Research Statement: To what extent does FMCG packaging impact our localities?
Word count: 371
The FMCG industry spiked both a keen interest and concern in us due its facilitative but
also worrying impact. It showed clear rises in waste - a priori to increasing consumer
packaging. Our dual-pronged approach aims to marshal change and contribute
meaningfully.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Candidate 1 proposed research into FMCG packaging's environmental consequences
and evaluating local waste data, laying the groundwork. Candidate 2 managed the
logistical intricacies, finding partnerships for performance. Candidate 3 conducted
school and community questionnaires, analyzing the dependency on FMCG. Candidate
4 created and placed creative posters throughout school, coordinated with the
Biolutions factory for visits providing further insight.
Plan of Action:
To address the progressing crisis of FMCG packaging waste in Bengaluru, we
inculcated a biramous community-centric waste beau ideal. Alongside "Trash to Cash,"
we monetized waste drives for investment in sustainable alternatives. An trenchant
exploration of Biolutions illuminated the latest recycled material provenance. This
aspired to rally significant behavioral abatement and contribute to a more
environmentally responsive local surrounding. Our aim is to bring upon a managed
utilization and jettison spirit within our community.
Outcome and Aim:
Our aim was to create awareness and make the change we could as students. We
successfully built a strategic system and forged a partnership with Mr. Jain. Collecting
around 40 kgs of plastic, in exchange, with the capital we earned we bought recyclable
cloth bags to give to a convenience store owner to prevent the use of plastic and FMCG
packaging. We increased the knowledge of FMCG packaging by putting posters all over
our school, and having an in depth discussion with Mr. Jain on how Trash to Cash
works and the ways we can implement this in the long term. Success was measured by
kilograms of plastic collected, cloth bags distributed, and increased awareness.
Team Collaboration:
We collaborated skillfully, with little difficulty in separating tasks based on our strengths,
and keeping open minded and continuous communication. We found challenges in
updating and scheduling meetings for managing the project. We realized that while our
school-based actions and efforts were successful, to achieve an impact on the wider
community requires time even while being in progress with sustained effort and
engagement.
