Midterm Activity: Diode Circuits
1. Consider the circuit below.
2. Use Multisim (TM) online and construct the circuit. Place an ammeter through the diode to
measure the current and voltmeters across the diode and the output voltage. Take a snippet of
the circuit:
3. Run the circuit to see the respective current and voltage values. Take a snippet of the circuit
during runtime and put the simulated values in the table below.
Running Circuit
Diode Current (ID) -6.8928nA
Diode Voltage (VD) -1.5135V
Output Voltage (Vo) -3.8600uV
4. Analyze the circuit using any circuit analysis method to compute for the diode current and the
diode and load voltages. Indicate the method you are using and support your solution with
explanations. Enclose the computed values in a box. Take a picture (or snippet) of your
handwritten analysis and paste it in the space below.
5. Reverse the position of the diode then run the circuit again to see the respective current and
voltage values. Take a snippet of the circuit during runtime and put the simulated values in the
table below.
Running Circuit
Diode Current (ID) 4.3071V
Diode Voltage (VD) 4.3071mA
Load Voltage (VL) 0.7V
6. Analyze the circuit using any circuit analysis method to compute for the diode current and the
diode and load voltages. Indicate the method you are using and support your solution with
explanations. Enclose the computed values in a box. Take a picture (or snippet) of your
handwritten analysis and paste it in the space below.
7. OPTIONAL. Consider the circuit below.
8. Use Multisim (TM) online and construct the circuit. Place an ammeter through R1, R2 and D1 to
measure the current flowing through the components and voltmeters to find the voltage across
R1 and the voltage Vo. Take a snippet of the circuit:
9. Run the circuit to see the respective current and voltage values. Take a snippet of the circuit
during runtime and put the simulated values in the table below.
Running Circuit
Current through R1 (IR1) 12.526mA
Current through R2 (IR2) 12.370mA
Current through D1 (ID1) 156.24uA
Voltage Across R1 (VR1) 473.96mV
Output Voltage (Vo) 473.96mV
10. Analyze the circuit using any circuit analysis method to compute for the required currents and
voltages. Indicate the method you used and support your solution with explanations. Enclose
the computed values in a box. Take a picture (or snippet) of your handwritten analysis and paste
it in the space below.
11. Write a brief conclusion about this activity.
In conclusion, this activity tests our knowledge and help us to familiarize circuits with diodes and how
to solve them. This activity also let us practice our ability to construct circuits and test how accurate
and how well we know the various parts of the circuits and the application that was assigned to us
which is Multisim. I also want to add that despite the long time given to us I fail to complete the
activity because some of the topics still confuse me but this also gives me motivation and challenge to
do better and study more on what I didn’t finished or understand on this activity.
12. Pledge of honor:
I, Symon Christopher R. Santos, affirm that I will not cheat nor give and receive any unauthorized help
on this midterm activity and that all work will be my own.
GUIDELINES:
1. Download and edit this document. The snippets here are merely examples and they do not in
any way represent the correct answers. Do not change the given circuits.
2. Use Win-Shift-S to take a snippet of the required images.
3. You will be graded based on (1) Correctness, (2) Completeness and (3) Presentation of the
submitted activity.
4. Submit your papers in PDF format only.
5. The (signed) honor pledge must indicate that you never, in any form, cheat in doing this activity.
