ANS Hot Work: is any work that could create a source of ignition that could result in a fire or explosion.
Cold Work: work on equipment or plant components that are under pressure or are energized in some form(mechanical energy)
Q13 What is work at height and its procedure?
ANS To protect all personnel from the risk of fall while working at 3.5ft or above height.
Procedure:
1. The 3.5ft shall be considered as a height where appropriate measures shall be taken.
2. A fixed platform shall be used having planks of standard size not less than thickness 2inch x width 10inch x length 10Ft.
3. Minimum 2 planks platform shall be used for working at height.
4. Platform shall be guarded with top rail (* 36inch to 42inch high from platform) and mid rail (center point of top rail and
platform).
5. Safety belts shall be strictly prohibited at site.
6. Full body safety harness with double lanyard shall be mandatory for all workers working above 3.5ft height.
7. Access ladder shall be provided for all above ground work having rungs distance not more than 12 to 18 inches and rest
platform at every 20ft shall be provided.
8. If ladder is more than 20ft high then after every 20ft rest platform shall be installed in zigzag to the first one or the
monkey ladder shall be provided.
9. Where provision of safety harness hook up is not possible standard inspected life line of 6/8-inch wire core manila rope
shall be used. For all other lifeline applications, a minimum of 3/4-inch manila rope or equivalent shall be used and tied
with strong rigid support.
10. Protruding bars, vertical bars, nails and sharp edges shall not be present underneath the work at height.
11. Workers using fall arrest system shall be instructed and trained properly in its use, prior to start the activity.
12. Working at height shall not be allowed at open area during high wind or rain when:
i. 40 mph or 17.8 m/sec shall be followed while there is no dust
ii. 35.8 mph or 16 m/sec shall be followed while there is dust
iii. Work shall not be allowed at slippery platforms and scaffolds
13. Supervisor shall be responsible for the proper housekeeping of his area after job completion.
14. Working/Scaffold platform shall be GREEN tagged when meeting the above requirements.
