Unlocking the power of

Quantum computing
Vendra Tharun Teja – 21PA105J2

Under the Guidance of

Dr. D .Shankar , Assistant Professor
Domain: Quantum Computing and Technology
Introduction
• Quantum computing is poised to revolutionize technology by leveraging the principles of
quantum mechanics to perform calculations far beyond the capabilities of classical
computers.

• Unlike classical computers that use bits to represent data as either 0 or 1, quantum
computers use quantum bits, or qubits, which can exist in multiple states simultaneously due
to superposition.

• The real potential of quantum computing lies in its ability to solve problems that are currently
intractable for classical systems, such as simulating complex molecular structures for drug
discovery, optimizing large-scale systems in real time, and breaking traditional cryptographic
protocols.

Vishnu Institute of Technology : Bhimavaram 2

Background & Fundamentals
• Superposition allows qubits to represent multiple states at once, enabling massive
parallelism in computations.

• Entanglement creates interdependencies between qubits, allowing faster processing and

better coordination.

• Quantum computers aim to solve problems like simulating molecular structures or optimizing
large-scale systems, which classical computers cannot.

• Quantum computing is driven by the foundational principles of quantum mechanics, which

differ drastically from classical physics.

Vishnu Institute of Technology : Bhimavaram 3

Technology/Methodology Used
•Quantum hardware includes superconducting qubits, trapped ions, and topologically protected
qubits, each with unique strengths.

•Shor’s Algorithm and Grover’s Algorithm are key quantum algorithms with applications in
cryptography and optimization.

•Quantum Error Correction techniques like surface codes are essential for maintaining qubit
stability during computations.

•Quantum algorithms require specific quantum hardware and software platforms like Qiskit to
execute and simulate computations.

Vishnu Institute of Technology : Bhimavaram 4

Applications & Real-World Use Cases
• Cryptography: Quantum computers can break current encryption methods, necessitating new
post-quantum cryptography systems.

• Drug Discovery: Quantum simulations allow faster modeling of molecular structures,

accelerating drug development.

• Optimization: Quantum computing can optimize supply chains and large-scale systems,
outperforming classical methods.

• Artificial Intelligence: Quantum computing has the potential to accelerate machine learning
algorithms, improving AI performance.

Vishnu Institute of Technology : Bhimavaram 5

Challenges & Limitations
• Quantum Decoherence: Qubits are highly sensitive to environmental factors, causing data
loss and errors.

• Error Correction: Traditional error correction methods are ineffective in quantum systems,
requiring specialized approaches.

• Scalability: Building large-scale quantum computers with thousands of qubits remains a

significant challenge.

• Hardware Reliability: The development of stable quantum hardware with minimal

interference remains a significant obstacle to widespread deployment.

Vishnu Institute of Technology : Bhimavaram 6

Conclusion & Key Takeaways
•Quantum computing holds immense potential to revolutionize industries, especially in
cryptography, AI, and drug discovery.

•Significant challenges remain, especially around hardware, error correction, and algorithm
development.

•Continued research is crucial to overcome these obstacles and realize the full potential of
quantum systems.

•As quantum computing evolves, it is expected to unlock new insights in material science,
climate change, and complex system optimization.
