J.G. Ballard s Science Fiction Legacy
Ballard along with many other new wave science fiction writers believed that science fiction should
be taken seriously as a form of literature. In order to fulfill this belief the new wave science fiction
writers began experimenting with language and their style of writing, creating cognitive
estrangement , indicating a kind of alienation or de familiarization effect that they used to separate
postmodern/new wave science fictionfrom traditional/pulp science fiction. Ballard, amongst many
others, is considered one of the forefathers that helped develop the New wave movement to what
we know of it today. Ballard was born in Shanghai in 1930, where he spent the first fifteen years
of his profound life. At the age of sixteen, Ballard interned at a Japanese camp during World War
II and, was deported to England. He attended Cambridge University and obtained his degree in
medicine, and a few years later he sold his first story to New Worlds, a renowned science fiction
magazine, in 1956. He is the author of numerous novels and short story collections, including Crash,
Empire of the Sun and The Atrocity Exhibition. Ballard stepped into the realm of the new wave
movement, early in his career with apocalyptic/post apocalyptic novels such as The Burning World
(1964), The Crystal World (1966) and many others. Ballard was a writer who challenges easy
categorization: even his most speculative books can t be fitted neatly with a genre label, and his
more mainstream works contain
Sully Movie Analysis
When the movie Sully first came out, it received a wide range of mixed reviews from both critics
and normal movie goers alike. Although everyone is entitled to their own opinion, not everyone
agrees with what other people think. Because Sully is a movie that is based on a true real life
event, society has mixed reviews about how the movie was played out because it was based on a
real event. Three movie critics gave their thoughts on the movie and each one has different views
then the other reviewer does on the producer of the movie Clint Eastwood, the captain, Sully,
National Transportation Safety Board, and the co pilot, Jeffrey Skiles, whom will all be seen in this
essay. Sully will go down in history as the movie that had both a wide range of reviews and also
told the story of a government agency trying to put the blame on a worldwide hero. Because Sully
is based off an event that involves an airplane, the safety personnel had to get involved to
investigate the cause if the accident. Due to the fact that the National Transportation Safety Board is
made up of many highly intelligent people, there was bound to give way to issues that arrived
between the captain who landed the plane, Captain Sully, and the National Transportation Safety
Administration know as NTSB for short. The NTSB was in charge of investigating the event
because it deals with transportation. Matthew Lickona and Scott Marks are both movie critics who
work for the San Diego Reader. Both authors
Indian Inflation
Essay on Inflation a Major Cause of Inequality. Sri Bhabatosh Datta, the famous economist has
clearly stated that: The origin of inflation is often found in the panicky nervousness of unstable
governments in olitically unstable communities.
Given political stability there is no reason why India should not be able to carry out her future plans
without generating serious inflationary pressure on the price level.
The percentage of inflation in regard to price movements and the purchasing power of the rupee
need to be evaluated on the basis of wholesale price index (WPI) with 1950 51 as the base year.
Unfortunately, the government with the intention of preventing a factual comparison of the
purchasing power of rupee, keeps changing the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Mounting government expenditure over the years has also been responsible for inflation. The total
expenditure of Central and State government in 1950 51 was about Rs. 750 crores only. This
expenditure went upto Rs. 37,000 crores in 1980 81, further up to Rs. 5,80,000 crores in 2000 2001.
Much of this has been non development expenditure implying and increased in large money income
in the hands of general public and stoking the fires of inflation. The populist measures of doubling
and trebling salaries of government employees without implementing the rest of the
recommendations of the Fifth pay commission has put an excessive burden on the exchequer
without deriving any benefits from this.
Deficit budgeting is another reason for inflation. Mounting government expenditure financed through
deficits directly pushes up money supply consequently pushing up demand. This has been
responsible for the inflationary situation in the country with the State governments further adding to
the problems through persistent financial indiscipline, reckless expenditures and unauthorized
overdrafts.
Black Money:

Saudi Arabi Oil And Natural Gas
Question One
Saudi Arabia is the largest oil and natural gas producer of oil in the world attributed to its vast
reservoir (Jasimuddin, 2001). The economic growth seen over the years has been dependent upon
exploration and production of oil for local and international market (Jasimuddin, 2001). Oil in Saudi
contributes up to 40% of its Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and an approximate 80% of its annual
revenue (Elachola Memish, 2016). Largely, the exports that emanate from Saudi Arabia to the tune of
90% are from oil and natural gas products (2016). The country has invested a lot of capital in the
exploration and production of oil over the years (2016). Saudi Arabia has enjoyed a competitive
advantage over the rest of oil producers for the better part of the 21st century(2016). The world is
experiencing a fall in the oil prices now due to a shift in the demand and supply curve.
Consequently, Saudi Arabia is beginning to lose its competitive age due to the continuous fall in
oil prices (2016). Currently, the world s oil price is at $42 per barrel and has been fluctuating
unpredictably to as low as $30 per barrel (2016). Saudi Arabia is mostly dependent on oil and the
continuous fall in prices puts it at risk of economic crisis(2016). Subsequently as the strategy
advisor and policy commissioner, by using Porter s Model of Diamond of National Advantage, it
will give the impact oil prices have on the country.
Porter s Diamond of National Advantage is a classical theory with
Similarities Between The Alamo And The Battle Of San Jacinto
The Battle of Two Paintings
Remember the Alamo! This instantly iconic decree of hope and patriotism was yelled by Texan
soldiers as they fought in the Battle of San Jacinto, the deciding battle in the Texas war for
independence. The battle only lasted eighteen short minutes, and it was a Texan victory, causing
them to gain independence from Mexico. Those two events, the Battle of the Alamo and the Battle of
San Jacinto, inspired many people in many different ways, including Henry Arthur McArdle.
McArdle was a painter who would go on to paint two very famous paintings, The Battle of San
Jacinto and Dawn at the Alamo. While both of these paintings depict very similar scenes and have
the same techniques and composition, there are differences in both that make each painting unique.

peaceful scene. As the observer s eyes drift downward, they see the chaos as the Texans slowly lose
the battle. At the top of the left building, a Mexican flag flutters in the wind, and to the right, another
Mexican flag raises as the Texas flag is tossed to the ground. Through all this, at the bottom of the
painting, hope is still shown: the Texans will not give up. Patriotism is shown as although they are
outnumbered and their flag is lowered, they are still fighting. On the right side, it shows a man much
larger than the others, shooting a man holding a Mexican flag. This figure represents patriotism in
the physical form, and the observer can assume this man is an important figure in the battle of the

Creating False Memory, By Elizabeth Loftus
False memory refers to a phenomenon that makes an individual believe that they remember events in
their lives but in real sense, these events have never occurred. In most cases, these events are
traumatic, and relate to sexual abuse. False memory syndrome was postulated in 1992 in an attempt
to explain the theory of adult childhood memory. Adults who remember sexual abuse events when
they were young may be creating an occurrence that never happened or information that is not
correct.
Synopsis
Nadean Cool attended therapeutic sessions with the hope of modifying her reaction to the shocking
events of her daughter. The therapist misguided her. The therapist convinced her that her current
response was a result of past involvement with a satanic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Loftus argues that people can be shaped to remember their past in different ways. She used a study
about getting lost in a Mall to show that individuals can be prompted to recollect the whole events
that occurred to them (Loftus 74). Imagination can also create a false memory of an occurrence that
never happened. Loftus and her colleagues requested the participant to record on a scale the
possibility of the forty events named occurred in their childhood. After two weeks, they were
allowed to imagine some of the occurrences they had said never happened in their childhood. They
were asked to rate the events again. Individuals, who participated in the imagining test, became
convinced that the incident happened (Loftus 75).
In summary, the discussion about the false memory syndrome is far from being complete. False
memory syndrome makes it difficult to judge the viability of an event and is very hard to banish
from ones memory. A small false creation embeds in the mind for a very long time. Once an
individual creates a false memory, it becomes part and parcel of his or her life. Therapeutic sessions
should be taken with care so as to reduce false memory implanted to reduce

Santa Fe Trail
This trail started in 1821. The Santa Fe Trail starts off from Independence and ends at Santa Fe.
Because it was about 800 miles long, the journey took about 8 weeks. More than 2000 wagons
were leaving for Santa Fe by the 1830s each spring, proved by A journey in time . If you left from
Fort Leavenworth to Santa Fe by wagon train, the fare cost was $250 for adults, and $125 for
children. The rate for freight was $10 for 100 pounds. A lot of trading was done on this trail. As A
journey in time said, trade on the Santa Fe trail amounted to 3.5 million dollars( more than 53
million in current dollars).

Analyzing Sebastian Arredondo s Performance
This is a critique of Sebastian Arredondo s performance on the evening of Monday November 28,
2016 which took place in Recital Hall in Merrill Hall of the Jacob s School of Music. Arredondo
performed three pieces. His first piece was Domenico Scarlatti s Sonata in A Major, K.208 followed
by his Sonata in D Major, K.492. His next piece was Maurice Ravels Valses nobles et sentimentales
(1911) which contains 8 movements; Modere Tres franc, Assez lent, Modere, Assez anime, Presque
lent, Vif, Moins vif, and Epilogue: Lent. The last piece Arredondo performed was Franz Liszts
Sonata in B Minor, S.178. Scarlatti lived from 1685 1757 and the majority of his pieces were
published after his death. Maurice Raval lived from 1875 1937 and his piece Valses nobles et
sentimentales was published for pianoin 1911. Franz Liszt lived from 1811 1886 and his Sonata in B

My main problems were with things out of his control. I found myself frustrated and annoyed by
the audience who for the majority of the performance either left while he was in the middle of the
piece or entered the auditorium during a song. To make matters worse, it was pouring outside so
at one point in Liszt s Sonata in B Minor, it was a really quiet part of the piece and one person
entered and his shoes squeaked with every step he took. And he didn t even just take a seat in the
back row, he walked about five rows in before he took a seat. I felt bad for Arredondo but he
handled it like a pro because he didn t let it phase him. Another aspect of the performance, I didn t
particular care for is how after every piece, the performer will leave the stage and then come back
out. I understand why they do it and that it s tradition but I found it a little strange. The performance
part however, I really didn t have any complaints. I was entertained and he held my attention for the

The Software Development Life Cycle Essay
The waterfall method is a linear, sequential, non iterative process for software development first
mentioned by Herbert Benington in 1956. The software development life cycle (SDLC) is defined
by Ruparelia as a conceptual framework or process that considers the structure of the stages in
volved in the development of an application from its initial feasibility study through to its deploy
ment in the field and maintenance (Ruparelia, 2010, p. 8). This method is so named waterfall
because the stages of the SDLC cascade down through the stages of product consideration, re
quirements, analysis, design, development, testing, implementation and review/maintenance. In the
1970s, Winston Royce built on the waterfall modelto incorporate iteration and stage review. Royce
s intent was to address the central role that the design phase plays in minimizing risks by being re
visited several times (Ruparelia, 2010, p. 8). This later form of the waterfall model assumes that
continual feedback is required to ensure additional updates/improvements are implemented, and is
therefore necessitated by the requisite updates that subsequent testing phases bring to light. The
most significant difference between the original waterfall method of Benington and Royce s
modified form is the need to re iterate and validate that no further updates/revisions are required in
prior stages before moving on to the next phase. In some circumstances, there may even be a need to
skip a previous phase to
