1. The area of a rectangular garden 80m long is 3200 sq.m. Find the width of the garden.
Solution :
Given : length = 80 m, Area = 3200 sq.m
Area of the rectangle = length x breadth
area
breadth =
length
3200
=
= 40 m
8
Width of the garden = 40 m
2. Find the cost of fencing a square flower garden of side 50 m at the rate of Rs. 10 per meter
Solution :
Given the side of the flower garden = 50 m
For finding the cost of fencing, we need to find the total length of the boundary (perimeter)
and then m ultiply it by the rate of fencing.
Perimeter of the square flower garden = 4 x side
= 4 x 50
= 200 m
cost of fencing 1 m = Rs. 10 (given)
 cost of fencing 200 m = Rs. 10 x 200
= Rs. 2000

3. Area of a triangular garden is 800 sq.m. The height of the garden is 40 m. Find the base length
of the garden.
Solution :
Area of the triangular garden = 800 sq.m (given)
1
bh = 800
2
1
 b  40 = 800  h  40 
2
20 b = 800
b = 40 m
 Base of the garden is 40 m
4. A plot of land is in the form of a quadrilateral, where one of its diagonals is 200 m long. The
two vertices on either side of this diagonals are 60 m and 50 m away from the diagonal. What is
the area of the plot of land?
Solution
given d = 200 m, h = m, h = 60 m
1
Area of the quadrilateral ABCD =  d  (h1  h2 )
2
1
=  200  (50  60)
2
= 100 x 110
 Area of the quadrilateral = 11000 m2
5. Find out the circumference of a circle whose diameter is 21 cm

= 66 cm.
6. The circumference of a circular field is 44 m. A cow is tethered to a peg at the center of the
field. If the cow can graze a entire field, find the length of the rope used to tie the cow.
Solution :
Length of the rope = Radius of the circle
Circumference = 44 m (given)
i.e., 2πr = 44
22
2x  r = 44
7
44  7
r = = 7m
2  22
The length of the rope used to tie the cow 7 m.

7. A wire of length 88 cm is bend as a circle. What is the radius of the circle.

Solution :
Length of the wire = 88 cm
Circumference of the circle = Length of the wire
2πr = 88
22
2x  r = 88
7
88  7
r = = 14 cm
2  22
radius of a circle is 14 cm
8. The adjoining figure shows two concentric circles. The radius of the
larger circle is 14 cm and the smaller circle is 7 cm. Find
1. The area of the larger circle
2. The area of the smaller circle
3. The area of the shaded region between two circles..
Solution :
1. Larger circle 2. Smaller circle
R = 14 r=7
2
area = πR area = πr2
22 22
=  14  14 = 77
7 7
= 22 x 28 = 22 x 7
2
= 616 cm = 154 cm2
3. The area of the shaded region
= (Area of larger circle) – (Area of smaller circle)
= (616 – 154) = 462 cm2
9. A circular flower garden has an area 500 m2. A sprinkler at the centre of the garden can cover
an area that has a radius of 12 m. Will the sprinkler water the entire garden (Take π = 3.14)
Solution :
Given , area of the garden = 500 m2
Area covered by a sprinkler = πr2
= 3.14 x 12 x 12
= 3.14 x 144
= 452.16 m2
Since, the area covered by a sprinkler is less than the area of the circular flower garden, the
sprinkler cannot water the entire garden.
