Hello everyone,
My name is Nick Mulzoff. I’m 33 years old, have been married to my wife Ariel since 2012, we
have a daughter Patricia (Born March 2016), and we’re expecting a son at the end of the month. I’m a
Marine Veteran of eight years, three of which were spent as a Marine Security Guard (MSG) where I
guarded our embassies overseas. Currently I am a Contractor for the federal government. The work is
pretty good, with good pay, and I get about 6 months off a year (2-3 months of work with 2-3 months
off) to spend with my family. My first job out of the Marines had me working 84-90 hours a week, so
even though I am away for half the year I still get more time with them than I had before. I’m looking
into a career in law enforcement, primarily with CBP. My wife is a Social worker with Hope for the
Warriors, a nonprofit that aims at helping post 9-11 combat vets.
I live on Long Island NY when I’m not deployed, but we are working on our house in upstate NY
where we own 33 acres and hope to move in there within the next few years. My hobbies include
Hiking, Camping, backpacking (My wife and I like to do pretty much anything outdoors), shooting,
woodworking, amateur gunsmithing, computer building, gardening, and various DIY projects. I just
recently helped my dad fix up his shop in his basement and bought him all new tools so we can do
projects down there while I’m home. Also because he lost his leg and sits in the living room smoking
cigarettes and watching the SyFy channel all day long, so I figured tricking him into rekindling an old
hobby of his might be good for him.
I suppose I could be considered somewhat of a prepper. I generally like to be self-sufficient so I
ensure that I have a surplus, and renewable source, of food, ammunition, medicine, and some grid-
independent means of providing myself with water and power. I’m also currently looking into getting my
HAM license. Not to build and play around on radios, but to legally obtain and do some familiarization
with them for emergency uses.
I’m taking this course as part of my degree in Homeland Security. I hope that this concentration
will help me in my career as it has aspects of criminal justice, anti-terrorism, and emergency
preparedness areas which are applicable to all levels of law enforcement. This course specifically will be
beneficial to me should I get into CBP because one of the main missions of CBP is preventing terrorism,
and the course covers international terrorism, international cooperation concerning terrorism, and
issues with counter-terrorism.
I have read the course Rubric, Syllabus, and the Introductory E-mail.
