Tool Symbol How it works Where
Check It Proofreading tool that checks for spelling, grammar, and confusable word Docs, Slides,
errors. Turn the feature on to see your errors underlined in purple. Choose Web, PDF
from the list of suggested corrections, ignore the error, or add the word to
custom dictionary.
Text to Speech Reads text aloud with dual color highlighting and natural-sounding voices. Docs, Slides,
Highlight or place your cursor in front of text and click Play button. Web, PDF
Talking Highlight a word to look up in the dictionary and click this icon. Click on the Docs, Slides,
Dictionary definition to have it read aloud. Web, PDF
Picture Click on the Picture Dictionary icon and then select a word or vice versa. Docs, Slides,
Dictionary An image will be displayed. Web, PDF
Word Provides word suggestions as you type. Hover over word to hear read Docs, Slides,
Prediction aloud. Click on the word to insert it. Web, PDF
Translator Allows single words to be translated, and spoken aloud for languages with Docs, Slides,
a corresponding voice. Select language in Options. Web, PDF
Highlights & Allows users to highlight and color code sections of text on a page. Erase Docs, Slides,
Erase highlights from a page when you are done with them, by selecting Web, PDF
Highlights highlights and clicking the broom icon.
Collect Collects your highlights into a new Google Doc. Click on icon and select Docs, Slides,
Highlights which colors to collect, as well as how to sort them Web, PDF
Vocabulary List Builds vocabulary lists in a Google Doc, including words, definition, images, Docs, Slides,
Builder and notes column. Use colored highlights to select words, then click icon Web, PDF
to create vocabulary list in a new Google Doc.

Screenshot Converts inaccessible text to accessible text through OCR. Click the icon Docs, Slides,
Reader and then drag your mouse to draw a rectangle around any inaccessible Web, PDF
text, to ORC it on demand.
Screen Tints your screen and provides a reading light that follows your mouse Docs, Slides,
Masking pointer, to help improve focus. Customize color, opacity, and other Web, PDF
options from the options menu. Has a floating control box.
Practice Allows students to practice and record themselves reading selected text, Docs, Slides,
Reading Aloud use support tools, listen to their recording, and sent to their teacher for Web, PDF
feedback.
Web Search Highlight a word or phrase and click the icon, and a Google search will Docs, Slides,
open in a new tab. Web, PDF
Voice Notes Records a short audio file (one minute or less) of your voice, and inserts it Docs, Slides,
into a Google Doc as a comment. Highlight text where you’d like to place Web, PDF
your comment, then click the icon and use the microphone button to
record.
Hover Speech Reads text on websites in Chrome without highlighting, simply hover over Docs, Slides,
the text you would like to read. Web, PDF
Simplify Removes clutter from web pages and places the simplified text into a new Docs, Slides,
tab. Use the + and – icons to change the amount of text displayed. Web, PDF
Contract controls also available.
Click and Speak Reads any text aloud by simply clicking on it. When the feature is on, you Docs, Slides,
will see a purple line under the button. Click again to turn off. Web, PDF
Push Pin Allows you to insert notes, instructions, or helpful hints on your PDF. Docs, Slides,
Annotation Leaves a red pushpin icon wherever the annotation was made. Click the Web, PDF
icon and click where you want the annotation. Use additional options to

Typewriter Allows you to type directly on a PDF. Click the icon and then click where Docs, Slides,
Annotation you want the annotation. Use additional options to customize. Talk & Type Web, PDF
and Prediction available.
Comments Allows you to comment directly in the PDF. Select text where you want Docs, Slides,
the comment, click the Comment icon. Talk & Type and Prediction Web, PDF
available. Can insert images or links. Use play button to hear comment
read aloud.
