COMPREHENSION AND SUMMARY
1. Read the following passage carefully and then answer questions which follow:
My uncle’s farm is on the large field of abundant green grass. It is within the
boundaries of gentle slopping hills. Looking far into the horizon, the clear blue sky
seems to meet the green pastures. There are no tall buildings. There is no sadness.
The farm is very peaceful. Whenever I visit the farm, I wake up early in the morning
every day just to watch the sunrise. The sun chases away any hint of sadness. It
lights up the surroundings and seems to breathe life into the farm. A clear stream
passes through the farm. It is water which gives a beautiful sound as they pass
through the farm. Listening to the water flow, one could fall asleep right by the river
bank.
My uncle has many cattle, sheep, goats and donkey. Three young men herd them. All
of his livestock are in good health. They are first taken to the stream from where they
drink enough water. The donkey usually drinks a lot of water before they leave the
stream. Any news of raids or attack on the animals is reported immediately to my
uncle by one of the herdsmen. My uncle’s farm has a lot of equipment. The farms
where he grows various crops for sale and for use at home are far from the main
house. They are also very large. He therefor, requires a vehicle to get him and many
big tractors to dig the land.
In the main house, my uncle keeps a lot of furniture in the sitting room. He gets
many visitors in a day. In his bedroom, he keeps les furniture. Other than a bed, he
has a little else in there. He says that the bedroom is a place to relax and not to
entertain. We plenty of things to do when we visit our uncle. We help him in farm by
doing a few tasks like, weeding, we also help the herders with the livestock. When we
do this, we carry some breads to eat and plenty of water to drink when we get hungry
and thirsty.
The best part about my uncle’s farm, however, is my uncle company. He is the
greatest man I know. I admire his strength and determination. He is tall and slender
man. He does not walk with a cane even though he is almost 80 years old. His back
is straight and appears steady. The wrinkles on his dark face do not make look old,
they seem to tell all who look at him that he is now wiser. His white hair and
twinkling eyes reminding me of the South African leader Nelson Mandela. My uncle is
also very kind. He helps all those who work for him whenever they need help. I feel
very lucky to have him in my life.

2. Read and summarize the following passage by giving out five solutions towards road
accidents.
Road accidents cause loss of life and properties, passengers are seriously
injured some lose important organs of the bodies like the legs, hand and the heads,
on the other hand the cars are severely damaged. Other damages include the
destruction of road lights signs, some vehicles are completely crushed.
Measures to reduce the rate of accidents should be put into action like,
installation of road signs, the drivers who break the road safety regulations should be
severely punished. Speed governors should be used. Also people to be educated
about road safety. Drivers should be skilled by having licenses and traffic officer
should inspect all cars and buses.
Generally speaking, cars have become dangerous by taking away people’s life
maliciously when accidents occur. I am airing out the opinion that road safety
education should be given the same emphasis as AIDS and COVID19 educations.
