INTRODUCTION OF INDUSTRY
PAGE NO:4
The production of Total Major Chemicals and Petrochemicals in 2019-20 (up to September
2019) was 13,871 thousand MT. Total Chemicals and Petrochemicals registered a CAGR of
4.78% in production during the period 2014-15 to 2018-19. The current per capita
consumption of chemical products in India is one-tenths of the global average indicating that
demand has potential to grow due to rising population, and increasing disposable income.
The demand for credit in India’s Chemicals sector is largely dependent on bank credit due to
its capital-intensive nature of operations. As of FY20, the metals sector contributes 6.4% or
USD 27 billion (INR 2,056.6 billion) of the total credit outstanding under Industrial category
in India. Furthermore, Chemical sector has a Gross NPA of 6.9% of total advances during
FY-20, which is the lowest among the total industrial credit in India during the same period.
Good repayment track and the healthy overall total shareholder returns, along with large
capacity addition plans on account of lower tax and the Government policy support bode well
for the bank credit growth towards Indian chemicals industry.
Sodium hydroxide, also known as lye and caustic soda,[1][2] is an inorganic compound with
the formula NaOH. It is a white solid ionic compound consisting of sodium cations Na+ and
hydroxide anions OH.
As one of the simplest hydroxides, sodium hydroxide is frequently utilized alongside neutral
water and acidic hydrochloric acid to demonstrate the pH scale to chemistry students.
PAGE NO:5
Chemicals made on the largest of scales are made in a few manufacturing locations
around the world, for example in Texas and Louisiana along the Gulf Coast of the
United States, on Teesside (United Kingdom), and in Rotterdam in the Netherlands.
The large-scale manufacturing locations often have clusters of manufacturing units
that share utilities and large-scale infrastructure such as power stations, port facilities,
road and rail terminals. To demonstrate the clustering and integration mentioned
above, some 50% of the United Kingdom's petrochemical and commodity chemicals
are produced by the Northeast of England Process Industry Cluster on Teesside.
Specialty chemical and fine chemical manufacturing are mostly made in discrete
batch processes. These manufacturers are often found in similar locations but in many
cases, they are to be found in multi sector business parks.
In the U.S. there are 170 major chemical companies. They operate internationally
with more than 2,800 facilities outside the U.S. and 1,700 foreign subsidiaries or
affiliates operating. The U.S. chemical output is $750 billion a year. The U.S. industry
records large trade surpluses and employs more than a million people in the United
States alone. The chemical industry is also the second largest consumer of energy in
manufacturing and spends over $5 billion annually on pollution abatement.
In Europe, the chemical, plastics, and rubber sectors are among the largest industrial
sectors. [citation needed] Together they generate about 3.2 million jobs in more than
60,000 companies. Since 2000 the chemical sector alone has represented 2/3 of the
entire manufacturing trade surplus of the EU.
In 2012, the chemical sector accounted for 12% of the EU manufacturing industry's
added value. Europe remains world's biggest chemical trading region with 43% of the
world's exports and 37% of the world's imports, although the latest data shows that
Asia is catching up with 34% of the exports and 37% of imports. Even so, Europe still
has a trading surplus with all regions of the world except Japan and China where in
2011 there was a chemical trade balance. Europe's trade surplus with the rest of the
world today amounts to 41.7 billion Euros.
PAGE NO:6
Over the 20 years between 1991 and 2011, the European Chemical industry saw its
sales increase 295 billion Euros to 539 billion Euros, a picture of constant growth.
Despite this, the European industry's share of the world chemical market has fallen
from 36% to 20%. This has resulted from the huge increase production and sales in
the emerging markets like India and China
The data suggest that 95% of this impact is from China alone. In 2012 the data from
the European Chemical Industry Council shows that five European countries account
for 71% of the EU's chemicals sales. These are Germany, France, United Kingdom,
Italy and the Netherlands.
The chemical industry has seen growth in China, India, Korea, the Middle East, South
East Asia, Nigeria and Brazil. The growth is driven by changes in feedstock
availability and price, labor and energy costs, differential rates of economic growth
and environmental pressures.
At India Level:
The Indian chemical industry produces 80,000 different chemical products. India was
also the third largest producer of plastic in 2019. As of September 2019, the alkali
chemical industry produced 71% of all chemicals produced in India.
PAGE NO:7
At Gujarat Level:
Gujarat State Fertilizers & Chemicals Limited (GSFC) is an Indian manufacturer of

The company is listed on the Bombay Stock Exchange with the Security Code
500690, and as at 7 August 2021, it had a market capitalization of Rs 4840 crore.
GSFC maintains its headquarters in Vadodara in the state of Gujarat, on the
Ahmedabad Vadodara Expressway. Its manufacturers plastics, nylons, fibers,
industrial gases and varied chemicals including urea, ammonia, ammonium sulfate,
sulfuric acid, phosphoric acid & diammonium phosphate, Caprolactam, Melamine,
Methanol.

setting up a plant in Bharuch which trades as Gujarat Narmada Valley Fertilizers &
Chemicals Limited.

Chemical Industries are the prime factors to convert the raw materials into desired
products that we use in our day-to-day life. This has brought a tremendous change in
the way the things operate. It is very important for us to understand the importance of
the chemical industry which has touched all our facets of life like Agriculture,
Environment, Food, Hygiene, Décor, and Transportation …etc. It has also
significantly used in re-cycling industries to curb the usage of virgin products. Re-
cycling helps a lot in utilizing the waste materials, and gives one more life-cycle for
the products.
Chemicals play a major role in our food. The preservatives, taste enhancers and flavors help
the food to be palatable and increase the shelf life. Food Industry thrives for the reason, that
the preservatives not only help them to maintain the quality of the food, but also helps them to
import food to different parts of the world.

There were not many problems faced by me but due monsoon season few days I could
not reach the company and that did stop my work.
I did not get much chance to meet the Head of the departments and I hardly got
chance to interact with them because most of the time they were busy with their work
and meetings.
It was very difficult to get information from the department heads and the employees
did not have the permission to give information.
Security of the company is very strict and does not allow any visitor to go inside the
company without the permission.
I was told to wait in waiting area till the department heads comes to company and if
they are in meeting then I had to wait for hours.
It was really difficult to get information from the departments as they where not
giving me much information.
I could have done one thing that should have done more interaction with department
