Introduction

Polar bears are marine mammals that live primarily in the Arctic region.
They rely on sea ice for survival, using it to hunt, breed, and travel.

1. Characteristics
✅ Size:
Polar bears are one of the largest land carnivores. Adult males weigh
900–1,600 lbs (410–720 kg) and grow 7–10 feet (2.1–3 meters) in
length.
"That equals approximately 2.1 to 3 meters."
✅ Fur & Camouflage:
Their thick, water-repellent fur appears white but is actually transparent,
helping them blend into the snow.
✅ Fat Layer & Insulation:
A thick fat layer keeps them warm and helps them float while
swimming.
✅ Large Paws for Survival:
Their paws, up to 12 inches (30 cm) wide, help distribute weight on ice
and improve swimming ability.

2. Geographic Range and Habitat of Polar Bears:

They are found in Canada (home to about 60% of the world's polar
bears), Alaska (USA), Greenland (Denmark), Russia, and Norway
(Svalbard).
Polar live in the Arctic region, primarily on sea ice. Their habitat
includes:
+ Sea ice: Essential for hunting seals, their main food source. They
prefer areas with shifting ice and open water where seals surface to
breathe.
+ Coastal areas: During the summer, when sea ice melts, some polar
bears move to Arctic coastlines and islands.
+ Tundra: In some regions, polar bears travel inland when ice is
unavailable, though they struggle to find food there.

Conclusion
Polar bears depend on sea ice for survival. However, climate change and
melting ice threaten their habitat. Understanding their behavior and
environment is crucial for conservation efforts.
