THE EFFECT OF NETWORK-SERVER INSTALLATION AND

CONFIGURATION KNOWLEDGE OF GRADE 11 ICT


STUDENTS IN GENERAL SANTOS CITY NATIONAL
HIGH SCHOOL

CONTENT: Configuring the Network

OBJECTIVE:

At the end of this video tutorial, you will be able to:

1. Learn how to set up a small network using multiple devices.


2. Learn how to configure the router and access point and assigning
static IP addresses to each device.

Step-by-step procedures:

Step 1: Reset the router and connect the cable from the router to the patch panel
that is connected to the desktop 1.

Step 2: After resetting the router, let’s ping to find out what is the default gateway
of our router.

Step 3: After we ping and see the default gateway, open your available web
browser and type or paste the router's default gateway.

Step 4: After pasting the default gateway, just type the username and password
of the router (admin).

Step 5: Go to Wireless > Look for the router name(SSID) and change it, as well
as the password. > Click Save.

Step 6: After changing and saving the changes, Proceed to LAN set-up for
assigning of the IP address. But before that, make sure to disable the DHCP.
Step 7: Change the IP address to the address that you assigned to the desktop.
Click save and wait 10 seconds to remove the cable and connect it to the switch.

(Explanation of the narrator then proceed to Access Point configuration.)

Step 8: Reset the Access Point for 15 seconds.

Step 9: To know the default address, just check the bottom part of the Access
Point. It’s located on the sticker in the bottom part.

Step 10: After checking the default address, open your google chrome or any
available web browser in your desktop.

Step 11: Enter the Access Point name or the default address.

Step 12: After we entered the default address/Access Point name, go to wireless
and change the Access Point(SSID) name and password and add WAP(Wireless
Access Point). Go to security mode and change it to Personal then save.

Step 13: Go to LAN > Change dynamic to static > Assign IP


address(192.168.100.12) > Change gateway(192.168.100.11) > Change DNS
Server(192.168.100.13) > Click Save > Wait 10 seconds before removing the
cable and connect it to the switch.

(Explanation of Narrator then proceed to another desktop/server configuration.)

Step 14: Proceed to another desktop for the server. Go to network > Click
Ethernet > Click Change adapter settings > Right Click the Ethernet > Click
properties > Click Internet Protocol Version 4(IP v4) then click properties.

Step 15: Assign IP address

• IP address – 192.168.100.13(Server’s IP)

• Default Gateway – 192.168.100.11(router’s IP)

• DNS server – 192.168.100.13(Server’s IP)

- Then press OK.


Step 16: Go to change advance sharing > On the network discovery, file and
printer sharing, and sharing anyone then turn off the password located at the
very bottom > Go to Windows Firewall and turn them off.

(Explanation of the narrator and proceed to another desktop.)

Step 17: For Step 17, just repeat the same procedures of Step 15 and Step 16.
Just change the IP address to 192.168.100.14. This is the assigned IP of the
desktop that your using.

Laptop Wireless Configuration

Step 18: Go to Wi-Fi > Look for the name of the access point > Click connect
and enter the password.

Step 19: Go to network > Change adapter settings > Wireless Network
Connection > Right click then click properties > Repeat the procedures in Step
15 and Step 16.

• Change the IP address to 192.168.100.15

- Click OK then close

Step 20: For the last step, to make sure that your our network is working, ping
the IP addresses of the 5 devices that you used.

• Go to search bar > search cmd > then type “ping” then the IP address of
the devices.
