CLASSROOM PRELIMINARIES

The teacher will start the following class routines:

o Greetings
o Leading the opening prayer.
o Checking of the attendance.
o Preparing the classroom for a clean-up activity.

I. ACTIVITY

Purpose: Engage students' interest and activate prior knowledge about mathematical systems.

Activities:

Introduction with a Real-World Example:

 Start by asking: “When you were it a past grade level, do you remember tackling concepts like points, lines and
planes?
 Provide relatable real life examples where points, lines, and planes are present.

What are the points, lines and planes?

POINTS: Tip of pen, Sesame seed, and Tip of arrow

LINES: Ruler, edge of the table, and rope

PLANES: Paper, and blackboard

 Lead a discussion to explain that these components are fundamental in geometry and are called undefined terms
because they are the starting points for defining all other geometric concepts.

 To have a better understanding we have 4 parts of mathematical system let us discuss them one by one, but for
now lets discuss the undefined and defined terms.

II. ANALYSIS

Purpose: Explain the undefined terms and defined terms in mathematical system and how they fit
together.

"Today, we will be exploring the concept of a mathematical system. A mathematical system

consists of four essential parts that work together to create a logical and structured framework. These
parts include undefined terms, defined terms, axioms (or postulates), and theorems.
Understanding how these components interact will help us see how mathematical knowledge is built
and how we can use it to solve problems." But as I mentioned, we will discuss it one by one, focusing
on undefined terms and defined terms today.

Introduce and Explain Each Part of the Mathematical System:

1. Undefined Terms:

These are terms that do not need to be defined because they are the building blocks of the system. They are
intuitive and understood in a general sense. Examples include point, line, and plane in geometry.

 Point - A point represents a location and has no size or dimension

 Line - A line is a straight path of points extending infinitely in both directions, having no thickness.
 Plane - A plain is a flat, two dimensional surface that extends infinitely in all directions.

Lets analyzed this image and figure the point, line, and plane
2. Defined Terms:

These are terms that are defined using the undefined terms. It means terms that have a formal definition.
For example, in geometry:

Based on these two figures, how will you define collinear and non-collinear points?

 Collinear Points - are points that lie on the same line.

 Non-collinear points - are points that do not lie on the same line.

Lets talk about the coplanar points and non-coplanar points.

Based on these two figures, how will you define Coplanar points and non-coplaaar points?

 Coplanar points - are points that lie on the same plane

 Non-coplanar points - are points that do not lie in the same plane

Now lets proceed to subsets of line.

1. Line segment is a part of a line that has two endpoints and a finite length.
 Does not extend infinitely
 Can be measured since it has a fixed length

Example: The edge of the paper is a line segment because it has two distinct endpoints.
Question: Base on the image we see of the line segment, what do we call it?
Answer: Line segment AB or Line Segement BA

2. Ray is a part of line that starts at one end point and extends infinitely in one direction.
 Has no fixed endpoint.
 Cannot be measured as it extends endlessly in one direction.

Example : A flashlight beam represents a ray because it start at the bulb (endpoint) and travels outward
infinitely.

Question: In this illustration what should we name the ray? take note that rays can be named with its
endpoints first.
Answer: Ray AB

3. Opposite ray are two rays that share the same endpoint but extend in opposite directions, forming a
straight line.
 Share the same endpoint
 Always form a straight angle (180 degrees)

Example : If you stand at the middle of a straight road and point in both directions, the path in each
direction can represent opposite rays.

Question: based on this illustration what we call the opposite ray?

Answer: Opposite rays BA and Opposite rays BC

I Do We Do You Do Method
Lets try to answer this to see if you understood our topic today.

Questions:
1. Name all the points.
Point A,B,C, and D
2. Name all the lines using script letter.
Line Q,R,S,and V
3. What is other name for line V?
Line CD or Line DC
4. Using script letter, named a plan formed by the
four lines.
Plane P
5. Name the plane in three different ways using
three points.
Plane ABC, Plane BAD, Plane CDA

III. ABSTRACTION

To summarize the lesson, the teacher asks the student:

1. What is undefined terms?
2. How about defined terms?
3. Can you differentiate between a line segment, a ray, and opposite rays?
4. How do defined terms help us understand and solve real life problems?
IV. APPLICATION

PART I. Direction: Use the figure at the right, try to answer the following question.

1. How many planes are there in the figure? 6

2. How many planes contain B? 3
3. Name two lines that contain S. SE and SC
4. Name two points not on the plane CSE. A and D
5. Name the four points that are coplanar. B,C,E AND S

PART II. Direction: Draw and label a figure each condition

1. Plane PQR
2. Line segment DQ
3. Ray AB and Ray AM
4. Plane B contains line 3 but does not contain Z
5. Point Z lies on the Line AB

Assignment
Read and research about axioms and theorems
Write a brief explanation of each.

CLOSURE
Today, we have explored the concept of Mathematical system, focusing Undefined terms and defined
terms, and their meanings, We discussed how undefined terms, such as points, lines, and planes, serve as the
foundation in geometry. And we also examined how defined terms are constructed using these undefined
terms, and their importance in creating structured mathematical concepts.

I hope you gained valuable knowledge from our lesson today on the mathematical system. Good bye and god
bless.
