Carpentry is one of the oldest skilled trades and is still widely required in modern
construction. It involves the cutting, shaping and installation of wood (timber) for
buildings and other structures. Carpentry is often part of the ‘first fix' of timber
components in the construction of roofs, floors, walls and other timber-framed
constructions. It is also often part of ‘second fix' works, such as the construction of
skirting boards, architraves, doors, and so on. Carpenters may also require to prepare

What do you need to know?

Having the right tool is imperative to the successful completion of the task at
hand. In addition, the right tools allow workers to complete their tasks efficiently, which
affords workers opportunities to expand their range of capabilities. Each tool is
precisely designed for a specific purpose, so choosing the correct tool will also
decrease the amount of effort required to get a job done right without causing
damage to either the equipment or the surface being worked on.
