Residential Schools Vs. Public Schools
INTRODUCTION
The First Nations children were greatly affected by the residential schools, as it left them physically
and emotionally damaged from the trauma of being isolated from their families and cultural values;
being abused (physically, verbally and sexually) while also being discriminated against, which had
lasting effects. Although there were many other tribes who were also neglected, such as the metis
and the units, my focus will be on the First Nations boys and girls who were affected by the
residential schools and how it continues to affect them in today s society. Throughout this essay, I
will be proving examples and research to show what the residential schools were followed by what
type of effects it had on the boys and girls who were forced to attend the schools.
RESIDENTIAL SCHOOLS
The Indian Residential Schools were boarding schools that forced students to leave their families and
homes in order to go and continue their education elsewhere. They were formulated with the
partnership of the United Churches along with the Government. (Laing,2013:53). The Government
and the Churches put these schools in place in order to separate the children from their family and
cultural customs and values. The goal was to isolate the children from what they are used to in order
to kill the Indian in the child and have them pick up the new Euro Canadian culture and values along
with the English Language. In addition to being taken away from their families, the
Socioeconomic Similarities Of Irish Immigrants
Ethnicity and class are similar, yet different. A common way to described class can be by the
socioeconomic statues of an individual. The socioeconomic statues are lower class, middle class,
and high class. Ethnicity can be described as a group of people who are bound together by either
having common traditions or cultures. They way class and ethnicity functions together for Irish
immigrants was that even though they had the same skin color as the English, they were still seen
and treated harshly. They were considered lower class in both Europe and America in the 1800s,
they were treated like any other minority in the United States. However, even though Irish
Immigrants were treated unfairly as any other minority, the Irish believed that
Josephine Tey s The Daughter Of Time
Until I read The Daughter of Time, I liked history. This was fortunate, since the curriculum my
mother used to homeschool me and my sisters was literature based, and as a result, we read a lot
of historical fiction. Some I enjoyed more than others, but over the years, as I grew to be quite a
voracious reader, historical fictionremained one of my most commonly read genres. And as my
reading comprehension developed, classic literature and several historical biographies slipped into
my reading list. I knew I enjoyed history, but only in a vague, half conscious manner. The fact that
many of the books I read were award winning and historically accurate was incidental.
Enter Josephine Tey and Richard III. When I was around fifteen, a friend of my mother s
recommended that we try BBC Radio. Accordingly we found the site; and the book that was
currently airing was The Daughter of Time.
The Daughter of Time is a detective novel written in 1951 by Elizabeth MacKintosh, alias Josephine
Tey. It features a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Soon enough, I was wading through articles about hemophilia, breaking my heart over little
Alexei Nikolaevich. I was crying over Sassoon, singing along to Vera Lynn, and loitering in the
military history aisle in Barnes and Noble. Akhenaten s Amarna Dynasty intrigued me. I had to
explain to my sister why I emitted a near squeal of delight when I saw a photo of the Book of Kells
chi rho page.
I had always liked history. Now, thanks to Elizabeth MacKintosh and The Daughter of Time, I love
history. This book piqued my curiosity and through research, opened the way to discover something
that ought to have been obvious, but somehow never was: the people who lived before us lived.
They were human beings with thoughts and fears and opinions and troubles. They loved and lied;
they died and were (or were not) mourned and forgotten. But first they
The Benefits Of Medical Marijuana
Many people don t know what Marijuana is, to clarify what it is, it is a dried bud, occasionally
considered cannabis with a natural dust called THC on the plant. THC is the particle that causes
reactions to the body. Another thing people at times don t comprehend correctly is that the
medical use of marijuana and the recreational use is totally different. The medical use of
marijuana is recommended by a doctor in the treatment of a medical condition such as cancers,
HIV/AIDS, Epilepsy, and many other conditions. The recreational use of marijuana is considered
a misused drug; its use is for a high that is not recommended by a doctor, so it is illegal, sold in
the black market trade. Knowing medicals marijuana purpose, it should be legalized for its
medical use only for the soul purpose to help and provide relief to the hurt and/or sick. Medical
marijuana use may provide relief and/or help to many ill people; marijuana s medical use is the
new natural drug that can help with more than one problem as in many other drugs also do.
Medical marijuana is a highly used substance that has been used for millennia and it is here to
stay whether it is legal or not (Newton 137). It is told that marijuana will never truly go away.
People need to create legal ways for the sale of marijuana so it can be used as a medical herb
without the common threat of legal consequences (129). Saying that more and more countries/ states
are legalizing the use and/ or sale of medical marijuana. In fact,
Constitutional Democracy Essay
To begin with, the United States founding fathers are George Washington, James Madison, and
Alexander Hamilton, they wrote the Constitution of the United States in 1787. The United States is
a constitutional democracy. A constitutional democracy is a type of government in which powers are
limited by a supreme law called the Constitution, and the population has the power to directly vote
on a political matter which is a direct democracy. In the United States, this works differently. The
population only gets to vote directly for electing our Representatives. They represent the will of the
people of the States in the government. In constitutional democracies, people must obey the laws,
because it is their representatives who have the power... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After that, the bill gets voted. If it gets 218, or more votes it gets sent to the Senate. The bill goes
into committee, if it gets approved it s sent to the Senate floor to be voted. If the bill gets 51, or
more votes, the bill is ready to go to the President. The bill goes to the President. If the President
signs it, it becomes a law. If the President refuses to sign it, or vetoes. It goes back to the House of
Representatives. If both the Senate, and the House of Representative feel the bill should become a
law. They can vote again on the bill. If the bill gets 2/3 votes in the Senate and the House of
Representatives. The veto is overridden, and the bill becomes a law. If someone sues, because of that
law, the Supreme Court might find it unconstitutional and block it. To continue, the Constitution has
been changed twenty seven times since it was written. These changes or additions are called
amendments. They are also very important. The Constitution also has separation of powers. Adapted
from Baron de Montesquieu philosophy, Baron de Montesquieu believed that in order for a
government to best serve the people, they need to have separation of powers. It s best used to
prevent tyranny. Separation of powers is the three branches, meaning they carry an equal amount of
power. Something very important in the constitution is checks and balances. Checks and balances
are that any branch can threaten to stop or block the other branch. For

The Battle Of The Invasion Of Normandy
After Marshal Montgomery blockaded Rommel, whose fame was generally known as the Desert
Fox with the navy and the air force in the Strait of Sicily for more than 100 days, the Allies won the
North African Campaign on May 13, 1943. As the Allies freed for further action with the victories of
about 250,000 German and Italian troops surrendered on the north coast of Africa, the British and the
American strategists were facing two options as their huge army quartered in the southern
Mediterranean (www.history.com). One of the option was put forward by the American chief,
suggesting that the Allies should transfer their forces north for the impending invasion of Europe
from the English Channel. Even though this suggestion was disapproved by the English chief who
held the opinion that the Allies should strike the Europe from the southern Italy, this strategy was
later known as the Invasion of Normandy that completely helped the Allies win the WW II. The
option that the British chief favor for finally became the strategy of the Allies first step invasion in
Europe because it not only utilized the fighter cover from air bases on British Malta, 60 miles south
of Sicily, but also saved the Allies shipping to the English Channel as the American chief suggested
that. The strategy of pressing north into Italy was vividly described by British Prime Minister
Winston Churchill as invading the the soft underbelly of Europe (www.history.com). The underbelly

The Pros And Cons Of ISIS
ISIS has been said to take the concept of Jihadism to the extreme. They use the Hadith (scriptures)
and verses from the Quraan in order to justify their actions in Arab countries such as Palestine and
Egypt.
The word Jihad originated from Arabic which is commonly translated as holy war or spiritual
struggle , (Source A). Many people associate the word with a negative concept, simply because it is
misunderstood. There are two types of Jihad and many people of the western world only experience
the Lesser Jihad which is where Muslims undertake a hot war with non believers. It is these
actions that allow people to label the Muslims as terrorists. More often than not the Islamic
population prefers not to use the word as it has a negative concept. When the word Jihad is used it
refers to the spiritual struggle one faces in the western world. It is the struggle that each muslim
faces in order to increase their faith and become closer to Allah (God). This is where people often
misinterpret the word and its meaning.
However Jihad does indeed mean to wage a war but only if it is ... Show more content on

ISIS is an organization that claims to be helping their fellow muslim brothers and sisters in the hash
situation they find themselves in. During the times when Islam was fairly new and just beginning to
develop, the tribes of those times were allowed to avenge their loved that were killed by a
different tribe, so as the religion began to develop this rule was carried but with a set of rules. It
is also on this piece of history that ISIS justifies their actions. They have claimed along with Al
Qaida that they feel no remorse for those they attack as they are simply avenging the deaths of their
many loved ones. It is due to their extremely strong belief of the religion and the concept of being
allowed to take the life of the one that took their loved
Management Practices And Functions Of Management
Management Practices
Management has played a crucial role in how organizations have operated for over a century. It has
been the foundation of organizations in the structuring of their companies and has determined their
level of success. Without management, organizations would struggle with defining a purpose for
themselves. They would lack in goals to achieve and overall improvement. Since the implementation
of management, theories of management have come and gone. New ideas have emerged and
thoughts have shifted as the world continues to grow and change. However, the concept of
management and its key elements have remained the same. These elements consist of what is known
as the five functions of management and include planning, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The Air Force starts with a vision based on needs of the government and its country and from there
plans accordingly to meet these needs. At the squadron level, planning starts with a mission
statement. Our mission statement as a Remotely Piloted Aircraft (RPA) Squadron is to conduct
worldwide operations as tasked by senior U.S government officials using special tactics and
capabilities for persistent, real time reconnaissance, target tracking and destruction. Furthermore,
our strategic vision statement for our organization s future is to continuously operate RPA s
around the globe to collect intelligence and destroy enemy targets in support of national strategy.
Beyond our squadron s mission and vision statement, we must break down planning into strategic,
tactical, and operational planning. This allows us guidelines to follow in order to pursue our
vision. The implementation of squadron standards addresses both operational and tactical
guidelines and creates a baseline for us to follow in our everyday work. The standards are
published squadron wide and it is expected of us to not only know them but also incorporate them
in our missions. Having these standards allow for expedient execution of mission tasks and strikes
and any deviation from a standard must be briefed as non standard . Contingency plans are also
Mark Zuckerberg Vs Smart People
There are many intelligent people in the world. One would assume that all of these intelligent
people are very successful because they are smart, but this isn t the case. There are many intelligent
people who are not wealthy, well educated, or successful. To be smart and to be intelligent are two
very different things. Many students who get good grades are smart, but not intelligent. There are
doctors who are smart, but not very intelligent. There are construction workers who are not smart,

Many times a student will memorize what they need to know on the test. They will not truly
memorize the material because they will soon forget it after the test. Since test taking is generally
the only way that people are evaluated upon, this leads to society having more smart kids than
intelligent ones. Kids will often get into college because they are smart, but many times they can t
solve a complex problem because they lack that intellect to do so. There are many intelligent people
who never go to college because they have an idea that they need to get out to the world. This is
possibly why many inventors and successful college dropouts are innovative individuals that start
a business to help them gain wealth. There are far more smart people than there are intelligent
ones. Even though being smart is different from being intelligent, individuals can be both smart
and intelligent. Individuals can also be neither smart nor intelligent. There are people like Dr. Ben
Carson and Karl Marx who are both smart and intelligent. There are also people who are neither
smart nor intelligent like like Mike Tyson. Dr. Carson was an individual who grew up in the ghettos
of Detroit and through books he was able to gain much knowledge and do well in school. He
eventually used his intelligence to become the first neurosurgeon to split up siamese twins
successfully. Karl Marx was also very smart and intelligent. He was a German economist and
philosopher. He was incredibly

This technique assist in the decision making process because once the internal rate of return is
determined, the desired investment can easily be decided. Taking the cash outflow and inflow from
each alternative and the desired rate of return will offer the best comparison as which investment will
present a return favorable.
Recommendation
The recommendation Mr. Navallez should take is alternative 1. Alternative 1 offers the best return
on investment. The use of the net present value techniques presents the desired return on
investment. Net present value over internal rate of return presents the expected return on cash
outflows for the cost of the investment, thus allowing management to compute a present value
index. (Edmonds, Edmonds, Olds, McNair, Schnieder, p.1160) Assume the desired rate of return
is 8% over 10 periods, alternative 1 cash inflow would be $421,834 with cash outflow being
$323,091 and alternative 2 cash inflow of $314,057 with cash outflow being $283,930. The present
value of alternative 1 is $98,743 and alternative 2 is $30,127. Alternative 1 yields a higher rate of
return, however, taking it a step further to confirm alternative 1 is the best investment the present
value index offers an additional comparison of the two investments.
Essay on Main Causes of Divorce
One of the main things people do when they feel great chemistry between one another is get
married. Some couples are unable to maintain their relationship and they get a divorce; which is
one of the solutions to solve the problems between husband and wife. Most people think carefully
before they get married however the divorce rates are continuously increasing. There are three
main causes of divorce: changing in woman s roles, stress in modern living, and lack of
communication. The first significant cause of recent rise in the rates of divorce is a woman s role
being completely changed. In the past, men had to earn all the money to afford the expenses of the
family, whereas woman only did housework. That led to the woman having no money... Show more

Many people who live in globalization have considerable pressures to earn money. Some people
cannot maintain their high maintenance lifestyle and are forced to settle for less. Consequently,
their spouse may feel like they have settled for less and decide they may be better suited for
someone else. This usually occurs when people just marry for money or material things. Those
type of marriages usually never last and end in a horrible divorce. The final cause of recently
increasing divorce is lack of communication. Owing to financial status in each family, many
people are fairly busy. For this reason, they have inadequate time to talk to their spouse about
their problems. Consequently, that usually causes divorce. Some couples are often quiet when
they have problems with each other. Soon their little problems expand to big problems, resulting
in divorce. Maybe if people communicated more with their partner divorce rates would be
increasing so drastically. In addition to the three causes I mentioned, there are also two effects of
divorce. Most couples normally have children when they get married. Divorces can directly affect
the children of the couple. Children living in a single parent house hold are more likely to get
pregnant as a teenager, drop out in high school, abuse drugs, and have aggressive emotional and
behavioral problems. Some children decide to leave their home and subsequently become homeless
and they do not have good opportunities to find a job due
