The Cask Of Amontillado, Good Country People, And The Lottery
The dark side of human nature has been present throughout the course of life as illustrated in The
Cask of Amontillado, Good Country People, and The Lottery. The darkness is a predominant theme
as expressed by a few character traits throughout the short stories. Humans have been responsible for
acts of care and compassion, yet the dark side of humannature overcomes them through the themes
of pride, self preservation, and deception which throughout the short stories gives evidence of the
dark side of human nature.
Pride has built the characters up and blinded them to the point where they undertake horrible actions.
Pride has corrupted and transformed the nature of the characters as expressed by Montresor when he
introduces his desire for vengeance against Fortunato, The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Old man Warner lectures about conspiracies of shutting down the lottery, Pack of crazy fools,
listening to the young folks. Nothing s good enough for them, they ll be wanting to go back to
living in caves, nobody works anymore, live that way for a while (Jackson 3). The Lottery is an
extreme example of self preservation in society. They were so used to killing off one person every
year they can t differentiate right from wrong. Old man Warner acts as if someone had insulted him
by insisting on cancelling the lottery. Today, society has fallen into a lull of constant eviland it can t
tell itself that something it s doing wrong is not right. An important moment occurs when joy is
contemplating taking off her leg for Manly, No one ever touched it but her. She took care of it as
someone else his soul, in private and almost with her own eyes turned away. No, she said (O

Gambling No Matter The Stake Gambling Essay
For every winner there is a loser, this being very prevalent in gambling no matter the stake.
Gambling regulations exist all over the country as there is a basis of set laws that are put forth by
the government, such as the ability to not buy a lottery ticket until the age of 18 and not being able
to fully access a casinountil the age of 21. On the topic of individual state, states have the power to
control who gambles and how by setting forth regulations on the topic of gambling, such as recent
applications that involve daily fantasy and the ability to win money from those that have begun to
become outlawed by certain states. Gambling regulations have caught my attention as I have grown
older and come to see how much gambling is involved with from online poker, daily fantasy, betting
on sports, casino games, lottery tickets, and much more certainly not limited to those. Knowing the
impact gambling can have its hard not to notice all of the talk surrounding sports involving Las
Vegas and the odds makers, the commercials that would air promoting online poker or the daily
fantasy with the all day tournaments, the lottery ticket machines in gas stations and convenient
stores, and so forth. Gambling regulations have brought forth 3 concrete sides being gamblers
themselves, casino operators, and those who decide gambling regulations whether at the federal
level or state thus allowing myself to take a position in the argument of gambling regulations. A topic

Concepts Of The Group Dynamics Essay
Introduction
The report aimed to give the detailed look at the concepts of the group dynamics and the ability to
recognise and reflect on its own and others behaviours in an experiential group of each lab session.
The group is made up of six people they are Siu, Wing, Olivia, Shae, Shelby and I (Min).
Johnson and Johnson (2013) argued that group as a number of individual who join together to share
or serve various purposes including goal, independence and interpersonal interaction, structured
relationship. Finley (2002) categorized the types of therapy group as activity groups and support
groups. Activity group mainly incorporated into task and/or social component. Task groups focus on
developing skills and tend to produce individual and the end products.
In fact, the group is formed based on the task group to complete any tasks required in each lab
session in the meantime each member is able to develop their skills participates in the group work
and contribute the ideas of the final products. All the group members get together to achieve a goal
in each activity. For example, the group goal is to build the tallest Spaghetti Tower to beat the other
groups in the Spaghetti Tower activities. The group members are also interdependent and
interpersonal interaction with each other to understand the rules or instruction in each task. For
example, when we mentioned the Egg Drop activity everyone was confused with the instruction in
the beginning and started questioning. Shelby

think less of me if I let my sword... My hands Alone shall fight for me (168 173). Beowulf shows
great amount of bravery throughout the epic poem. His actions make him an epic hero because
he posses the quality of being brave and his courage gains fame from the people of Herot.
Bravery shows that the hero has the qualities to face fears, danger, and difficulties. People look up
to that as well and they praise the people who show bravery. The quality of being brave is an
essential for being a hero. In order to be called a hero , they must possess this quality. The heroic

Case Analysis on San Fabian Supply Company
Case Analysis on San Fabian Supply Company (Philippines)
The San Fabian Supply Company is a building materials distributor which supplies the materials to
the Philippine construction industry mainly on an exclusive only basis. Now one of its suppliers
MacDowell Corporation notified San Fabian Supply Company that the exclusive distributor
agreement would be terminated in four months. So the company has to make a decision whether to
handle MacDowell Corporation s products on a nonexclusive basis or to drop the line completely.
As discussed in our group, we think San Fabian Supply Company and MacDowell Corporation
should find a way to accomplish win win, and selective distribution may be a good way.

The San Fabian Supply Company was an aggressive building supply outfit, but did not have a
roofing line. So the MacDowell Corporation s product line was needed by San Fabian Supply
Company. At the same time, MacDowell did not know the market and lacked relationship in
construction industry in the Philippines. As the exclusive distributor of MacDowell Corporation s
products, San Fabian Supply Company was stimulated to make great efforts to push the sales. In
1986, the total sales volume of MacDowell Products was 44,051,000 pesos, which accounted for
13.74% of the total sales of San Fabian Supply Company.
However, MacDowell Corporation believes that changing the relationship with San Fabian Supply
Company will make it benefit more. On one hand, MacDowell has been marketing its products
through an exclusive distributor only in the Philippines and the parent company wants to market
the products same as in other countries. On the other hand, the demand for construction materials
has decreased since the expansion of its plant in the Philippines before. MacDowell Philippines
plant operating rate was very low, at only about 45% capacity, and the overcapacity plagued the
company a lot. To get rid of this situation, MacDowell Philippines wants to increase sales and its
new president believes that having more dealers can lead to more sales. So MacDowell wants to
change the relationship with San Fabian Company in the
Scapegoats In The City Of Omelas
A scapegoat can be anything, a person, an object, or even a group of people. The idea of
scapegoating has been prevalent in history for a very long time an example being Germany with
the Nazis and using the Jews as their scapegoat for blaming the problems of society on.
Scapegoats show a lot about a community and reveal a lot about how willing a group of people is
to deal with there issues like in the short story the city of Omelas, this is also apparent in the
lottery and the article Muslims: The Modern day Jews? In the city of omelas, a young child referred
to as it which ensures all the suffering of the town living in a cell, unclenched and unnurtured so that
the town can be happy. Everyone in the town is aware of the existence

J Alfred Prufrock
The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock by T. S. Elliot is a poem that tells a character s story with the
use of emotions and imagery. The character J. Alfred Prufrock is first introduced as taking a walk
and describing the surroundings such as vacant streets and dreary sights. Women are also
introduced as talking about Michelangelo. The setting is covered in a yellow fog that stretches
over every detail of the town. Prufrock s emotions at first seems to be confident with the ladies.
As the poem progresses, Prufrock is seen more as an average middle aged man, but also a sad
honest man. He seems to stick to a routine and does not stray from it much. His bland personality is
not much of an appeal to the women, thus making him pathetic. In The Love Song of J. Alfred

The first setting is the sky described Like a patient etherized upon a table (line 3). This
meaningful illustration can also be used to describe Prufrock s current dilemma. His hesitance
causes his inability to act just as a patient would be if he or she was etherized or desensitized.
Eliot s depiction of the city is also done in a creatively, symbolic way. In An overview of The
Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock , Marisa Pagnattaro states that the setting contains a seductive
feline tone . He uses personification to give a yellow fog catlike qualities such as Licked its
tongue into the corners of the evening / Lingered upon the pools that stand in drains (Eliot 17
18). This enticing mood is used to pair with the women that Prufrock is interested in. T.S. Eliot
ends his poem with another use of imagery by saying Combing the white hair of the waves blown
back / When the wind blows the water white and black (Eliot 127 28). This detailed description of
Prufrock s fantasy helps the readers visualize what he desires. It is also ironic to see how different
his whimsical dream is to his lonesome

The research design is appropriate for answering the research question, which was determining the
consequences and perspectives from patients and health care providers on the new policies
mandating smoke free hospital properties. The research design is appropriate because ethnographic
research is based on studying patterns of behaviour within a culture. This study was based on
studying patterns of behaviours on smoking policies but the study mostly aimed to gain
perspectives from a variety of individuals. Ethnographic method is great for the study in the fact
that it can be used to include behavioural and cognitive perspectives, which in this case the study
focused on observing behaviours of smoking and if the policies were being followed and also
included the perspectives on the new smoke free policies. Also ethnographic research usually focuses
on studying one culture. This study did try to focus on one specific culture, but the population had
diversity consisting of smokers and non smokers. The culture that was viewed in the study was
tobacco use and management. Sample and Setting It was stated in the study s paper that sampling
was designed to enhance the diversity of perspectives heard from each study site while achieving
comparable diversity between sites. (p.1335). Sampling methods that were used to target diversity
include convenience and stratified quota strategies to recruit participants

There are two types of pressure gauges for determining the amount of air in a scuba cylinder. A
surface cylinder pressure gauge is used to check the amount of air in the cylinder above water. It
attaches to the cylinder valve in the same manner as a regulator to provide a one time check of
cylinder pressure. A bleed valve relieves trapped pressure so the gauge can be removed when the
cylinder valve has been closed.
Dive Computers may allow longer dive times because they compensate for time spent at varying
depths throughout a dive compared to the square dive profiles required for the use of most tables.
A compressor operates on the principle of Boyle s Law reducing the volume increases the pressure.
The air is compressed in stages.

The Employment Status Of Workers Essay
INTRODUCTION
It is certainly true that the current law defining the employment status of workers is uncertain, as
it is wholly inflexible to deal effectively with cases of non standard forms of employment, atypical
workers, for example: agency workers, part time workers, fixed term workers, as required workers
and homeworkers. Thus, reform is necessary to redress the concerns of lack of legal certainty in
relation to this area of the law.
This essay will argue that the concept of worker defined under section 230 of the Employment
Rights Act ( ERA ) 1996 is board; however, due to the undefined scope of section 230(3) of ERA
1996, employment tribunals and the courts have adapted a rigid approach in their interpretation;
that there is a high degree of legal uncertainty as established in this area of law; that the law does
not adequately deal with non standard forms of workers ; present proposals for reform by the UK
Parliament on the interpretation and application of law at common; and finally provide a conclusion
for the arguments put forth.
THE CURRENT STATE OF THE LAW Firstly, employment tribunals and the courts have interpreted
the concept of workers too narrowly, by limiting the common law interpretation of workers under
section 230(3) of the ERA 1996 and rights conferred on workers. Under section 230(3) ERA 1996,
worker is defined as an individual who has entered into work: under a contract of employment, or
any other contract express or implied... to do
Short Story About The Midnight Theft
As the sun slowly settled, darkness began to overcome the Earth. Sickness had come. The
sickness slowly but readily crept into each home. It was the Midnight Theft. The destructive
plague stole during midnight it stole lives. Deep in the heart of Tukenasville, people were dying,
and the country was beginning to perish. The flowers withered as they bloomed. Animals fled to
holes to live out the last moments of their life. People were distraught, and chaos was invading
every planet in the macrocosm. People called me Nikolaos Gonzalo. I was the last of the Warriors
of Pos. Long ago, the Sisters of Moiré ordained my doomed fate. I tried to bargain with them to
change it, but in the end, I captured them and locked them up in a repository on a cliff. I was to lead
the expedition to find the curefor the Midnight Theft. That, however, was not the reason I would
go on this journey. My best friend, Totem, was dying of a rare illness called Takigifeay. It was
causing the slow built up of lactic acid on his bones. I knew that death would come to him soon.
Legend spoke about a necklace that can bring life to anyone or thing. Legend said that it have
belonged to an Oceanian, one of the water people. The Lost Jade Necklace of Serenity was what it
called, and it could bring healing to the Earth. Nonetheless, it could obliterate our civilization.
I began to pack since my journey was to start at that moment. I started going west toward the
Moonlight Cave. I was on a dangerous mission, and I
