MongoDB is a widely used NoSQL database that provides a flexible, scalable, and high-
performance solution for storing and managing various types of data. Unlike traditional
relational databases, MongoDB is schema-less, allowing for dynamic and unstructured data
schemas, which can adapt to evolving application requirements easily.

MongoDB is built on a scale-out architecture that has become popular with developers of all
kinds for developing scalable applications with evolving data schemas. As a document
database, MongoDB makes it easy for developers to store structured or unstructured data. It
uses a JSON-like format to store documents. As shown in the figure 5.1 MongoDB logo is
given. MongoDB is a NoSQL distributed database program. Because data doesn't need to fit
within the confines of a strict relationship, MongoDB can operate as a general data store.

Getting Started with MongoDB Atlas, the Developer Data Platform in this unit, it states that
MongoDB Atlas is a developer data platform that stores the data in Atlas clusters, a global, multi-
cloud database service. The developer data platform has many features that enable you to build a
wide variety of applications. To create a free Atlas account and deploy a free tier Atlas cluster by
choosing a shared cluster and by choosing a major cloud provider to host your cluster. Use the
region recommended by MongoDB as the location of database deployment. Prepare to connect to
your cluster by adding a database user and password and an IP address to the IP Access list.

5.1.1 Introduction to MongoDB Atlas, the Developer Data Platform

MongoDB Atlas is a fully-managed cloud database service provided by MongoDB, the popular
NoSQL database management system. It serves as the developer data platform, offering a range
of features to simplify database management and development workflows. MongoDB Atlas
enables global data distribution, allowing users to deploy clusters in different regions to reduce
latency and improve data access times. Compliance with various data protection regulations is
supported, facilitating adherence to industry standards. MongoDB Atlas serves as a robust
developer data platform, offering a cloud-based, fully-managed solution for MongoDB
databases.

5.1.2 Creating and Deploying an Atlas Cluster

Creating and deploying an Atlas cluster involves several steps. MongoDB Atlas provides a user-
friendly interface for managing database clusters. Creating and deploying an Atlas cluster is a
straightforward process with the MongoDB Atlas platform, and it provides a fully-managed
environment for running MongoDB databases in the cloud. Remember that specific steps and
options may vary based on updates and changes to the MongoDB Atlas platform. Always refer to
the official documentation for the most up-to-date information. After creating a new project, a
new cluster is build.

The MongoDB document model is a fundamental aspect of MongoDB's NoSQL database design.

simple for developers to learn and use, while still providing all the capabilities needed to meet
the most complex requirements at any scale.

MongoDB has a dynamic and flexible schema, allowing documents within a collection to have
different fields. As shown in the above figure 5.2 the certificate for completing the MongoDB
course is achieved. Fields can vary from document to document within the same collection,
providing agility in data modeling.

5.1.4 Managing Databases and Documents in Atlas Data Explorer

MongoDB Atlas Data Explorer is a graphical interface provided by MongoDB Atlas for
managing databases, collections, and documents. MongoDB stores data in flexible, JSON-like
documents, meaning fields can vary from document to document and data structure.
