Method Statement for Installation of

Reverse Osmosis (RO) System

1. Scope of Work
This method statement covers the detailed procedures for the installation of a complete
Reverse Osmosis (RO) water treatment system, including all civil, mechanical, and electrical
activities. Components include:
- Raw water tank
- Raw water and high-pressure pumps
- Multimedia filter (MMF)
- Cartridge filter
- RO membrane housings and elements
- Product and reject water lines
- Associated valves, instrumentation, and control systems

2. Equipment and Materials Required

Equipment/Item Description
Raw Water Tank HDPE/GRP tank with level indicator, vent,
drain, and manhole.
Raw Water Pump Centrifugal or vertical inline pump,
SS304/316 construction.
Multimedia Filter (MMF) FRP or steel pressure vessel filled with
gravel and silica sand.
Cartridge Filter Polypropylene 5–20 micron cartridge
filters with SS housing.
High-Pressure Pump Multistage pump capable of producing
>200 psi, SS316 wetted parts.
RO Membrane Vessels FRP pressure-rated housings for spiral
wound membranes.
RO Membranes Thin-film composite membranes with
>98% salt rejection.
Product & Reject Lines uPVC/SS/HDPE piping with appropriate
pressure ratings.
Instrumentation Pressure gauges, flow meters, conductivity
sensors.
Chemical Dosing System Antiscalant, pH adjuster, and CIP system
with dosing pumps.
Electrical Control Panel Includes VFDs, PLC/relay logic, motor
starters, and HMI.
Foundation Pads RCC pads or galvanized skids with
vibration isolators.
3. Tools Required
- Pipe wrenches, spanners, socket sets
- Electric drill, grinders, cutting tools
- Pipe fusion/threading machines
- Lifting equipment (chain pulley, crane)
- Pressure test pump and manometer
- Multimeter and insulation resistance tester
- Welding and fabrication tools

4. Installation Methodology

4.1 Site Preparation

Ensure civil foundations are complete, levelled, and as per layout. Verify utilities (power,
water, drains) are ready.

4.2 Equipment Placement

Position raw water tank, MMF, cartridge filter, RO skid, and product tank. Use lifting gear for
heavy equipment. Align and secure using anchor bolts.

4.3 Piping Installation

Install all interconnecting pipes: raw tank to pump, pump to MMF, MMF to cartridge filter,
cartridge to high-pressure pump, then to RO. Use unions/flanges for flexibility. Provide
isolating valves.

4.4 Electrical Installation

Install control panel in accessible, ventilated location. Connect motors, probes, sensors.
Ensure earthing is done. Verify phase sequence and power supply.

4.5 Instrumentation & Dosing

Install inline pressure gauges (before/after each component), flow meters on permeate and
reject, conductivity sensor after RO. Connect dosing pumps with suction/delivery tubing to
respective tanks.

4.6 Testing & Commissioning

Flush pipelines and vessels. Conduct hydrotest on piping. Energize control panel and test
pump rotation. Start up system: fill tanks, operate pumps, test valves and sensors. Introduce
water to RO membranes gradually, record flow, pressure, and TDS.

5. Safety Precautions
- Use full PPE: gloves, goggles, hard hats, safety boots
- Follow lock-out/tag-out procedure during electrical connections
- Use proper lifting tools and ensure secure rigging
- Handle chemicals (antiscalant, cleaners) with appropriate MSDS
- Ensure electrical work is performed by certified technicians

6. Quality Assurance and Documentation

- Verify each component against approved datasheets
- Conduct inspection and testing reports for piping and electrical works
- Maintain commissioning checklist
- Record operational parameters (flow, pressure, TDS) during trial run
- Submit O&M manuals and as-built drawings
- Provide customer training for daily operation and maintenance
