Essay on The English Civil War
The English Civil War The English Civil War was a complicated, intellectual war between the two
most powerful forces in England: Parliament and the King. Conflicts between the two powers began
when King Charles I dissolved Parliament in 1625 because they would not give him the money he
demanded to fund his war against Spain. Parliament, who was lead by John Pym, felt that the King
was showing favouritism towards the Roman Catholics, especially since Charles had recently
married the Roman Catholic French Princess. Although Charles recalled Parliament in 1626, he
proceeded to dissolve the second Parliament mainly because it attempted to impeach him. John Pym,
who had been prevented from being elected to the second Parliament, was... Show more content on

While there were minor reforms to the system, the people, the Church and the Monarchy of
England went back to living their lives relatively the same as they had before the start of the
English Civil War. Violence during the English Civil war effected hundreds of thousands of
English civilians. However, while violence killed thousands of people...the impact of the war as a
war was surprisingly limited. Casualties during the war were high: 190 000 people died in
England and 868 000, or 11.6% of the population, perished within the British Isles. This number
was only a third of the amount of people who died in England during the great plague of 1570
1670. King Charles II was content with putting things aside and starting over again, and it
seemed like the people of England were too. Although women and children lost husbands and
fathers, their loses were quickly replaced by new husbands or relatives to help out. By the end of
the war, most people simply wanted to get on with their lives since there was nothing that they
could about the people they lost during the war. Many people forgot their differences and were
found even marrying across the barriers which were created during the war. Damaged property was
quickly repaired since it created jobs for civilians looking for work. Buildings were destroyed, but
since the war was not as explosive
Water Crisis In Flint
Water is the single most important commodity that every organism needs to survive. When
astronomers look for other inhabitable planets, one of the primary features they look for is the
presence of water. It would then logically be inferred that water is essential to modern human
society, but as seen with the water crisisin Flint, Michigan, it seems that isn t the case. Thousands of
people have encountered serious health problems and millions of dollars in damages have occurred,
and all of this has been a result an ignorant and irresponsible government switching water sources in
an effort to save money. In doing so, the government of Michigan ultimately caused adverse and
destructive effects on the city of Flint and its inhabitants. The current water crisis in Flint, Michigan
stems from government officials changing water sources. The government of Flint switched from
using the water of Lake Huron, which they had used for over 50 years, to using the water of the
Flint River, which had a high level of chloride. The high chloride level eventually led to the corrosion
of water pipes allowing unhealthy levels of chlorine and lead contamination. Additionally,
irresponsible and unreliable water treatment allowed even more contaminates to enter the city s
water source. All this pollutionultimately ended up in the homes of thousands of people, poisoning
families throughout the city. Lead poisoning can have disastrous effects on the human body, with
some symptoms including memory loss, anemia (lack of healthy red blood cells), kidney
dysfunction, and in severe... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An attempt to save money by changing water sources by an indifferent government caused hundreds
of millions of dollars in damages, negative health effects, and a total loss in faith in the government
of Michigan. Although measures have been taken to mitigate these problems, their effects have
already marred the city of Flint and its
The Dual Writing Style In Gillian Flynn s Gone Girl
Nick and Amy moved from New York City, where both were laid off from their previous jobs as
writers, to Nick s hometown of North Carthage, Missouri to care for Nick s cancer stricken mother
and his father with alzheimer s. The two have a quite imperfect marriage that is at times profoundly
one sided, but is disrupted when Amy goes missing. A search Amy quickly ensues, and as the
investigation progresses, the truth about Amy and Nick s not so wonderful marriagecomes out for all
to see. In this journal I will be predicting the possibility of Nick s involvement in the case,
questioning why the detectives won t rule Nick out as a possible suspect, and evaluating the dual
perspectivewriting style in Gone Girl.

Along with the rotating viewpoints, the two stories being told, by Amy and Nick, happen at
different times through the collective story. I usually dislike this writing method, but in this plot, I
think it works well. I like that the two do not tell the same story from different perspectives but
rather one tells the story and the other follows with a background perspective that gives some
insight as to the reasoning behind the actions and motives of the characters in the present. In the
case of this book, Nick is narrating the investigation of Amy s disappearance as chapters of Amy s
diary chronicle the past relationship between the two counterparts. The two perspectives
complement each other, but neither spoil the storyline, as dual perspective books tend to do. For
example, Amy often gives us accounts from Nick and Amy s early relationship. Her discoveries
from the dawn of their romance shows how the opposite family structures of the two partners change
how act in the present of their relationship: People say children from broken homes have it hard, but
the children of charmed marriages have their own particular challenges (Flynn 27). The two narrators
of the story give a deep understanding of the motives and actions without giving too many details
that might spoil the future of the
Analysis Of Blue Winds Dancing By Thomas Whitecloud
Being in a situation where one is questioning themself and who they truly are, can lead to many
conflicts not just within themselves, but within the ones that are surrounding. In the story Blue
Winds Dancing by Thomas Whitecloud and The Enormous Radio by John Cheever, both
protagonists face conflicts that affect both themselves and the ones that surround them. The conflicts
between the two stories are very prominent as they both show internal and external conflicts between
the lives of two very different people. Both protagonists develop an internal conflictwhich is a
mental struggle arising from opposing demands or impulses. The story Blue Winds Dancing
reflects on the life of the narrator who remains nameless. He has trouble identifying his own
identity and understanding where he belongs. He leaves the place he describes as a place where,
the trees grow tall in rows; the palms stand stiffly by the roadsides and in the groves the orange
trees line in military rows, and endless bear fruit. This is his comfort zone which also known as
Indian Society leaves to go study and live under white civilization. He realizes that he does not
belong there because he felt as if he was an outcast. He criticizes the society for being so
competitive and very different from his community. Where he is from, everyone is equal and very
appreciative of everything they have as they are not comping themselves to others. He then thinks
that maybe he is the problem and contemplates whether he can actually keep up with the white
civilization. The story The Enormous Radiostarts off with the main character being surprised with a
radio that her husband had purchased for her. When she realizes that the radio does not play
music and satisfy her love for it, she discovers that the radio is playing back the conversations that
go on in the apartments in her building. Irene quickly became addicted to listening because it gave
her a window into the lives of others. This causes her to lose interest in music because she is
constantly listening in on the lives of others. When she hears of the events that are taking place in
others apartments, she tells her husband, I ve been listening all day, and its so depressing. This goes

Capital Budgeting Techniques| |

GLOSSARY
Capital Budget: (1) The amount of money set aside for the purchase of fixed assets (e.g., equipment,
buildings, etc.). Also, (2) a request for authorization to purchase new fixed assets.
Mutually Exclusive Proposals: Consideration of two or more assets that perform the same function.
If one is chosen for purchase, the others are automatically rejected.
Profitability Index: A ratio of the present value of the benefits (PVB) to the present value of the
costs (PVC). The index is used instead of Net Present Value (i.e., PVB PVC) when evaluating
mutually exclusive proposals that have different costs.

As the picture above illustrates, the capital budgeting decision may be thought of as a ... Show more

Here are our decision rules: If the NPV is:| Benefits vs. Costs| Should we expect to earn at least our
minimum rate of return?| Accept the investment? | Positive| Benefits gt; Costs| Yes, more than|
Accept| Zero| Benefits = Costs| Exactly equal to| Indifferent| Negative| Benefits lt; Costs| No, less
than| Reject|
Remember that we said above that the purpose of the capital budgeting analysis is to see if the
project s benefits are large enough to repay the company for (1) the asset s cost, (2) the cost of
financing the project, and (3) a rate of return that adequately compensates the company for the risk
found in the cash flow estimates.
Therefore, if the NPV is: * positive, the benefits are more than large enough to repay the company
for (1) the asset s cost, (2) the cost of financing the project, and (3) a rate of return that adequately
compensates the company for the risk found in the cash flow estimates. * zero, the benefits are
barely enough to cover all three but you are at breakeven no profit and no loss, and therefore you
would be indifferent about accepting the project. * negative, the benefits are not large enough to
cover all three, and therefore the project should be rejected.
3. Internal Rate of Return
The Internal Rate of Return (IRR) is the rate of return that an investor can expect to earn on the
investment. Technically, it
The Phantom Of The Opera
Phantom of the Opera has been around for longer than I can recall, being the musical to talk about
among my family as something grand. When I was the age of only fourteen I received the honor of
performing the musical for the first time, although I had to learn a great deal about the script for that
performance, the history behind The Phantom of the Operais not clear to me. So I started my
research their tied to the original piece. Phantom of the opera.com gave a timeline that had the
background, explaining that the original piece was published in 1911 by Gaston Leroux.
(Timeline) The author was inspired by a trip to the Paris opera house, explaining that below the
Paris opera house is a lake, and that he recalled an accident in which the chandelier had fallen
some years earlier. (Hall, P.16) Sparking Gaston Leroux to make the book. The book from this
point was given to the hands of a movie producer making a silent film in November 1925. (The
Phantom of the Opera (1925)) The film after its first round was then re done two more times, one of
which was not a success. Andrew Lloyd Webberin May of 1984 hears about the theatre royals stage
performance and then comes up with the ideal to turn the book/ play at this time into a musical.
The musical took several awards and made countless new fans, finally being turned into a film by
Warner Brothers Dec, 22 2004, showing the same amount of success as the musical show. (The

Miriam Makeba influenced Texas by singing about civil rights and keeping her stature while being
exiled from her country. Life on it s own has its hardships, but imagine facing discrimination from
your home country and countries around the world. Makeba faced an innumerable amount of
hardships, yet still stayed true to her roots. She stood on her beliefs and never backed down.
Biography.jranks.org claims, Makeba faced conflict from the moment she was born. She served a
six month term at the age of two and a half weeks (Bigelow and Pendergast). Liptrott writes Makeba
s family facing further issues. Her father passed away sooner than expected

Makeba initially left South Africa to further her career and explore the world. Makeba said, If I had
not left South Africa, I do not think anything would have came out of it, and that is one of the
reasons why I left. There was no scope for me there as a black entertainer. In 1958, the South
African government passed a law where no blacks could perform in the cities. Anti apartheid
songs are not allowed to be sold or played on the radio. My songs have been banned since 1962
(youtube.com). She sang in welcoming countries, while still relaying her message to the people in
South Africa. During Makeba s career, there were strict rules concerning racial inequality in Africa
(apartheid). Gaylord notes Makeba left the country to pursue her career in other countries, but soon
felt regret when her mother passed away and was denied access into South Africa (csmonitor.com).
Makeba says, I never knew they were going to stop me from coming back (csmonitor.com). Makeba
was exiled from her own country because of her stance with apartheid
(southafricaproject.web.unc.edu). Bigelow and Pendergast comment, The South African
government did not agree or tolerate her opposing views (biography.jrank.org). Makeba being exiled
from her home country definitely caught the attention of others. Many countries gave Makeba
citizenship in support. She became a symbol for the world and it s struggle with racial inequality
