Targets.
2. Performance-Oriented Assessment
Involves demonstrating a skill or ability in a real-world scenario.
Example: Teaching a basic lesson while incorporating effective teaching
strategies.
3. Product-Oriented Assessment
Focuses on creating tangible outcomes as evidence of learning.
Example: Developing a lesson plan that integrates assessment strategies.
4. Matching Learning Targets with Assessment Methods
Skills: Best assessed through performance-based assessments (e.g., delivering
a lesson).
Products: Best assessed through portfolios or tangible outputs (e.g., a lesson
plan with assessment strategies).
Affective Learning: Best assessed through reflection journals or self-report
scales.
Activity: Applying Learning Targets in Teaching
Task 1: Creating Learning Targets
If you are taking Secondary Education, choose a topic from a high school
subject (e.g., Mathematics, Science, English). If you are taking Elementary
Education, choose a topic from an elementary subject (e.g., Filipino, Science,
Math).
Create at least three learning targets for your chosen topic. Make sure to
follow these formats:
Knowledge Target: "I can [state what students need to know]"
Reasoning Target: "I can [state how students use what they know]"
Skill Target: "I can [state what students can demonstrate]"
Write a short explanation (3-5 sentences) about why these learning targets are
important and how they help students in learning the topic effectively.
Example:
Subject: Science (Elementary)
Knowledge Target: "I can identify the parts of a plant."
Reasoning Target: "I can compare different types of plants."
Skill Target: "I can classify plants based on their characteristics."
Explanation: Learning targets help guide students in understanding a topic
step by step. They ensure that students gain knowledge, apply reasoning, and
develop skills related to the lesson.
Task 2: Formulating Learning Target Tasks and Assessment Plan
Based on the learning targets you created in Task 1, design one learning task
for each target that students can perform to show their understanding.
Example: If your skill target is "I can classify plants," your learning
task could be a hands-on activity where students group plants based on
their characteristics.
Choose an appropriate alternative assessment method for each learning task.
Alternative assessments may include:
Performance-based tasks (e.g., role-playing, experiments, or projects)
Self-assessment (e.g., learning journals or reflections)
Peer assessment (e.g., group presentations with feedback)
Submit your assessment plan in a table format, clearly outlining the learning
target, task, and alternative assessment method.
