Essay on Human Gene Therapy
Human Gene Therapy

Imagine this, you have just married your college sweetheart this past summer. You have now been
happily married for over a year and you find out that the two of you are going to be parents. So as
the typical soon to be mom and dad so commonly do, the two of you start going to the doctor for
checkups to make sure the pregnancy is running smoothly. Early in the pregnancy you hear the
worst, your baby has a fatal disease. The two of you are terribly heart broken over the situation. You
tell your doctor that abortion is out of the question because you do not believe in it. On the other
hand the doctor hits you with the question, What about gene therapy? Unfortunately you and your
spouse look dumbfounded at each other ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Gene therapy techniques consist of several key elements. An important element, actually one of the
most important elements is the identification and cloning of the gene or genes related to the disease,
which is going to be maintained or treated by gene therapy. However, gene therapy should not be
confused with the concept of cloning. Cloning is creating another individual with essentially the
same genetic makeup. The idea of cloning an entire human is very different from gene therapy. Next
the expression and efficiency of gene transfer during gene therapy must be emphasized. Scientists
involved with gene therapy research are currently trying to discover the best rates of gene transfer
and tissue specific gene expression. Gene therapy research is still in the formative stages. Although a
number of early human clinical trials have been initiated to test important concepts that have
emerged.

The genes we inherit from our parents virtually affect every human disease. The argument for gene
therapy lies in the understanding of the genetic basis of human disease. There are an amazing
100,000 individual genes in the human genome. At the present time there is an international
movement known as the Human Genome Project. The project will eventually provide an
understanding of how each gene plays a role in human lives. The project
Stereotypes In The Rich Kids Of Beverley
The Rich Kids of Beverley Hills documents the extravagant lives of several wealthy friends in their
twenties, but mainly focuses on longtime best friends Dorothy Wang and Morgan Stewart. All the
friends share common interests in pricey shopping trips, penthouse parties, and extraordinary
getaways to exotic locations. Although some of these friends generate their own income, most of
them fund their expensive lifestyles through their parents money. The reality TV show follows
Dorothy and Morgan as they shop on Rodeo Drive which they call their version of cardio. As they
pruchase $4,000 worth of clothing at stores, they take countless selfies to further document their
lavish daily lives. The show depicts their nights out on the town as consisting... Show more content

On the other hand, some of their behavior seems exaggerated and overdone. For instance, when
Dorothy was apartment hunting, Morgan and she felt the need to test the selfie lightning of the
apartment to see if it was worthy to live in. I think that this somewhat absurd behavior was
promoted by the show s producers to create an interesting reality show. The show does not focus
on any social issues but instead details extravagant lifestyles of children living off their parents
fortunes. Overall, the show promotes countless stereotypes as the stars believe they need to be
size zero in order to be skinny and the fact that they have no responsibilities. The show also places
an importance on social media as hashtags, notifications and screenshots of text messages, and
Instagram posts. These finically privileged stars provide a negative image for a generation as
they lack a legitimate job and take no attempts to create a career for themselves. Although the
reality show stars are aware they maintain at a very young age that most people work all their
lives for, they appear disconnected from the reality of the world encompassing them. Most people
probably watch the show as a form of mindless entertainment. The lavish lifestyles of the stars
appeal to those who dream about one day achieving those lifestyles. As the show appears very
superficial, it fails to provide a positive image for young children; therefore, it does not appeal to
families. Outsiders who see the show may fail to realize that the show does not provide an accurate
portrayal of the youth living in America. Instead, other people would believe that millennials are
shallow, irresponsible, and unable to work

Low cost of living

The cost of living in Malaysia is still very low in comparison to western cities. For example, student
rent can cost anywhere between RM 300 (€ 62 or £ 43) for shared accommodation to RM 1200 (€

2.50 (€ 0.50 or £ 0.30p) for roadside meals up to RM 50 for a special occasion (€ 10.30 or £ 7.20).

However if you really have something to celebrate, you could also spend as much as RM 250 (€ 50
or £ 30) for a luxury dining experience in a renowned Kuala Lumpur restaurant, winner of the Best

Oscar Romero, Liberation Theology and the Catholic Church

In the post World War II era, the globe was polarized by two idealistically divergent superpowers; the
United States and the Soviet Union, two nations that strived to promote capitalism and communism,
respectively, throughout the globe. Nowhere was this struggle more apparent than in developing
countries with shaky political and economic backbones. Specifically, in Latin America the old,
corrupt and often totalitarian regimes were threatened by grassroots liberation movements whose
ideas of land reform and shaking up the status quo were often perceived as Marxism. The Catholic
Church, which had traditionally supported the wealthy ruling class, began to change its beliefs in ...

One important indicator on the Catholic Church s stance on Liberation Theology and general social
activism in Latin America will be to see if Archbishop Oscar Romero is accepted into sainthood. The
iconic and controversial religious leader worked tirelessly to help the lower class in El Salvador.
His teachings and beliefs that the marginalized peasants should be treated justly made him a
living legend among his countrymen and isolated him from the nation s corrupt elites. Although
he never specifically condoned violence, his sermons played no small part in fomenting a bloody
peasant uprising and civil war that raged for over a decade. In the last few years, a strong effort
has been made to canonize Romero. Although he is revered not only in his own country but
throughout the world, there exist a few issues that could possibly preclude him for becoming a
saint. He is still strongly disliked by the vast majority of the wealthy and powerful ruling class of El
Salvador, he, indirectly and inadvertently, helped bring about a violent conflict that ravaged his
nation and, perhaps most importantly, his canonization may appear to be a carte blanche validation
of Liberation Theology and the Marxist uprisings that were often associated with the movement. The
canonization of Oscar Romero will redefine the seminal ideal of a modern day saint and could quite
Glorious Warrior In Beowulf
Beowulf Glorious Warrior or Braggart? The word Viking is defined as a person of any Scandinavian
seafaring pirates and the traders who raided and settled in many parts of the northwestern Europe in
the eighth century to the eleventh century. However not much is known about the culture. In the
Viking era, the character Beowulfwould be seen as a valiant and courageous warrior. On the other
hand, today in present times, it may be possible for him to not be seen in such an upstanding
light. The Vikings were known as ruthless pirates who conquered many lands. Although as the
cited article mentions: They were also poets, lawmakers and great artists... at home they lived in
a well ordered society, based on laws and democracy. ( Contrary to some beliefs they were
civilized people within their communities although they were merciless when it came to gaining
control of lands. In many various cultures, women were and still are wrongfully viewed as
inferior to men, Though in the Viking culture women held strong positions in their society and
were responsible for farms when their husbands were away. The column again states: The symbol
of the powerful housewife was her keys, hung from her gown. If her husband took her keys from
his wife, should could divorce him instantly, and keep their shared property. Therefore women were
given power in the their society. The Vikings were travelers and voyagers as well; which were
people that go on long trips, usually in ships. The

It is safe to say that the JROTC will continue creating bright and disciplined citizens as it has been

way of life, true patriots who live for their country and fellow countrymen, men and women with

selfless service, leadership, duty, valor, ardent love for what they are and what they have done,
and more; all of these make up the remarkable and unique experience that is the JROTC, the
citizens of tomorrow. As long as the JROTC persists, the existence of at least one model citizen; a
leader, is assured to linger on our precious red, white, and blue soil. The JROTC is not only a home

The Importance Of Early Literacy Environment
A child s home environment is critical to their cognitive development and linguistic skills which are
an important factor in early literacy development. Previous studies have identified reading aloud to
children and shared reading can aid in building the necessary skills and understanding for reading.
Print exposure is an important prerequisite for children to understand the phonemic structure of
langue and identify letters. When parents guide their children through reading, it helps children s
understanding, learn vocabulary, and learn strategies for information processing. Based on the child
s environment there are important difference in families use of langue and readingrelated to academic
functioning. It is unknown if the family s literacy environment impacts the child s reading or
academic functioning with children with reading disabilities. Home literacy environment refers to
literacy related activities at home and the frequency of reading. Saracho stated a child s literacy
development is related to the parents literacy level and available reading materials. Three aspects
important for literacy development, according to Leseman and de Jong, are the opportunity to
practice, motivation, and encouragement to read. Other studies extended the definition of home
literacy environment to include the age of the child when joint reading occurred, library visits, and
behaviors that interfered with reading as well as considering the parent as an important

But then it comes down to which one to choose from. If you were to join one of the two, would you

choose which one is better just by the advertisements, or because a family member was in a military

the two you re interested in joining. There s plenty to take into consideration when it comes down to

Analysis Of Not Waving But Drowning
Murky Tides of Stevie Smith Not Waving but Drowning by Stevie Smith is an example of dark
poetry where she uses the theme of death as she has done in many of her previous works. In this
poem, she talks figuratively and also literally about a man lost in a sea (Livatino 444). Also, there is
an amazing contradiction in its content as well as in the tone and from the frivolity in the narration
to the man finding himself in a serious situation (Waterford, Michelle 16). Accordingly, Stevie Smith
s work often combines caprice and doom, and therefore she continues with the same trend in this
poem. StevieSmith inspired us from tragedies in her own life. For instance, When she was three
years old her father left home (Waterford 16), When Stevie was five she developed tuberculosis
peritonitis and was sent to a sanatorium (Smith Stevie), and Smith s mother died when she was 16
(Livatino 444). An analysis of Stevie Smiths poem Not waving but drowning expresses a dark yet
familiar tone that embodies the use of isolation and metaphor to reach out to its readers.
The theme of physical and emotional isolation is explored in the first verse of the poem through
the image of a man who had drowned in a sea (Charlesworth Hilary). However, physical separation
can be seen in the first line Nobody heard him (1) which had a meaning that he was too far into
the sea that no one could hear his cries for help. On the other hand, it could also mean that no one
was willing to listen or take time to understand him and, therefore, he is isolated and left with no
one to lay a hand of assistance (Livatino 444). The man is lost and tormented as can be seen in the
two lines, Poor chap, he always loved larking (5) and Oh...no it was too cold always (Flower Dean).
Under those circumstances, the author uses two contrasting moods and emotional expressions about
the dead man to lament his illusive torment.
The lyrics of this poem are abrupt and immediate as the author omits punctuations and quotation
marks to give the readers a smooth and almost un empathetic flow of the tale while the man descends
to death and doom (Waterford, Michelle 16). For instance, it can be seen in the lines Nobody heard
him, the dead man (1), and
My Experience With Attending An Elite
My Experience with Attending an A.A. and Alanon Meeting As a part of our class assignment
we were presented with the idea of attending an A.A. and an Alanon meeting. After attending these
meetings, I found that they were more interesting than I could have imagined. I am not quite sure
what I expected, but the environment held a serene spirit that I normally encounter at church. I
attributed this fact, to the point that the name of God was called on often and the people were
singing his praises. Observing and listening to how people referenced or acknowledged his
presence helped them to refrain from drinking was just awesome. In this paper, I will describe the
environment where the meeting took place, how the meeting was brought to order and its format,
and the insight it provided me being a future counselor who will have to make referrals. I
participated in an AA and an Alanon meeting this week at the 623 club in Belleville, IL. I was
privy to attending the Alanon meeting first due to the nature of my schedule. The facility where
the meeting was held looked like a restaurant. I say that because it was set up like an eating
establishment with tables and chairs throughout the room accordingly. A lady who was a part of the
meeting supplied drinks, such as water, tea, soda and coffee from where she stood behind a counter.
Nevertheless, the meeting itself took place at the center table and it was about thirteen of us on that
day. I was a few minutes late and
