INTRODUCTION
A high pass filter is an electronic filter that passes signals with a higher frequencies than a certain cutoff
frequency and attenuates frequencies lower than that cutoff frequency.

REQUIREMENTS
RSEISTOR (2200 OHMS)
CAPACITOR (10 NANO FARADS)
BREAD BOARD
AC PULSE GENERATOR
OSCILLOSCOPE
WIRES FOR BREAD BOARD
PROCEDURE
2 wires are connected to the life and neutral lines of the breadboard. They’ll act as the
supply.
One pin of the 10nF capacitor is connected to the live and the 2nd pin is placed into the
breadboard.
The resistor is then connected in series with the capacitor, the 2nd pin of the resistor is
then connected to the ground.
The AC pulse generator is plugged in to a voltage source, and it is then connected to the
supply of the high pass filter.
The oscilloscope is also plugged in and one of its ports is connected to the supply of the
filter while the 2nd port is connected to the output of filter.
A cut off frequency of 7.234KH is used in the AC pulse generator to supply the filter.
The input voltage Vin is set at 2V and the output voltage is read on the oscilloscope.
The picture below shows the connections done in the lab
DATA COLLECTION
The table below was formed using the value of Vin and the various values of Vout at the various
frequencies of Fc = 7234Hz, 0.1Fc and 10Fc
Vin (V) Frequency (Hz) Vout H(w)
2.16 7234 21.6mV 0.01
2.21 723.4 3.2mV 0.001
2.20 72340 72mV 0.03
The various pictures shows the data seen and recorded on the oscilloscope.
• For a frequency of Fc = 7234Hz, the oscilloscope displayed
• For the frequency of 0.1Fc, the oscilloscope displayed
• For the frequency of 10fc, the oscilloscope displayed
CALCULATIONS
The phase shift of the output waveform relative to the input waveform was calculated
using the formula 90-arctan(WRC)
The Gain margin was calculated using the formula 20log(H(w)).
Vin (V) Frequency (Hz) Vout H(w) Phase shift Gain in dB
2.16 7234 21.6mV 0.01 45° -40
2.21 723.4 3.2mV 0.001 84.29° -60
2.20 72340 72mV 0.03 5.71° -30.45

Diagram of phase margin against Frequency
CONCLUSION
For a high pass filter, As the frequency moves towards positive infinity, the frequency responds
turns to 1, this also goes for the Gain, but for the phase margin, as the frequency goes towards
infinity, the phase margin decreases to zero
