USING MS PROJECT, SCHEDULE THE CONSTRUCTION PROJECT

PLANNING
1. Introduction
This report outlines the planning and scheduling approach used for the "Residential Building
Construction Project," developed using Microsoft Project. The schedule serves as the primary tool for
organizing and tracking all tasks, resources, and milestones required to complete the project efficiently
and within scope.

Schedule the construction project

STEP 1: Open Microsoft Project

 Launch MS Project
 Click on “File” → “New” → “Blank Project”
STEP 2: Set the Project Start Date
 Go to “Project” → “Project Information”
 In the dialog box:
 Set the Start Date (e.g., May 1, 2025)
 Click OK

STEP 3: Enter Tasks

 Go to the Gantt Chart View (this is the default view)
 Under the Task Name column, type in your tasks one by one:
 Site Preparation
 Excavation
 Foundation
 Roofing, etc.
STEP 4: Set Durations
 In the Duration column next to each task, enter the time needed:

Example: Foundation → “10 days”, Roofing → “5 days”

STEP 5: Link Tasks (Set Dependencies)
 In the Predecessors column, define what task must finish before the next begins.
STEP 6: Assign Resources (Optional)
 Go to View → Resource Sheet
 Add resources (workers, equipment)
 Then go back to Gantt Chart and use the Resource Names column to assign them
STEP 7: Save and Set a Baseline (Optional but Recommended)
 Go to Project → Set Baseline → Set Baseline → Entire Project
 This saves your planned schedule for later comparison as actual progress is made

STEP 8: Create a Report

 Report Tab → Dashboard → Project Overview
 Task status (e.g., % Complete)
 Project start and finish
 Active/late tasks
 Milestones
 Gantt summary
