Introduction
In this task, sentences will be identified and classified into four types: declarative,
interrogative, imperative, and exclamative. Each sentence will be analyzed and categorized
based on its purpose, whether it is to state facts, ask questions, give commands, or express
strong emotions. This classification will help to better understand how different sentence
types function in communication.
Indicate what type of sentences are the following sentences:
1. The sun rises in the East.
2. Every door opens to a smile.
3. Keep the heart with all diligence.
4. Who is the author of that book?
5. How tenderly a mother cares for her child!
6. Every morn is the world made new.
7. Sharpen this pencil for me.
8. What bright uniforms the soldiers wear!
9. The plowman homeward plods his heavy way.
10. How many lines have you written?
Solution
1. The sun rises in the East.
Declarative = It states a fact about the sun rising in the East.
2. Every door opens to a smile.
Declarative = It affirms a positive idea, suggesting that a smile can open doors.
3. Keep the heart with all diligence.
Imperative = It gives a command or advice, telling someone to "keep the heart."
4. Who is the author of that book?
Interrogative = It asks a direct question about the author.
5. How tenderly a mother cares for her child!
Exclamative = It shows strong emotion, emphasizing the mother’s care.
6. Every morn is the world made new.
Declarative = It affirms a poetic idea, saying that every morning the world feels new.
7. Sharpen this pencil for me.
Imperative = It gives a direct order to sharpen the pencil.
8. What bright uniforms the soldiers wear!
Exclamative = It expresses surprise or admiration about the soldiers' uniforms.
9. The plowman homeward plods his heavy way.
Declarative = It states that the plowman is walking home slowly.
10. How many lines have you written?
Interrogative = It asks a question about the number of lines written.
