1. Read the following quote, “But the two or three people of whom I asked his whereabouts
stared at me in such an amazed way…” What does this show about Gatsby?
This shows that Gatsby must not introduce himself to his guest and it’s a rarity to know him.

2. What does this sentence mean? “A tray of cocktails floated at us through the twilight, and we
sat down at a table with the two girls in yellow and three men, each one introduced to us as Mr.
Mumble.”
This shows us that there was so much alcohol at the party that, they were all drunk, they were
mumbling.

Gatsby lives in the West Egg, which is new money but he is known for his elaborate parties but
nothing more, no one knows what he does or where he comes from it’s all rumours. So Gatsby’s

parties there isn’t any privacy.” Explain how this could be.

small party, everyone is usually very accounted for and you never lose track of what’s going on
and who’s doing what.

Gatsby was speeding and he showed the officer a white card, so the officer left him alone for
speeding because it shows that he is in good terms with the police and cannot be punished.

mean?
This means that anything can happen because they are in the land of money and there’s so
much possibility.
6. What happened to Rosy Rosenthal? Why would this information be revealed to the reader?
Rosy Rosenthal was shot by gangsters outside the old Metropole after he was warned not to go
