CLASS 10- CHAPTER – ARITHMETIC PROGRESSIONS
DPP -1
Q.1 Which of the following sequences are A.P.s? If they form an A.P., find the common
difference d and write the next three terms:
(a) 2, 4, 8, 16
(b) -3, -1, 1, 3, 5
(c) 3, 3 + √2, 3 + 2√2, 3 + 3√2
Q.2 Write the first four terms of the A.P. when the first term a and the common difference
d are given as:
(a) a = 10, d = 10
(b) a = -2, d = 0
(c) a = 4, d = -3
Q.3. In the following APs, find the missing term(s):
(a) 2, __, 26
(b) __, 13, __, 3
(c) -8, __, __, 4
Q.4. Find the 10th term of the AP: 2, 7, 12, 17, ...
Q.5. Which term of the AP: 3, 8, 13, 18, ... is 78?
Q.6. Find the number of terms in the AP: 7, 13, 19, ..., 205
Q.7. Find the sum of the first 20 terms of the AP:
2, 7, 12, 17, ...
Q.8. How many terms of the AP: 9, 17, 25, ... must be taken to give a sum of 636?
Q.9 A sum of Rs. 1000 is invested at 8% simple interest per year. Calculate the
interest at the end of each year. Do these interests form an AP? If so, find the interest at
the end of 30 years making use of this fact.
Q.10 A manufacturer of TV sets produced 600 sets in the third year and 700
sets in the seventh year. Assuming that the production increases uniformly by a fixed
number every year, find :
(i) the production in the 1st year (ii) the production in the 10th year
(iii) the total production in first 7 years

1. Show that (a – b)², (a² + b²) and (a + b)² are in AP.
2. Find the common difference of the Arithmetic Progression (AP)
(1/a), (3 – a)/3a, (3 – 2a)/3a,… (a ≠ 0)
3. Which term of the Arithmetic Progression -7, -12, -17, -22,… will be -82? Is -100
any term of the AP? Give a reason for your answer.
4. How many terms of the Arithmetic Progression 45, 39, 33,… must be taken so
that their sum is 180? Explain the double answer.
5. In an AP, if the common difference (d) = -4, and the seventh term (a7) is 4, then
find the first term.
6. The sum of four consecutive numbers in an AP is 32 and the ratio of the product
of the first and the last term to the product of two middle terms is 7 : 15. Find
the numbers.
7. What is the common difference of an A.P. in which a21 – a7 = 84?
8. Which term of the progression 20, 19 ¼, 18 ½, 17 ¾,… is the first negative
term?
9. If the ratio of the sum of the first n terms of two APs is (7n + 1) : (4n + 27), then
find the ratio of their 9th terms.
10. The 4th term of an AP is zero. Prove that the 25th term of the AP is three
times its 11th term.
