Review Of The Sun Also Rises
Jacob Hernandez
Mrs. Dell
AP Literature

Related Reading Essay (The Sun Also Rises) In the post World War I era, people were affected
directly and indirectly from the war in many ways. In The Sun Also Rises by Ernest Hemingway,
Jake faces an insecurity which has affected both his masculinity and love life which Hemingway
symbolizes with the steer. He copes with these insecurities through alcohol abuse like the rest of the
characters and lack of communication. These insecurities further lead to bad coping skills which
include excessive drinking and lack of direct communication and that further creates conflicts.
Bullfighting is one of the symbols in which Hemingway describes Jake. Hemingway portrays Jake to

This is Jake s way of proclaiming his preeminent insecurity regarding his masculinity which sparks
conflicts throughout the remainder of the plot. She cuddled against me and I put my arm around
her. She looked up to be kissed. She touched me with one hand and I put her hand away.
(Hemingway 23) . When in the back of the taxi with the prostitute, Georgette, tries to come on to
Jake but he quickly pushes her away. Jake was indirectly telling us his wound affects his means
and abilities to engage in sexual activities. While in the back of the taxi with Brett, she says You
mustn t. You Must know. I can t stand it, that s all . Oh, darling, please understand. (Hemingway

him because of his disability to sexually please her. This compounds Jake insecurity of his
musicality and faces It s known that Brett does indeed love Jake but can not be with him because
his lack of sexual ability, which makes Jake upset at night This was Brett, that I felt like crying
about. (Hemingway 42). Jake finds himself nearly in tears because the girl he loves obviously
loves him back but will not be with him because his impotence leaves him not being able to
sexually please her, much like a steer. Another example is when Jake has the interactions with
homosexuals. Jake says I was very angry. Somehow they always made me angry. I know they are
Athletic Trainer Interview Paper
I interviewed Charlie Hart who is an Athletic Trainer at Marvin Ridge High School. This is his
third year as an Athletic Trainer at the school, and he also teaches classes during the day there as
well. During the interview, I gained lots of helpful insight about the Athletic Training Profession. I
first met Charlie Hart because I had a semester internship with him during my senior year of high
school. I really enjoyed the internship, and learned a lot about the Athletic Training profession. I
had never considered Athletic Training, but after the internship I realized I really liked it and
would be interesting in pursuing Athletic Training as a career. The first question I asked was: what
is a typical day like? He said that he typically arrives... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When a player is laying on the field he is often the first one that gets to the athlete and he has to
quickly asses the situation and decide what type of treatment the athlete needs and how the athlete
is going to get off the field. I also asked how often he works in groups versus how often he works
alone. He said that since he is the only Athletic Trainer at the school, most of the before practice
treatment is him working on his own. He has to communicate with the Athletic Director and coaches
about an athlete s progress however, so getting a player to return to a sport completely relies on him,
the coach, and the Athletic Director working as a team. Also, when a player is injured on the field,
the coach and Athletic Director are there to assist in the on field evaluation and help in the treatment
protocol. The next question I asked was: how is performance measured? He said that his
performance depends on how an athlete recovers. The faster an athlete is able to recover from an
injury, the better the Athletic Trainer did at providing helpful information/treatment for the athlete.
Next, I asked what characteristics a successful Athletic Trainer
Distal Radius Fracture Essay
Diagnosis Fractured distal radius and ulna
Etiology:
The primary cause of a fracture is trauma from car accidents, sports injuries and falls. The trauma
may be a direct blow to the bone or an indirect force from muscle contractions or pulling on the bone.
Other factors that may contribute to fractures include: vigorous exercise, malnutrition, genetic
factors, and osteoporosis. The most common cause of a distal radius fracture is falling onto an
outstretched arm (Ignatavicius Workman, 2013). Wrist fractures of the distal radius are common
and may present special problems for the surgeon and therapist. There are several categories of distal
radius fractures, but the Colles fracture of the distal radius is the most common injury to the wrist
and may result in limitations in wrist flexion and extension, as well as forearm pronation and
supination, resulting from the involvement of the distal radioulnar joint (Early, p.613).
Signs and Symptoms:
The signs and symptoms of a distal radial and ulnar fracture could include: pain, edema, contractures,
deformity, protruding bone, and decreased sensation. In addition, ... Show more content on

First Class Moton Mentor
Sergeant First Class Moton has had a positive influence on my life. My mentor SFC Moton
shared a lot of his life with me in a short period of time and I can t even tell you his first name.
Mainly because we go by our rank in the United States Army and that the rank is your first name.
And even though he went on to make First Sergeant he will always be SFC Moton to me.
I never had a mentor before didn t know I needed one. But he was there when I needed one and trust
me at the age of 24 I needed some Guidance. In February of 2000 I was leaving Germany on my
way to Fort Hood, TX. I was assigned to Charlie Company also called Cobra Company in May of
2000. And that s where I met SFC Moton, he was a tall and slender man with light skin, bald head ...

I was ready to say goodbye to the U.S Army. I was going back and forth about what I was going to
do. Should I go should I stay type of thing. So one day SFC Moton said to me Sgt. May we having
lunch today you and me. He told me to be waiting for him in the back of the Company around
1030 hours. We didn t go to lunch early often. I started wondering what was wrong did I miss
something, was something not cleaned was something missing. So I waited out back like I was
order to do and waited for some type of reprimand. When he got there he said let s take a walk to
Popeye s and I was relieved nothing was wrong. Our conversation started like it always had about
women, we laugh and joked as I told him what was going on in my world. We laugh and he told
me one of his Recruiter stories. We shared laughs and stories as if we were father and son. And
then he asked me about my future plans in the Army and wanted to know what I was going to do
with my life. I gave him the only thing I had, a story. I was going home to go back to school and get
a job on the police force and live with my father for a little while just until I could get on my feet.
Really, I didn t have a plan and he knew it, like I said you get to know each other pretty well
during those Field Training Exercises. He wanted to talked to me about my potential and let me
know I already had a career in the Army.
Martin Luther King Jr And Malcolm X Essay
Malcolm X and Martin Luther King Jr. were both great american motivational speakers. Bother
being african american in the 1920s to the 1980s, in that day and age you had to be very powerful
to reach out and be heard by the public. They both made a big impact on the world and they did it
in 2 very similar ways, but also managed to do some things differently in the process. Malcolm Xwas
born as Malcolm Little in 1925 on May 19 in omaha Nebraska. His mom and dad had 8 other
children in the house as well as him. His mom s name was Louise Norton Little and she was a
homemaker and his dad s name was Earl Little and he was a Baptist Minister. Earl being a
passionate supporter of Marcus Garvey, a Black Nationalist leader and his civil rights activism...

was born but he later changed his name to Martin. His father served as a co pastor of the
Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta from 1960 to his death in 1984 of a Myocardial Infarction.
Martin Luther graduated high school when he was 15 years old. He went to a segregated public
school in Atlanta. He then later finished Morehouse College, a distinguished Negro Institution in
Atlanta, with a B.A. degree in 1948. In 1951, just 3 years later, Martin received a B.D. while
studying at Crozer Theological Seminary in Pennsylvania. He also received his doctorate at
Boston University in 1955. While in Boston he met and married a woman named Coretta Scott
and made 2 boys and 2 girls with her, In 1957 Martin became president of the Southern Christian
Leadership Conference. Both Malcolm X and Martin Luther King Jr. wanted what was best for
society to keep the peace. On August 28, 1963 Martin have his I Have a Dream speech. King
stressed the importance of a nonviolent society and giving this speech he hoped to make vision
come alive. On December 10, 1963 Malcolm also gave a speech called Message to the Grassroots .
The speech outlined his black nationalist philosophy and accepted him as a major critic for the civil
rights movements. Sadly both Malcolm and Martin s time came too soon and they both was
assassinated few years within each
Biodiversity And Its Effects On The Environment
The sky is dyed red by the flames engulfing the forest. As water floods the land, what little is left is
quickly washed away. Those that would normally resist such disasters are gone. There are much
fewer species in our world than there was a long time ago because the world s biodiversity is in a
deplorable state. As more and more companies access and exploit natural resources at a rate which
the land cannot compensate, more and more organisms are disappearing from the planet. Although
some may believe that the companies actions have no effect on the environment, it cannot be denied
that many species are endangered or already extinct because of their actions; companies indirectly
and directly affect the biodiversityin the world. Biodiversity is the number of species of plants,
animals, microorganism, and ecosystems in a given region. As all species are somehow related and
codependent on one another, biodiversity plays an important role in the survival of many species.
Each organism, no matter how small has an important part in natural sustainability, ecosystems, and
species variety. Animals which live in the waters help to preserve water reservoirs and lakes, while
trees help prevent soil erosion and recycles nutrient. Many organisms help break down the pollution
that humans have spread. In the case of any natural disasters, they are able to compensate and
quickly help the environment recover. When their natural habitats are removed though, they are
forced into extinction
The Gold Rush Of California
Gold is a very precious metal that with in any community is pressed very highly. To a surprise to
several, after the United States won California from Mexico. A land owner had found several
pieces of gold along the river bed of the San Francisco. Circumstances lead to this land owner not
wanting to reveal this information to the world. Nevertheless, the information was spread so
began the Gold Rush in California. This magnificent event gave light to great change but was it
the right move for progress and growth for the new founded country the United States. Growth in
my eyes is defined as the increase of wealth among all the population that is living in a general area.
Wealth should be defined as in a way where a family can live with good... Show more content on

However the turning point was the way the environment was being effected by the means of
destroying the land to get to the gold dug into the ground. Over all the gold rush was looked at as
a great passage in the right direction for developing a modern world but it ended up leading us
back, words, back into an era where monarchy rules the world. The daily life of a miner was far
from perfect. The way the papers and other means of propaganda had portrayed getting rich quick,
but it was far from easy. All the equipment that was needed to start out as a miner was for the most
part outrageous. The earning wages from gold was sixteen dollars an ounce pg.8. Even so, the
work was backbreaking. There was swarms of minors trying to get rich quick. To many miners
that traveled to get a piece of the precious metal they where resorted to taking land from previous
land owner just to get ahead in the Gold Rush. Not to mention that the living conditions where
also outrageous. The rentals of hotels and other business structures, whether of boards or of
canvas, reached even dizzier heights than did commodity prices pg.8. This spaces where set
prices at 3,000 dollars a month or 40,000 dollars for a year, there was also other prices around the
area of San Francisco. And in some cases miners where resorted to living in a room filled to the
brim with other miners. This lead to very poor conditions for any one to live in. But nothing was
better then being rich in a few months or
Should Vere Be Considered a Hero in Billy Budd by Herman...
Billy Budd deals with a sailor who is the titular character of the novella. Billy was impressed on
the Bellipotent but he was accepted by the crew of the ship for being kind hearted and a
handsome man many people adored. One day, Billy accidentally spilled his soup and Claggart,
who has a hatred towards Billy, decides to plot against him. Late at night, Billy overheard two
men talking about a mutiny and was wrongly accused for the rumor (talking about mutiny against
the captain is a crime) by Claggart, the ship s master at arms. Billy, filled with animosity,
retaliates by striking Claggart and accidentally murders the man. The ship s captain, Vere,
summons a drumhead court martial in fear of a mutiny bursting in any second. Vere follows the
rule and have Billy hanged. In the essays of Charles Reich and Robert Martin, they claim that the
decisions of the captain was wrongful. They are in the right mindset to believe that Billy shouldn
t had been killed. In Is Vere a Hero? Robert Martin argues that Vere should not be regarded as the
hero of the story. Vere never did anything to clear up Billy s innocence like launching an
investigation about the entire event that happened. Instead, he ignores it and just decided on Billy
s fate, matters not if he is guilty for his actions or was a mere scapegoat by Claggart. Billy killed a
man and that is all that matters to send him to the gallows. Martin mentions how Vere had perhaps
abandoned his own humanity in favor of his position as
The Different Gender Roles In The Salem Witch Trials
Salem Witch Trials was a series of hearings and prosecutions of people accused of witchcraft in the
Salem Village of the 17th century New England. The trials caused executions of many people,
mostly women. Salem Witch Trials exposed the different gender roles during the seventeenth
century. Women were supposed to take on wifely duties such as, be mothers and housewives.
Women were taught to follow the men. There were strict religious norms during the seventeenth
century. There was rigid moral code believed that God would punish sinful behavior. Those who
were under the covenant by the church of the Salem Village believed that Satan would select
those to fulfill his work and those who followed Satan were considered witches. Witchcraft was
considered a punishable crime. Salem Witch Trials revealed that gender played a role for the
accused and accusers. The trials also revealed that one s relationship with God will set deliverance
from Satan s attacks. Salem Witch Trials demonstrated how rumors, jealousy, and the idea of male
dominance affected people of the Salem Village. Seventeenth Century America revealed there was
male dominance over women. Men were in charge of the Church. Samuel Parris was the ordained
minister of the church. Parris was appointed to bring God back to the Salem Village. Samuel Parris
governed the Church by remaining old fashioned and conservative, he did this by following the Old
Covenant. The Old Covenant allowed only children of covenant members be
