Urban Sprawl, Inner City Growth, And Suburban Developments
Recently, people in different displines have vigorously discussed and suggested issues, goals, and
principles to create better future settlements to fight against problems of urban sprawl, inner city
decline, and suburban developments. As a part of these efforts, several sustainable models (e.g.,
smart growth, new urbanism, sustainable development, resilient community, or etc.) have been
proposed and implemented. Please discuss topics below.
Q 1. Several decades ago, suburban was one of the utopias where people wanted to live. But some
things are changing now. What were/are the major causes of the current emergence of sustainable
models? Please make good arguments based on the history of suburban development, urban sprawl,
inner city ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Besides, improved infrastructure and rise in living standard made these suburbs more attractive. So
people are willing to sacrifice more commuting time to live in these suburban communities. From
development perspective, irrational development overrules reasonably urban planning, and led to
unprecedented development in suburbs. Another factor that contributes to urban sprawl is rise in
population, the fact that the number of people live in cities exceed the capacity means people
have to move out. The last reason could be people s preference, people want larger homes, more
rooms, bigger balconies and bigger lawns, so when it is economically feasible, people will move to
suburban.
Some of the negative effects of urban sprawl include increased public expenditure, because to
develop these suburbs, the cities have bring more infrastructure and the money usually comes
from tax payer. The second is increased traffic, because typical urban sprawl makes commuting
time longer, when it lack public transportation, people have to drive more car, it will cause more
traffic jam, more air pollution and more auto accidents. The third is health issue, people live in
suburbs excise less because they rely on cars to go to groceries, churches etc. The forth problem is
Causes And Symptoms Of Hantavirus Pulmonary Syndrome
Hantavirus Pulmonary Syndrome

I.Background
CW, an 18 year old Caucasian male, presented at a rural hospital located in northwest New
Mexico. CW complained of flu like symptoms including a headache, chills, vomiting, diarrhea,
fever, and myalgia for the previous two to four days (Staff, 2014). He stated within the past 24 to
48 hours he had developed a productive cough, a tightening in his chest, and shortness of breath.
When questioned what, his activities were prior to the onset of symptoms he stated he was a
student and played tight end for the football team. When probed further he stated one to two weeks
prior he cleaned some sheds on his parent s farm. While waiting on lab results from the bloodwork,
CW went into respiratory distress. He was intubated and sent to the ICU for supportive care.
II.Physical and Laboratory Findings
On examination, the physician listened to CW s lungs, noting there was diminished lung sounds with
crackling. Chest X ray showed acute pneumonia in both lungs. The physician also noted swelling in
CW s chest and neck area (Cunha, 2015). Blood was drawn with a heparinized vacutainer tube and a
serum separator vacutainer for serology, and reverse transcriptase polymerase chain raction testing.
While CW was in intubation there were lung tissue samples obtained for the immunohistochemistry.
The serum lab results showed, on a smear, there was evidence of immature leukocytes (Cunha,
2015), as well as an increase in virus specific IgM. An acute and
Wnt Signaling Pathway
The notch pathway is a new avenue in battling melanoma which holds promise in preventing
chemoresistance. The notch pathway is an evolutionarily conserved embryonic cell pathway
important for cell fate and differentiation.32 Studies have suggested that dysregulated notch
signaling can prolong and confer life to cancerstem cells, which are thought to be important in tumor
chemoresistance.33 Other studies have shown that notch activation promotes melanoma
tumorigenesis and progression.32 Thus, therapeutic benefit of targeting notch signaling includes
preventing tumor angiogenesis, cancer stem cell depletion, and cell death.34 The notch receptor
family consists of four transmembrane receptors (Notch 1 4).35 Recent research on melanoma cells

The mechanisms underlying melanoma invasion are presently poorly understood. The Hippo
pathway (the Salvador Warts Hippo) is an evolutionarily conserved mechanism in charge of tissue
and cell growth.42 Downstream in the Hippo pathway are YAP and TAZ effector proteins which are
amplified in many cancers and promote epithelial mesenchymal transition a frequent hallmark of
metastasis.43 In a model of skin reconstruct, YAP overexpression led to increased melanoma cell
invasiveness, and YAP knockdown led to decreased metastasis potential.43 Thus, mutations in the
Hippo pathway yield increased activation of YAP and TAZ, which promote metastasis regardless of
BRAF mutation status in melanomas.42,44 Current research is examining verteprofin,44 a molecule
that inhibits YAP function and whether or not it can successfully regulate Hippo effector functions

Burnout In Policing
Burnout in police officers has been affixed to policing. Burnout is described by symptoms relating to
emotional exhaustion, depersonalization and reduced sense of personal accomplishment (Johnson,
Todd and Subramanian 2005; Jackson and Maslach 1982). It will be argued that burnout is not
entirely unfavourable. Maslach and Schaufeli (1993) argued that when professionals are burned out,
job performance quality is jeopardized. They also indicate that burnoutis not limited to the police
service, as they state that burnout has been extended beyond the traditional borders of the human
services . They may concur, for the reason that burnout is not limited to policing, that stressshould
not be proclaimed as inherent to the police service.
William Shakespeare s Oedipus Tyrannus
Oedipus Tyrannus is a play written by Sophocles, and it deals with the interactions between divine
justice/fate and human control in the events that take place for Oedipus. He is the son of King
Laius and Queen Jocasta but he was given away as an infant due to news of a horrid oracle that
would destroy the kingdom and his parents. Apollo s oracle shows that Oedipuss destiny and life as a
whole was already predetermined before he was born and that Oedipus has no choice that would
affect those events. However the entire play is about the choices Oedipus is making, the
investigation that brings him down is his own and the curse under which he falls is the one he
utters from his own mouth. Oedipus goes from a prideful, arrogant and heroic king to a
condemned humble man due to his tragic fate at the end of the play. Oedipus may not be happy
towards the end of the play as opposed to the beginning but he reaches a point in which he is
content. Oedipus is less free at the beginning of the play as compared to the end because he is
tied down by the miasma and hubris that surround him after he killed his father. In the end of the
play Oedipus finally has full knowledge of who he is, and he blinds himself in a rage of
penitence, accepting total responsibility, by saying his actions as well as the god s fate are
responsible for what he did, and he is determined to take the punishment of exile as well.
Oedipus s character has changed drastically from the beginning of the play to the end.
The Republican Party Platform Of 1860
As the Republican Party Platform of 1860 came into existence, there were

situations that occurred in the United States that were inevitable. The civil war was

inevitable, just as the many other occurrences that happened and were yet to happen.

Without the Republicans arising in that time and creating a platform to abide by, life in

the United States would have erupted. The platform was created to secure the union and

to stop succession by the south and to abolish slavery. Another issue the Republicans

brought forward to society to view was that majority of what the Constitution stated, was

being neglected or against in the times before 1860. They further developed a principle

that will forever, permanently, cease into existence, which will demand its peace and

achievement in the United States.

The act of disunion predominantly went unnoticed to the Republican Party. By

the act of sectional divisions in the Constitutional Union Party, it presented in

significance of denying a free government. Amongst the other parties, Democratic

members advocated threats of disunion. However, the Republicans did not evidently join

in these threats of disunion and feel that they should be applauded for this because the

threats were vital to the central government that was yet to exist. Through this

occurrence, the Republicans did not want to separate because they believed that the

denial of a free government was a part of treason. They wanted the United
Sterilization and Disinfection in a Dental Office Essays
There are two important things to do in a dental office in order to prevent cross infection. These two
forms are sterilization and disinfection. According to the CDC and the Food and Drug
Administration before either of these forms can be used you have to clean the instruments. This can
be done either by hand or by using an ultrasonic cleaner.

Even though both sterilization and disinfection are both important there is a big difference between
the two. Sterilization is the process of killing all microorganisms. Where disinfection is the process
of destroying pathogenic organisms or rendering them inert. The centers for disease control says
there is one cardinal rule for infection ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

This form is as it sounds, dry heat utilizes hot air that is either free from water vapor, or has very
little of it, and where this moisture plays a minimal or no role in the process. The way dry heat
sterilizes is by coagulating the proteins in any organism, thus causing drying of cells. Dry heat can
even burn them to ashes. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dry_heat_sterilization The last form of
sterilization I am going to talk about is cold sterile. The reason for cold sterile is not all items can
go into heat sterilization. Liquid sterilant, such as 2% to 3.4% glutataldehyde, must be used for this
type of sterilization. In order for the cold sterile to work the items must be fully submerged for no
less than 10 hours, anything less than that would only be disinfection. This form of sterilization also
requires a material safety data sheet due to it being a chemical.

Why Mitochondria And The Cell With Versatile Operating...
Abstract:
Although mitochondria and chloroplasts encodes handful of their own proteins, however, majority
of their required proteins have to be synthesized in the cytosol and translocated into their correct
destinations using specialized transporting networks: TOM/TIM complexes in mitochondria and
TOC/TIC complexes in chloroplasts. Molecular chaperones play critical roles in facilitating
functional competent protein import from the cytosol to their correct destinations, utilizing catalytic
motor components and other transporting channels. Biogenesis of both mitochondria and
chloroplasts and their maintenances in terms of transcription, translation and protein import into
their various numerous compartments requires very tight coordination to overcome energetic
barriers, protein aggregation and protein degradation. This essay describes molecular chaperones
involvement in protein import from the cytosol into these double membraned organelle
compartments.
Introduction:
Mitochondria are the powerhouse of the cell with versatile operating systems (i.e. converts energy
derived from foods into cellular energy e.g. ATP, Amino Acid and lipid metabolisms, iron sulphur
clusters and haem biosynthesis, and also the regulation of apoptosis) (Harbauer et al., 2014,
Bolender et al., 2008, Wiedemann et al., 2004). Equally, chloroplasts are also very versatile and
operates several metabolic and cellular processes (i.e. photosynthesis, amino acid and lipid
metabolism, cellular signalling and
The Cheesecake Factory
I am recommending a short of The Cheesecake Factory ( CAKE or the Company ).
According to the Company, The Cheesecake Factory created the upscale casual dining segment in
1978 with the introduction of its namesake concept. For the namesake brand, the Company s
identity and reputation for offering high quality desserts results in a substantially higher dessert
mix, at ~16%, which consequently generated a higher average check at over $20 in the past two
years. The Company is among the most differentiated casual dining concepts and CAKE s per unit
sales, at over $10.5 M, is a leading metric among its peers. The short thesis is partially predicated on

Developing A Specialized Not For Profit Advocacy Group
Our solution is to develop a specialized not for profit advocacy group, which focuses on policy
change and bridging the gap between local government, non profits, and the federal government.
Furthermore, we will fill the void within these entities with additional resources. Our group will
be composed of a full time paid staff, a board of specialized individuals (ex. Lawyers, professors,
government officials), and a network of community volunteers. Our staff will handle the day to
day operations necessary for an efficiently run business, while our board of specialized
individuals will donate their time/services for tasks outside the capabilities of staff members (on
an as needed basis). The group of community volunteers will be a tremendous asset to the
advocacy group, by providing services to those facing hardship from unemployment. Regardless of
a person s position, paid or unpaid, each member of our advocacy group will work as partners of
the organization. It will function as a democratic body, as opposed to the bureaucratic structure
mostly seen in government and nonprofit agencies. Our advocacy group focuses on 3 aspects to aid
in reducing unemployment 1) Implantation of resources for the general unemployment population;
2) Acting as the middleman between government and the private sector services; 3) Policy Reform.
Newark has many nonprofits that assist with career services, job matching, and training, however
they are specialized for particular groups of people. The

FACTS based reactive power compensation of wind energy conversion system

abstract

Voltage control and reactive power compensation in a distribution network with embedded wind
energy conversion system (WECS) represent main concern of this paper. The WECS is of a fixed
speed/constant frequency type that is equipped with an induction generator driven by an
unregulated wind turbine. The problem is viewed from short term (10 seconds) and mid term (10
minutes) time domain responses of the system to different wind speed changes. Being disturbed by
a variable wind speed, the WECS injects variable active and reactive power into the distribution
network exposing nearby consumers to excessive voltage changes. In the FACTS based solution ...

Wind power plant induction generator is viewed as a consumer of reactive power. Its reactive
power consumption depends on active power production. Conventionally, shunt capacitor banks are
connected at the generator terminals to compensate its reactive power consumption. In some
schemes, shunt capacitor banks could be automatically switched on/off by using feedback signal
from generator reactive power. The capacitor switching is triggered through an algorithm if a
generator reactive power is outside an allowed dead band for a specified time period. Further on,
continuous voltage control and reactive power compensation at the point of the WECS network
connection is provided by using FACTS based device. Among FACTS devices, the Unified Power
Flow Controller (UPFC) is chosen due to its versatile regulating capabilities. The UPFC consists of
shunt and series branches, which could be interchangeably used. Being located at the point of the
WECS connection to the distribution network, it is made possible to simultaneously control the
WECS bus voltage magnitude and/or series reactive power flow that WECS exchanges with the
network. This countermeasure is expected to contribute in making assessed wind site viable for
connecting larger number of wind turbines.

ABOUT FACTS

With the rapid development of power electronics, Flexible AC Transmission Systems (FACTS)
devices have been proposed and implemented in power systems. FACTS devices can be utilized to
Moral Relativism Defended Summary
In Gilbert Harman s Moral Relativism Defended . He claims that we make inner judgements
about people only if we suppose that they are capable of being motivated by relevant moral
considerations (RMCs). He goes on to claim that such moral considerations present an logical
oddity if it were applied to people outside our RMCs, where he cites examples like Hitler and the
employee from Murder, Incorporated to further illustrate this fact. I do not subscribe to his treatment
of such examples, and I argue that the logical oddities he points out in those examples are flawed.
They are flawed in the sense that such oddities cannot be explained vis à vis inner arguments, but
rather without any reference to relativism at all. Harman has made two claims about inner
judgements. Firstly that They... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
His examples may seem to further affirm the fact that once agents are out of our motivational
reach, any inner judgements about them present a logical oddity ,but yet not all his examples are
equally improper (logically odd) as each other. This suggests that logical oddities he points out in
the examples are flawed. Firstly let us consider a scenario involving Spike in his car and a
pedestrian. When Spike collides with a pedestrian, by saying you should not have done such a
thing , my inner judgement is justified. Of course Spike could come up with a explanation the
brakes failed! . In this case our inner judgement may have been too hasty, even false. However
what remains is still a logically valid inner judgement regardless of how hasty or false it is. It does
not become senseless. If we now turn to the car and blame it for the collision, that would then
become a senseless act. This has been illustrated clearly by the example which Harman brings up of
the intelligent beings from outer space . He tries to
