I. Objectives

At the end of 45-minute class discussion, the Grade 3 pupils should be able to:

 Identify the verb.


 Give examples of an action word, and
 Use a verb in a sentence.

II. Subject Matter

Reference: English 3 Curriculum Guide, Quarter 2. EN3WC-la-j-4
Materials: PowerPoint, laptop, chalkboard

A. Preliminary Activities

Prayer

Everybody, stand up and let us pray.


Please lead the prayer. (The students will stand up and pray.)

Greetings
Good morning class!
All: Good morning, Teacher!

Before you take your seat, kindly arrange (The students will arrange their chair and
your chair properly and clean your space. clean their trash.)

Attendance

First, let us check your attendance. Is there


any absent today?
All: None, Ma’am!
Very Good!
We have a perfect attendance today.

Setting of Class Standards

Before we begin our lesson for today, let


me remind you of our classroom rules.

First, what would you do if the teacher is


discussing in front of the class?

Yes, class?
Student A: We should listen carefully,
Very Good! If anyone is talking or Ma’am.
discussing, we should listen carefully and
avoid talking too.

Second, what will you do if you want to


answer a question?

Motivation
But before we move on to our next topic,
let us first watch the video.

Now, let’s look to the pictures.

Take a look at these pictures. In the first


picture, what did the girl do?

(Teacher writes the word “sing” on the
board.) Student B: The girl is singing.

In the second picture, what did the boy do?

Correct! We can see in the picture that the Student C: The boy is running,
boy is running.
(Teacher writes the word “run” on the
board.)

Now let us know what is a verb.

a. Establishing a purpose for a lesson
Okay, before we continue, let us first know
the objectives that you need to achieve at
the end of our lesson.
We need to know the meaning of a verb
and how should we use it in a sentence
properly.

b. Discussion
Now, let’s read about what a verb is.

ALL: A verb is a word used to describe an


action.

Very Good! Verbs are action words that


tells us what’s happening in a sentence.
They can be the things that we do everyday
like running, walking, reading and eating.
Now, these are examples of verbs.

So, let’s read it all together?

Fantastic!
Yes, these verbs are the action words or All: Jump sing run climb build
word that tells the action. cook give wash speak clean
drive swim
Now, who among you can give another
example of a verb that tells the action?

Yes? Student C: walk.

Very Good!

Who else can give another example?


Student D: talk

Correct! Talk is an example a verb because


it tells action.

Now, let’s read this sentence all together.

Elsa closed the gate. All: Elsa closed the gate


Jerome cleans the bathroom. Jerome cleans the bathroom.

Alright! Each sentence has a verb in it.


Now, who among you can tell me what the
verb is in the first sentence?

Anyone, class? Student E: The verb in the first sentence is


closed.
Very Good]!

How about in the second sentence?

Student D: The verb in the second sentence


is cleans.
Correct!
Generalization

Now, have you learned something about


our lesson for today? ALL: Yes Ma’am!

If yes, what have you learned? What did


we tackle today? Student A: I have learned the action word. A
verb.

Well done!
Again, what is a verb? Student B: A verb is a word use to describe
an action.
Very good! Another big five claps for
student B!
Next, who can give me an example of a
verb?
Yes, class? Student C: hide

Very Good! Give her 5 big claps too!


How about we use some verbs in a
sentence? Who can give me an example? Student E: I play volleyball.

Correct! Can we have a 5 big claps to


student E? Very good! Student F: I watch a video.
Who else?

Alright! Another 5 big claps for Student F.

Again, verbs are the words that tells action.


It helps us to understand what is happening
in a sentence, in a picture or video.
