Bien Pretty Analysis
Woman Hollering Creek, by Sandra Cisneros gives a vivid and imaginative view into the
Hispanic culture. Cisneros expertly weaves ideas and truths of the world, from her insight on
economics, religion, and gender. For example, she depicts the lives of mistresses and how their
lives affected themselves and others. Cisneros s conclusion about these women is definitely
negative in tone she pities the women in these positions and wishes to reach out to them. Proof of
this concept comes from Cisneros s most notable contribution to the literary and social worlds
comes in the form of one of her short stories, Bien Pretty , which delves into the sad realty and
hope filled possibilities for women. Analyzing these facets of Cisneros work better informs and
challenges readers to rise above the stereotypes of society. To begin, throughout Cisneros s work
Hispanic womanhave been depicted as mistresses to men. In other words, these women because of
the pressures and stereotypes of the culture are somewhat forced into this role of being completely
helpless to men. In Bien Pretty this idea is no exception, the main protagonist Lupe doesn t so much
embody a mistress rather she is very dependent on the loveand care of a man. Hispanic women are
brought up to marry and have children; Lupe has been trained to some extent to wantto be taken care
of. This reality of dependency goes further when Lupe tells readers of love in Spanish. She longs
for the sweet Spanish utterances of a man in her ear and his warm embrace, to make love in
Spanish in a manner as intricate and devout as la Alhambra. To have a lover sigh mi vida, mi
preciosa, mi Chiquita, and whisper things in that language crooned to babies, that language
muttered by grandmothers, those words that smelled like your house, like flour tortillas, and the
inside of your daddy s hat, like everyone talking in the kitchen at the same time, or sleeping with
the windows open. In this manner, whenever Lupe hears these words from men she cant helps but
fall for them. However, this idea of what loves is really, just isn t. Cisneros s shows readers how
these woman s almost deceive themselves into a extremely dependent desire for companionship.
Although hope is not lost,

Solids of Revolution for the Rocket Boosters

When creating the graphs, x will equal the amount of meters, and y will represent the radius (also in
meters). Both x and y will be positive rational numbers, since there can be no negative length and

The solids of revolution for this cone will look like the following images.

Thus, we return to the solid of revolutions formula

Volume = ∫_a^b▒〖π (radius)^2 dx 〗 a will equal 0 and b will equal 2.9.
The radius will be the aforementioned equation of the line. This again perfectly matches the
predicted volume that was calculated for the conical section of the External Tank.
Thus, the total volume of the solids of revolution will match as well.
776.16π+17.052π=793.212π
Since it matches, this further proves that the math is correct and effective.

Solids of Revolution for Orbiter

Sadly, similar to the others, I could not find sufficient data to create a detailed model of the Orbiter,
so all I can attempt is model another cylinder that has equal dimensions.
So, using the formula again:
Volume = ∫_a^b▒〖π (radius)^2 dx 〗 a will equal 0 and b will equal 32.85, since that is the length
of the space shuttle.
The radius will be 3.455 since the diameter is 6.91.
This forms the function y=3.455. The solids of revolutions would look like the following images.

This final value matches the predicted volume for the

Difference Between Social And Social Psychology
Social Psychology and Multicultural Psychology Paper
i.Define social psychology.
Social psychology is the science that aims to determine how people think about, relate to, feel
about, and influence one another. Social psychology is a branch of study on social influence, how
individuals have an influence on one another. Social influence is noted to affect trivial behaviours,
such as making paper airplanes in class, as well as important behaviour, such as giving in to
majority opinion over one s judgement. It is an attempt to understand and lay down how thought,
behaviour, feeling of a person is affected by the actual, implied, imagined, presence of other people.
For example, the social influence of social psychology can be demonstrated with an instance
involving Kim, ken, and their friend s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, a person bending to the majority people s decision over one s judgment on an issue
is a social influence by the presence of others. Second, the phrase actual presence of others implies
a physical appearance in the place to influence thought or feelings. Imagined presence makes people
regulate their behaviour according to the reactions that they imagine people will give about the
behaviour. The implied presence is demonstrated by the people automatically obeying social
artefacts, such as streetlights, or other objects such as a black, may imply the presence of a person.

ii.Describe the primary research strategies used in social psychology and give an example of each.
There are three different types of primary research strategies that can be used with social psychology.
They are descriptive, experimental, and correlation research methods. The research methods differ in
the kind of hypothesis each investigates, and the issues it raise.

Lowell Mill Research Paper
19 5 2000 The Lowell Mill Experiment In the early nineteenth century, F.C. Lowell and Nathan
Appleton lead to the creation of a mechanized and water powered system that could transform raw
cotton to woven material. This system was names the Lowell Mills . In order to protect their
agrarian ways, this textile industry was based of manual labors, which lead to the use women as
their primary work force. Unlike in the past, women were able to work in an area away from home
and, though significant, this small difference lead to big changes. Slowly but surely the textile
industry increased individuality amongst women and although the Doctrine of Separate Spheres (a
representation of the differences between men and women socially and economically)... Show more

These problems actually led to the involvement in politics for women. Not too long after women
started joining the mills, the conditions began to rapidly deteriorate due to the depressed economy
that was caused by the creation of rivaling textile mills. The comfort that enticed the women was
now gone. The workload was increased, wages (already less than those of men) were lowered,
dormitory rents were raised, and the mills became a more stressful and more unsafe place to
work, these setbacks caused some workers to leave, but the rest stayed back and by 1834 went on
a strike, opposing the heads of the industry for taking away what they were promised. Sometimes
the heads of the industry would turn the women down, but they were persistent and sometimes it
paid off. An example of this is when the women struck in order to reduce the amount of time they
worked; The heads of the industry made the average worker work for twelve to fourteen hours a
day but after two strikes and protests they were able to reduce the work time to eleven hours a
day. (Used this because I m not too sure I paraphrased this properly). Along with strikes certain
women rose above the rest as political figures. A well known woman of sorts was Sarah Bagley;
she was a fiery labor activist who organized the Female Labor reform Association and led them in
their fight to
The Impact Of Domestic And Foreign Affairs On American...
The new nation of the United States of America had many matters to manage, both domestic and
foreign. Two political parties emerged to tackle these issues, the Federalists and the Democratic
Republicans. Domestic affairs of the United States divided the two emerging political parties more at
the time, and had a larger impact on American politics during the 1790 s than foreign affairs.
Domestic affairs shaped politics more so at the time because we had to establish a government
completely from scratch. We had to construct a constitution and decide on what powers to give and
keep from the government and how to interpret the document. There was two interpretations of
constitution at the time. Loose constructionist favored more broader powers to
The Consequences Of Lowering The Drinking Age
Prohibition was a time in American history where any type of alcohol consumption, production, and
distribution was banned. The thirteen year, dry period finally came to an end because of the
temptation and social urges alcohol presents. Throughout these thirteen years, people corruptly
consumed, produced, and distributed alcohol as if the regulations instituted by the government were
suggestions. Speakeasies would be held underground where drinkers would distribute gin they
produced in their own bathtubs and have parties without law enforcement knowing ( Prohibition ).
After the Prohibition laws were lifted in 1933 to create more revenue to aid the failing economy
during the Great Depression, the drinking age was set at 21 but was later lowered... Show more

In order to safely lower drinking age, the federal government should instill more training courses
over alcohol safety into the criteria in our nation s high schools. Along with the idea of providing
more alcohol based education in the public school system, if students were to complete certain
courses they should be eligible to apply for a drinker s ID. In order to obtain a drinker s ID, 18
year old adults still in high school would be required to take courses such the chemistry of
alcohol, the physical impacts to one s body as a result of alcohol abuse, and the consequences
because of driving under the influence and possible addiction ( The Debate On Lowering The
Drinking Age ). The chief of police in the college town of Boulder, Colorado, states that The
abuse of alcohol and the overconsumption of alcohol and DUI driving. Those are the areas we
ve gotta focus our efforts. Not on chasing kids around trying to give em a ticket for having a cup
of beer in their hand ( The Debate On Lowering The Drinking Age ). Even though the age
restriction would be lifted, a drinker s ID may be revoked if tampered with. For example, if a
young adult with a drinker s ID drove while under the influence or bought alcohol for a minor then
his ID would become invalid and ineligible to be reclaimed. Efforts by the United States government
to put effective, drinker s ID programs into action would stimulate teenagers to stop revolting against
law enforcement and comply
TV Show Scandal Analysis
Why the TV Show Scandal is Relevant to Black Actresses Actress DeWanda Wise shared how the
evolution of black women in both television and film struck her and how she always saw actress
Kerry Washington and her show Scandal as the turning point. According to Wise, when Scandal
premiered in 2012, she noticed how the auditions started to change. She found herself being
tested on a lead character s role and no longer tied to the sidekick role she always auditioned for.
When the show ended after seven seasons, people were hearing about stories on how a number of
black actresses auditioned for the highly coveted role of Olivia Pope on Scandal. The show s
creator Shonda Rhimes confirmed the story on how every black actress wanted to get the role... Show

In fact, Gabrielle Union, another actress who auditioned for the role eventually got the lead part
of a television movie called Being Mary Jane. It became the highest rated series on BET. In 2014,
Rhimes once again, cast a black actress for another series. Viola Davis nabbed the role of
Annalise Keating in How to Get Away with Murder. Soon after, even Taraji P. Henson who also
auditioned for Scandal landed her own television series called Empire. Other shows that followed
suit included Queen Sugar starring Rutina Wesley, Bianca Lawson, and Dawn Lyen Gardner.
Regina King also got her own series, American Crime while Sanaa Lathan grabbed the role in Shots
Fired. The trend for shows with black actresses as the leading role continue to grow. We have Issa
Rae on Insecure, Tracee Ellis Ross for Black ish, and Yara Shahidi on Grown ish. All of these black
characters and black actresses on television can thank Olivia Pope for paving way for the entry of
female black led series. The success of the Scandal will live on the lives of the black actresses on
television even as the show has ended this year. Everyone will remember how the D.C. fixer has
created more opportunities and opened doors for black actresses to show their black girl magic on
Religious Influence In The Aztec s Judicial System
The Aztec Empire upheld a very sophisticated, potent, and harsh legal system. The judicial system
they had resembles a modern one today: it was made up of multiple courts with differing levels of
jurisdiction, such as trial courts, appellate courts, and a supreme court. Moreover, citizens could
appeal rulings to a higher court if they did not agree with the ruling they were given from the judge.
Although the Aztecs were very religious, they preferred to be swift and empirical when it came to
the law, choosing to judge a criminal without their religious beliefs interfering. This, however, did
not apply to the sentences and punishments given to the criminals. Some sentences were given
without their religion interfering, such as slavery and mutilation. In other cases, punishments, such
as human sacrifice, were for a religious purpose. These harsh sentences and punishments helped the
AztecEmpire effectively instill fear into the people, which helped maintain control.
The court system was comprised of various courts with different levels of jurisdiction. These courts
were the trial courts, appellate courts, and a supreme court. The trial courts were known as Teccalli
courts, and heard civil and criminal cases involving commoners; civil judgments by this court were
considered final, but criminal sentences could be appealed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

In regard to religious influence, it didn t reach all of the judicial systems. There were common
sentences that were given out without their religion interfering, but there were also other cases, such

very effective in ingraining fear into the Aztec citizens. What allowed the Aztec Empire to hold so
much power over their people was their efficient legal system, harsh punishments, and an unforgiving
Analysis Of The Poem Mending Wall

Mending Wall a poem by Robert Frost seems to take place in countryside estate. Main theme in the
poem is, whether the wall is necessary to have the good relation between neighbors. Narrator seems
to think the wall is not so necessary as it separates him and his neighbor. However, he does find
talking to his neighbor about the wall. but does provide a sense of privacy which is not bad. Frost is
separating habit and and tradition on one side and logics on another. Frost is drawing tradition on
one side and logic and reason on one side. He says that sometimes it is unnecessary to put an extra

Neighbors tend to repair the wall every spring just to find it destroyed next year.
Despite of the fact that narrator is one of those neighbor who likes the wall, it is narrator who first
reminds his neighbor to repair the wall. Moreover, the narrator walks along the point in spring to heal
the damaged wall that has been done by hunters. Narrator is more active than his neighbor finding
evidence in (line 12) I let my neighbor know beyond the hill . Both the work very hard to build
the wall depicting from We wear our fingers rough with handling them [stones]. The poet gives
flawless idea how this separating walls unite two neighbour. The narrator is skeptical of this
tradition, he is unable to understand the need of wall where there is no livestock on the property
only the pine trees and apple trees. Both of them decides to walk along the wall and pick up the
stones from their respective sides. Some stones are in shape of bread loaves and some like round
balls.
In this poem, neighbor repeats the phrase, Good fences make good neighbor . Narrator tries to
explain his neighbor that there is no need to build the wall and condemn for being old fashioned and
maintaining the tradition so stringently. Neighbor believes that rebuilding the wall, strengthens the
bond between them and helps each person to respect the each other. Narrator sees the job of
rebuilding of a wall as a game but the neighbor takes this job more
Ceremonies In Australian Aboriginal Culture
In Australian Aboriginal people s culture ceremonies play a very important role to this day.
Ceremonies (or rituals) are still performed in Australia in order to ensure plentiful plant supply and
animal supply for food. The dances contrast in different regions and territories, and they are a very
important part of education for the youth. Some ceremonies for the youth ages of 10 16 were a rite
of passage because the rituals would represent a point of transition from childhood to adulthood.
Most of these ceremonies include a combination of song, dance, rituals, and body decoration and
costume. The Elders would organize and run the rituals and ceremonies that were designed to teach
spiritual beliefs and survival skills. Marriage ceremonies included the Aboriginal people in body
paint and they would wear traditional headdresses.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The ceremonial dresses can vary from region to region but usually includes body paint,
ornamental coverings, and brightly colored feathers. The body decoration is said to be related to
kin and other relationships. Some of the Australian groups hold their dances secret and sacred.
Also, gender was very important in some of the ceremonies, men and women would have
separate ceremonial traditions. Many of their ceremonies took place on stages so it could be a
part of a longer process lasting over many years. Ceremonies around death would vary, depending
on the person and the group, they could go on for months or even years. Aboriginal people would
perform funeral ceremonies because the death of a person can be very important. The people
would paint themselves white and they would cut or wound their own bodies to show their sorrow
for the loss of the loved one. The Aboriginal people conduct a series of dances, rituals, and songs to
safeguard as the spirit leaves the area and returns to its birth

Dracula Interpretive Essay
In Bram Stoker s Dracula, we are introduced to the monster that is Dracula. Throughout his Stoker
touches on several themes of Dracula s monstrosity. This paper will explore Bram Stoker s Dracula
under the theory of, The Monster Dwells at the Gates of Difference The rejection of modernity,
sexual expression, and the xenophobic threat from Old World Europe are all gates of difference that
Stoker touches on.
Dracula dwells at the gates of difference, first at the gates of modernity. Which Stoker has Dracula
reject and overcome the modern world. This is shown early in the novel, Harker becomes
uncomfortable with his lodgings and his host at Castle Dracula, he notes that unless my senses
deceive me, the old centuries had, and have, powers of their own which mere modernity cannot
kill. The turn of the century was bringing about major changes to English society. Beliefs that
were held with such strength for years were being challenged. Stoker writes Dracula throughout
as a monster who easily avoids and defeats these modern ways. For example, modernist devotee
characters such as Mina and Dr. Seward were focal points in showing how without knowledge of
the Old World they were helpless to help or even venture logical guesses about how to help Lucy
after she was attacked. It was only until Van Helsing who did have the old knowledge that they
were able to render any aid to her once so ever. Finally, Stoker writes in
