Evolution(Darwinism) was first proposed by Darwin in the origin of species,
published in 1859. The theory has been a household name in modern civilized society
for over one hundred and sixty years. The survival of the fittest is a great
generalization of Darwin's theory of evolution, which means that the evolution of
natural life is determined by natural selection. Since its birth, Evolution has been
criticized and opposed by a variety of creationists who believe in Creationism. This
debate has been in the west for more than decades of years, and there is no sign of an
end, and it seems that it will go on forever.
“Natural selection, the survival of the fittest.” From the perspective of modern
genetics, it is also easier to say: the evolution of creatures in nature is determined by
random genetic variations and random natural choices after variation. Evolution, of
course, is not just a natural choice. The evolution of a particular species can also be
determined by other options, such as artificial selection, and the typical example is the
thousands of dogs we now see. The theory of Creationism refers to the belief that all
things and life are created by supernatural or magical ways. In Christianity, for
example, the creationists believe that god created the world and everything in the
world six days of time: the first day, the god created the light and the darkness; The
next day, god created the sky; On the third day, god created dry land and plants; The
fourth day created the sun and the moon, and the fifth day created fish and birds, and
the sixth day created land animals and humans.
Creationism is basically about how the world came into being, and specifically
about living things, then creationism is about how living things came into being from
nothing. And evolution is basically about how the world develops, and in the case of
living things, evolution is about how species of living things come into being or how
species become diverse.
This is the essentially different, so to speak. That is to say, creationism and
evolution represent two very different points of view. It is generally believed that
creationism and evolution are contradictory. Because creationism emphasizes the
transcendental power, the decisive power of God; The theory of evolution emphasizes
the development of nature itself, that is, nature develops according to a certain law.
This also highlights the difference between the two.
However, the two sides of the contradiction must be dialectical unity. This
suggests that creationism and evolution not only have something different, but also
are related. Creationism and evolution are complementary. On the one hand,
creationism emphasizes creation while evolution emphasizes variation, so there is a
sequential connection between them, which makes the contradiction between them
not a life-or-death contradiction, but a sequential process connection. On the other
hand, creationism is more of a speculative description, while evolution is more of a
substantive description, that is to say, one of the two is empty, the other is more
concrete, so the two are complementary from this perspective. Of course, the above
points are mainly the difference and connection between the two from the point of
view. From the perspective of specific content, both creationism and evolution theory
have different emphases and various contents, so the contradiction and connection
between them are not easy to be seen. The conventional view is that creationism is
heavily religious, mostly superstitious; The theory of evolution is heavy on science,
mostly rational. However, this view is a narrow view, rather than a philosophical
dialectical view. Creationism can still be rational and evolution can still be
superstitious: both religion and science are biased, and placing a bias on either side is
not enough to see the world as a whole.
Moreover, with the development of the society, evolution is still criticized for its
application to other fields. This kind of problem is also a reason for the creation of
creationists to attack evolution, claiming that evolution can cause ethnic groups to see
and undermine social harmony. Unfortunately, they made a huge mistake -- to confuse
extreme pan-evolution with scientific evolution.
Undoubtedly, Evolution has made great difference in China. When Yan Fu firstly
translated TianYanLun written by Thomas Henry Huxley, who was an eminent British
naturalist and ardent defender of evolution, he was the first person to introduce the
theory of evolution to the Chinese, and immediately the stone stirred thousands of
waves, and greatly shocked Chinese intellectuals. Kang Youwei, always defiant, had
to admit that he had never seen such a book after reading the translation of Evolution
Theory, and praised it as "the first one in Western learning in China". One of his
students, Liang Qichao, read Yan Fu's translation and, before it was published, began
to propagate the theory of evolution and write articles based on it. After the official
publication of Evolution Theory in 1898, the theory of evolution were widely
accepted by Chinese ideological circles and academic circles with little challenge, and
taken as a theoretical basis to promote social reform. People like Sun Yat-sen and Lu
Xun were all advocates and advocates of the theory of evolution.
In short, the competition between creationism and evolution is a good real-world
example for studying the demarcation of science. Evolution theory has been pushed to
the boundary of science and become the forefront of the interaction between science
and religion because it is directly related to the record of God's creation in the Bible.
Evolution isn't the only example, though. Apart from the impact of heliocentric theory
on contemporary religious thought, the discovery of gravity also implied that "God
has no direct control over the fall of objects." We should be sure that there will still be
many realistic examples in the future, which will make us have to think about how to
view science and how to distinguish between science and non-science.
Science has never only grown alone in the ivory tower, and it will continue to
find a clearer position in the broad social life.
