Guidelines for Bench Cheer Contest
1. Eligibility:
o Participants must be part of a specific team, class, or group.
o The team should have a set number of participants (e.g.,
minimum 30, maximum 50) depending on the contest rules.
2. Theme and Choreography:
o The routine should align with a given theme (parade of colors) or
focus on promoting team spirit.
o Movements must be original and creative.
o Synchronization and formation changes will be evaluated.
3. Duration:
o The performance must fit within a time limit, usually 3-5 minutes.
o Teams exceeding the time limit may be subject to deductions.
4. Cheer and Chant:
o Teams must include a cheer that encourages crowd participation.
o Chants should be clear, catchy, and easy to follow.
o Avoid offensive language or inappropriate themes.
5. Costumes and Props:
o Uniforms or costumes should be aligned with the theme.
o Simple, safe, and non-distracting props may be used (e.g., pom-
poms, banners).
6. Music:
o Teams are allowed to use pre-approved background music or
they can use musical instruments appropriate for the
presentation.
o Music selections must be appropriate for all audiences.
o Music must not contain explicit content or offensive lyrics.
7. Safety:
o Dangerous stunts are not allowed in the competition.
o Judges will deduct points for unsafe practices.
o Teams must ensure the safety of each member.
8. Judging Criteria:
o Creativity and Originality (20%): Freshness of the routine,
cheers, and formations.
o Team Spirit (15%): Crowd engagement, enthusiasm, and
energy.
o Synchronization (25%): Timing and coordination among team
members.
o Execution (25%): Precision of movements and stunts.
o Overall Impact (15%): How well the performance captures the
essence of cheerleading and its effectiveness.
9. Conduct:
o Participants must exhibit sportsmanship before, during, and after
the competition.
o Misconduct or violations of the rules can lead to disqualification.
10. Penalties and Disqualification:
o Points may be deducted for exceeding the time limit,
inappropriate costumes, or unsportsmanlike behavior.
o Teams can be disqualified for not following safety protocols or for
inappropriate behavior.
Mechanics of the Contest:
1. Registration:
o Teams must submit the list of the group to committee
o Provide necessary information (team name, number of
participants, contact details).
2. Order of Performance:
o Teams will be randomly assigned performance slots.
o The order will be released a few days before the contest.
3. Pre-performance Preparation:
o Teams will be given a designated area to prepare.
o Sound checks and rehearsals might be allowed, depending on
the organizer’s schedule.
4. Performance:
o Teams will be called to perform according to their assigned
order.
o Ensure compliance with time limits.
5. Awarding:
o Awards may be given for Best Cheer, Best Costume, Best
Choreography, and Overall Champion.
o Additional awards for crowd favorites or spirit awards may also
be included.
