience with more
ease.
7.Technology Helps New Businesses
Today, technology empowers entrepreneurs to start new ventures and raise
capital by offering a wide range of options. People with ideas can find ways to
implement them and turn their ideas into the next big thing, create transformative
business plans, and take their initial steps to start a business with more
convenience. Technology also offers the advantage of easy scalability while
improving both customer sales and employee processes.

8. Technology Helps Create More Equality in Society

Technology has made it possible for people from all walks of life to have access
to different resources. Further, technology is also being used to equip people who
need a certain type of assistance to improve their quality of life and help them
avail opportunities that would otherwise be inaccessible.
For instance, with technological advancements, people with blindness or hearing
difficulties can be provided assistance using technology. Further, health-related
tools, such as artificial joints and cardiovascular implants help people with
certain disabilities or health conditions to have an improved quality of life.
HOW TECHNOLOGY SHAPED OUR LIFE:

In every case of our life, the touch of technology has the presence. Technology
helps human beings do new things or do something smoothly in their day-to-day
life. The effects of technology are present in every sector of human life like
entertainment, farming, communication, living, education and working, etc.
Technology changed our communication and information system:
A massive part of communication and information systems has been affected by
technological advancement. We can communicate with remote people through
video, audio calls, and text messages easily over the internet. By dint of
smartphones and Computer, the human being can not feel the distance of
communication. Social media communication has become the mirror of human
life. Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter have influenced social life predominantly
and made the world a village. The most beneficial thing is that you can get any
kind of information from the internet according to your necessity and implement
it your tasks.
Technology has changed our living style:
Internet of Things (IoT) has a great contribution in changing the ways of
living. Our daily activities can be done with technological materials. We can do
our household chores, regular activities with the small robotic system. Shopping,
food delivery, transportation, and healthcare are performed with advanced
technology.
The changes in our education system:
Technology is a great blessing in the educational sector. Due to E-learning
systems, Practical and effective learning has brought a great revolution.
Students are getting interactive learning and resource-based knowledge from the
internet and technological system. Covid-19 is the witness of distance learning
and it has integrated all the things of e-learning systems. In the case of research,
deep learning, and educational activities, artificial intelligence, and the internet
will give the fulfilments of your tasks.
Changes in entertainment due to technology:
A great number of people use technology in this era to get entertainment. The
interest of the people is getting changed with the invention of technology like
Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime, and Video. These kinds of things offer access to
cable TV but it is different in this respect that with the help of the internet you
can watch the same content from YouTube or websites. All the entertainment-
related contents are at the fingertips of every people.
The effects of the technology in the case of the healthcare system:
Once upon a time, the human being has to become the victim of death due to
simple diseases but in recent times, organ transplant or heart, transplant is
possible with modern technology. Personalized Medicine, Telehealth, Cancer
Immunotherapy, 3D Printing, Augmented Reality & Virtual, Reality, and
Robotic Surgery has increased the lifespan of the human being.
Our life is intimately involved with technology and human being always try to
utilize the benefits of technology. However, both the bad and positive sides affect
our human lifestyle simultaneously. The main of technology is to help
humankind with positive aspects
STORY'S CONNECT WITH TECHNOLOGY
The Third Level" by Jack Finney is a captivating short story published in 1950,
and while it doesn't delve directly into modern technology, it explores the
fascinating concept of time travel and serves as a reflection of how people have
historically sought forms of escapism, which can be related to modern
technology in an indirect way.
The story revolves around the protagonist, Charley, who stumbles upon a hidden
and enchanting place at the Grand Central Terminal in New York City: the "third
level." This level is far from the bustling, modern world of the 1950s, and
Charley discovers that it allows him to escape from his everyday life and travel
back in time to the year 1894. The "third level" is not a product of advanced
technology but rather a portal that offers Charley a unique form of escapism.
In Charley's case, the allure of the "third level" is deeply rooted in his desire to
escape the anxieties and uncertainties of his contemporary world. The post-
World War II era was marked by profound societal changes and uncertainties,
and Charley, like many individuals, yearned for a simpler and more nostalgic
past. His experience with the "third level" serves as a means of relieving the
pressures of his time and finding comfort in an earlier period in American
history.
While Charley's experience is a product of fiction, it highlights a timeless human
desire for escapism and nostalgia. In today's world, advanced technology plays a
role in fulfilling similar desires. Technology, particularly in the form of
entertainment and virtual experiences, has become a modern-day escape from the
stresses of everyday life.

For example, video games, virtual reality, and augmented reality technologies
provide people with immersive and often nostalgic experiences that temporarily
disconnect them from the challenges and complexities of their contemporary
world. Gamers can explore historical settings, experience fantasy worlds, or even
interact with past eras, all from the comfort of their own homes. This is akin to
Charley's escape to the year 1894 through the "third level," as modern technology
allows people to immerse themselves in different time periods, albeit in a digital
and simulated form.

Additionally, the internet and social media enable individuals to engage with
curated versions of the past. In this sense, technology serves as a means of
satisfying our yearning for nostalgia and a simpler past. Just as Charley uses the
"third level" to find solace in the past, people today use technology to reconnect
with their own versions of "simpler times."

While "The Third Level" doesn't feature modern technology as we know it, the
story touches on a universal human theme: the desire to escape from the present
and find solace in the past. Charley's journey to the year 1894 reflects the
timeless yearning for simpler, less complicated times. In today's world,
technology provides similar forms of escapism, allowing people to immerse
themselves in virtual experiences that transport them to different eras or offering
curated versions of the past through social media. In this way, "The Third Level"
serves as a poignant reflection of the human fascination with nostalgia and
escapism, a theme that continues to be relevant in our increasingly technology-
driven lives.
CONCLUSION

Technology has become a crucial part of our society. Without technological

advancements, so much of our everyday lives would be drastically different. As
technology develops, it strives to fulfil the changing needs of society. Technology
progresses as society evolves. That being said, progress comes at a price. This
price is different for each person, and varies based on how much people value
technological and scientific advancements in their own lives. Thomas Parke
Hughes's Networks of Power "compared how electric power systems developed
in America, England, and Germany, showing that they required not only
electrical but social 'engineering' to create the necessary legal frameworks,
financing, standards, political support, and organizational designs" (Stanford
University). In other words, the scientific invention and production of a new
technology does not ensure its success. Technology's success is highly dependent
on society's acceptance or rejection of a product, as well as whether or not any
path dependence is involved. Changing technologies benefit consumers in
countless aspects of their lives including in the workforce, in communications, in
the use of natural resources, and so much more. These innovations across
numerous different markets aid society by making it easier to complete certain
tasks. Innovation will never end; rather, it will continue to develop at increasing
rates as science and technological fields becomes more and more cutting edge.
