Introduction.
Technology has helped to improve the society a great deal in that it has
made work easier in the healthcare aspect agricultural department,
communication, business environment, education , biotechnology and many
others. Although the advantages are many it has also led to disadvantages
such as cyber crimes, reduced engagement time,over dependacy on
technology, joblessness to some individuals, health issues such as eye
problems, inability to sleep . Below I have explained both the positive and
the negative aspects of technology.
Definition of Science and Technology, Science refers to the body of
knowledge that involves behavioural change, observations, experimentation
whereas Technology refers to the application of scientific knowledge into the
human lives that is health, communication sector, businesses with the aim
of provision of services, growth and solving problems in simpler terms,
Technology is where we apply the science to make devices perform various
tasks to solve problems.
Below are some of the aspects on how science and technology has
impacted positively and negatively .
The use of E-commerce.
The use of E-commerce that is digital payment systems in businesses has
made it easy for the people in business to keep records of all items in stock,
it has also helped to perform multiple financial transactions therefore making
it easier in the way people shop for their items/needs which reduces queues
in shops , supermarkets therefore saving time for the both parties ( the
customer and the business owner) therefore making it easy ,convenient and
reliable.
The use of online learning and easy access to information.
Technology has improved the way our children and even mature adults can
access education at their own comfort by the use of educational learning
application packages, online learning which helps them to learn Learning has
been enjoyable since you don’t have to attend a physical class to be taught
manually but rather do an online class and also exams. Easy access of
knowledge has enabled one to engage well in critical thinking acquire new
ideas on how to solve problems at work and even at our homes before
acquiring assistance from an outsider.
The use of Telemedicine in the healthcare departments.
Many people can access knowledge about various medicines online,
hospitals have been able to accurately keep records of their patients and this
has helped to increase the quality of work, care and reduce the possibility of
errors . Doctors have also been able to reduce the number of people from
dying from certain sickness due to the use of new medical equipment which
has helped cure illness therefore reducing the number of people that would
die from the same illness.
The use of Biotechnology.
This refers to the use of biology that involves living organisms,cells to
develop new products , improve already existing products and provide
solutions to problems .This field has five branches .The first branch is Animal
biotechnology that deals with the study of animals how well they can
reproduce, yield more milk meat production and increased resistance to
illness .The second branch is Medical biotechnology deals with the
identification of certain diseases, production of drugs and hormones such as
insulin for the human being, vaccines to certain diseases such as chicken pox
.The third branch is the Industrial Technology refers to the massive
production of organic substances such as citric acid and other
microorganisms such as fungi and bacteria. The fourth is Environmental
biotechnology refers to the treatment of waste, sewage ,water and the
control of insects and plant diseases through biological agents such as fungi,
bacteria and viruses. The fifth which is the last branch is Plant biotechnology
this branch majorly deals with plants resistance to biotic and abiotic needs .
Therefore technology has helped one to understand how biotechnology
applies in these areas medicine, environment,animal , industrial and plant .
The use of gadgets such as Mobile phones to communicate.
Communication has been made easy by the use of smart phones to convey
information, messages, connect easily and that saves money and time .The
same phones have enabled one to deliver given tasks ,watch games for
entertainment purposes, one has also been able to do online marketing
either to buy or sell certain goods which has also made shopping easier.
Agricultural advancement
Technology has made farming easier through development of more farming
tools,data analysis and the use of GMOs genetically modified organisms
which are more resistant to diseases .
The use of digital services.
Technology has made it easy for customers like myself acquire items online
view their specifications first before purchasing, talking to the persons in
charge upon purchasing it which is delivered to my door step which saves
money and time for me and others who prefer online services.
Through online platforms customers have also been able to book flights at
the convenience of their home work place and this has helped to save time
and money .
It has also reduced boredom since people can watch and play games during
their free time which helps to exercise ones’ brain .Technology through our
phones has created jobs for some where people use social media to market
items on behalf of the company , reading Emails and responding to them,
delivering assignments on behalf of others such as online writing, projects,
academic writing platforms have enabled people acquire payments
thereafter.
The use of Robotics and Artificial intelligence AI.
This however is both an advantage and a disadvantage. In the areas such as
transportation, construction industry use of robotics would apply better
especially in cases where more labour work needs to be put whereas it’s a
disadvantage in cases where an employer decides to use a robotic in a
restaurant to perform tasks that a human being would perform well resulting
to joblessness. The use of AI artificial intelligence is a system that enables
computers perform tasks that would require human efforts to do it which am
afraid will finally come to consume all human efforts and all will have to deal
with is joblessness and blame it all on technology in the future.
Increased immorality.
This has led to people stealing and leaking private information this includes
posting nude pictures and videos into social media for their own profit or
rather political gain which has led to many criticizing these. Other
immoralities include use of credit/debit card theft cases ,to make purchases
or rather make payments for goods that have been stolen , system hacking
that involves retrieving private information and malware installations.
Reduced time for Socialisation.
People nowadays prefer engaging themselves on social media platforms
keeping tabs on what appears on their screen such as watching the latest
trends, current affairs,jobs,murder,songs, gossips this resulting to physical
and mental health such as eye problems due to excessive usage of their
phones , inability to sleep, back ache disorders . People should limit the use
of social media platforms to avoid unhealthy disorders in the near future that
could even be long-term. Social media platforms that have been given much
priority nowerdays include tiktok,snapchat,whatsapp, Facebook ,Instagram ,
telegram and Twitter.Too much time has been spent on phone scrolling such
that there is no time for physical engagement, Socialisation which has
resulted to others feeling lonely and isolated especially those who find
comfort in engaging with others
Technology dependacy
People nowadays depend so much on technology such even the smallest of
tasks they cannot handle but rather depend on the knowledge well given on
our screens,the use of artificial intelligence to carry out tasks ,do animated
tasks has made it easy for people to escape most of their assignments. This
has resulted to laziness at work and reduced physical activities.
Conclusion and summary.
To sum it all , technology has been a powerful tool that has really improved
the society in the way we do our work, communicate and live and as we
continue enhancing new technology every day we should be mindful on the
impact to the coming generation in the society .We should therefore use it in
the right way to deliver given tasks, solve problems and provide services to
others efficiently, learning students should continue taking advantage of
online studies to study and access more knowledge as this will help them
acquire useful knowledge concerning their career jobs and help in solving
problems that might occur. If people can stop too much dependacy on the
internet it will help reduce or rather avoid illnesses such as back aches,
inability to sleep, eye problems due to too much use of our screens and so
have limited access to it .Therefore I view technology as a good thing only if
it’s used in the right way as it has helped to simplify things in most areas of
life this includes communication, healthcare, agriculture, business,
biotechnology among others. To those who might not have the knowledge on
technology we should take that initiative and teach them on how to use and
access it.
