• It is ALWAYS recommended that you read through a pattern completely before beginning it to ensure you understand the
technique and the piecing.
• When cutting, it is recommended you cut large to small to make the best use of all fabrics.
• Fabrics are assumed a usable 40” wide (after selvedges are removed).
• I recommend pressing all seams open for the best block possible.
• Seams are ¼”. • RST = Right Sides Together • Strips = WOF (Width of Fabric)

Step 1
1. Place (1) Fabric A 3 ¼” square right sides together (RST) with one Fabric B 3 ¼” square. Draw a line corner to
corner. Stitch with ¼” seam allowance on each side of the drawn line. Cut along the center diagonal line. Repeat
to make FOUR A/B HST. Trim each HST to 2 ¾” square.

2. Repeat Step 1 with (4) Fabric A 3 ¼” squares and (4) Fabric C 3 ¼” squares to make EIGHT A/C HST.

Step 3
3. Sew (1) Fabric A 1 ¼” x 2 ¾” rectangle to the top of (1) Fabric E 1 ¼” x 2 ¾” rectangle. Sew the A/E unit to the
top of (1) Fabric D 1 ¼” x 2 ¾’ rectangle. Repeat to make FOUR A/E/D units. Each unit should measure 2 ¾”
square.

6. Using the diagram above as a guide, lay out all of the units created in Steps 1 – 5, as well as the Fabric A and B
2 ¾” squares. Pay careful attention to the orientation of each unit.

7. Using the diagram above as a guide, sew the units together. I show the center units sewn together first, and
then the outside HST and squares sewn together. You can choose that approach, or you can sew the units
together into vertical or horizontal rows. Choose the method that works best for you!

8. Sew the Fabric B 1” x 11 ½” rectangles to the left and right of the block center. Sew the Fabric B 1” x 12 ½”
rectangles to the top and bottom of the block center. Your block is complete! It should measure 12 ½” x 12 ½”
square.
