Locus

The document consists of a series of geometry problems involving loci and regions defined by specific conditions. It includes tasks such as drawing loci based on distances from points and lines, shading regions based on proximity to given points and lines, and constructing geometric shapes using a ruler and compass. Additionally, it involves practical applications like locating a sprinkler and potential tree positions within a defined plot of land.

LOCUS QUESTIONS
1. The figure below represents a triangular field ABC

(a) Draw the locus of points 2 cm from E

(b) Draw the locus of points equidistant from the sides EF and EG

(c) Draw the locus of all points equidistant from E and G

(d) A coin is lost within a region which is nearer to point E than to the point G and closer to
the side EG than to the side EF. Shade the region where the coin can be located.

2. A region R lies on the upper side of line PQ below such that and the area of
PRQ is greater than . Shade the region R. (3 marks)

3. A line segment AB is 6 cm long. Using a ruler and a pair of compasses only, shade a
region Q on the upper side of AB that is bounded by the following loci: (3 marks)

(a) The locus of R such that

(b) The locus of P such that

4. The figure below shows a rectangle ABCD. While refilling the pen, a drop of ink (I)
landed inside the rectangle ABCD. Given that ink was closer to BC than AB,
and the area of . Shade and label region I. (4 marks)

5. The diagram below shows a Cartesian plane. A set of points is chosen from the Cartesian
plane such that they satisfy the conditions below
(i) The points are at most 2 units from the x – axis.
(ii) None of the points is more than 3 units from the point A (2,1) .
(iii) The points are nearer the x – axis than the y – axis.
(iv) None of the points is more than 4 units from the y – axis.
By shading the unwanted region, construct the locus of all the points satisfying all the
four conditions above.

6. A plot of land is in the shape of a quadrilateral QRST such that QR = 270 m, QT = 180m,
angle
(a) Using a ruler and a pair of compasses only, and a scale of 1 cm to represent 30 m,
construct the plot. (3 marks)

(b) A farmer intends to plant vegetables in the farm but is scared of dry season. He
decides to mount a sprinkler inside the plot such that it is equidistant from the
vertices T and S and also equidistant from sides TS and RS. Locate the position of
the sprinkler using letter F. (3 marks)

(c) Locate a boundary K within the farm which is 45 m from TS. (2 marks)
(d) A tree N is on the plot such that;
i.
ii. N is closer to S than T
iii. N is closer to TS than RS.
Label and shade the possible position of Tree N. (2 marks)
