MUSIC STOPS, NEWS BACKGROUND MUSIC FADES IN
Anchor 1: The Philippines’ inflation rate clocked in at 2.3% for the month of October,
the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) reported on Tuesday. Mr. will give us the details
Reporter 1: Inflation in October increased to 2.9%, up from 1.9% in September.
According to the Philippine Statistics Authority, this rise is mainly due to faster price
hikes in food and non-alcoholic beverages, which accounted for nearly half of the total
inflation rate. Rice, in particular, saw a significant jump to 9.6%, and the cost of corn
and vegetables also rose. The PSA also highlighted that while food and utilities saw
upward trends, other areas like alcoholic beverages, clothing, and recreation showed
slight decreases. Here's National Statistician and PSA Chief, Undersecretary Claire
Dennis Mapa, speaking at the recent press conference.
Undersecretary Claire Dennis Mapa: The latest inflation figures confirm that we are
on track to keep inflation within target. The government is fully committed to ensuring
price stability and protecting Filipino households from undue shocks. The government is
working relentlessly to keep food available and prices steady, particularly for essential
commodities. With targeted support and streamlined food supply chains, we aim to
ensure that food is affordable and accessible for Filipino families, especially those most
vulnerable to price shocks when disasters hit us.
REPORTER 1: Earlier today, I spoke with a local to understand how rising inflation is
impacting her family’s daily life. She shared the challenges of managing household
expenses amid these increasing costs.
MOTHER: Grabe, mahal na talaga mga bilihin ngayon. Yung kinikita ko, halos sa
pagkain pa lang namin, kulang na. Paano pa yung mga ibang bayarin?
REPORTER 1: The government assures the public that measures are underway to
stabilize prices, but for many Filipino families, the effects of inflation are felt in every
essential purchase. We’ll continue to monitor how these developments unfold in the
coming months. Reporting live, this is _______. Always at the frontline.
ANCHOR: Thank you, ________, for that update. In related news, we have developments in the energy
sector. Pump prices for gasoline are set to decrease this Tuesday, November 5. However, this relief will
be offset by increases in diesel and kerosene prices. For more details on how this will affect consumers,
let’s go to our energy correspondent, __________, for the latest insights. ______?
REPORTER 2: In a recent advisory, several oil companies, including Chevron Philippines Inc. (Caltex),
Petron Corp., Seaoil Philippines Corp., and Shell Pilipinas Corp., announced a price reduction of P0.10
per liter for gasoline. However, consumers should prepare for increases in diesel and kerosene, with
prices rising by P0.75 and P0.50 per liter, respectively. Cleanfuel, Petro Gazz, and Unioil Petroleum
Philippines Inc. will also implement similar changes, excluding kerosene. These price adjustments will
take effect at 6 a.m. on Tuesday, November 5, except for Cleanfuel, which will implement the changes at
4:01 p.m. today. I spoke with Rodela Romero, Assistant Director of the Department of Energy-Oil
Industry Management Bureau, about the factors influencing these changes.
Rodela Romero: The industry estimates are based on international trading over the past few days. The
anticipated price rollback is partly due to developments in the Middle East. Israel's Prime Minister is set
to call a meeting for a diplomatic solution to the ongoing conflict, which may ease tensions in the region.
REPORTER 2: While the decrease in gasoline prices may offer some relief, the increase in diesel and
kerosene will likely impact many commuters. I spoke with a jeepney driver about how these changes
affect their daily earnings.
bilihin.
REPORTER 2: As the market fluctuates, consumers are feeling the pinch of rising operational costs. The
last round of price hikes saw gasoline prices increase by P0.20, while diesel and kerosene also saw
similar rises. As of October 29, the year-to-date adjustments reflected a net increase of P0.20 per liter
for gasoline and P0.50 for both diesel and kerosene. We’ll continue to monitor these changes and their
impact on the public. This is _________ reporting for insight 360, every angle every detail of the news.
ANCHOR: Thank you, Sophia, for that thorough report. The ongoing adjustments in fuel prices certainly
have a significant impact on many Filipinos. In other news, the weather continues to be a major concern
as Severe Tropical Storm Marce approaches typhoon status, showing signs of rapid intensification. With
its potential to impact many regions, we turn now to our weather correspondent, _________, for the
latest updates on this developing situation. ______?
REPORTER3: Severe Tropical Storm Marce, also known as Yinxing, continues to strengthen and is nearing
typhoon status, with maximum sustained winds now reaching 110 kilometers per hour and gusts up to
135 km/h. PAGASA has reported that Marce was last observed 735 kilometers east of Baler, Aurora, and
is moving northwest at 25 km/h.
The storm is expected to bring significant rainfall to various regions. Cagayan is projected to experience
moderate to heavy rain today, with heavy to intense rain forecast for tomorrow. Other areas in Cagayan
Valley, as well as parts of Ilocos Norte and Apayao, will also see rainfall as Marce approaches.
In terms of wind signals, several areas in Northern Luzon have been placed under Signal No. 1, with
stronger winds expected in Batanes, Cagayan, and parts of Isabela. The storm may reach its peak
intensity before making landfall in the Babuyan Islands or northern mainland Cagayan later this week.
Conditions at sea are also expected to worsen, with very rough waves reaching up to 4.5 meters in
certain areas, posing risks to all vessels. Marce is the 13th tropical cyclone to enter the Philippines this
year, and it is projected to exit the Philippine Area of Responsibility by Friday.
We’ll continue to monitor the situation closely and keep you updated. This is ________, reporting for
