Advantages Of Cosmopolitanism
Assessment criteria
As for the core values of the proposed cosmopolitan model (and new shape of global political
order should, in our view, be cosmopolitan in nature), it is rooted in equal moral dignity of all
men. Cosmopolitanism has to pledge for global democracy of individuals (but also of ethnic groups
and states, at least in initial phases of reform process), where all people should ideally be authorized
to participate in decision making that would later oblige them. Differences in power (though
necessary and recommended to a certain point) must be put aside when deciding and ensuring decent
capabilities of every human being to follow its chosen life path. All states, individuals and groups
are treated equally. Shared and widely recognized human nature based on needs (not fixed, but ones
that are to be imagined and re defined always again) serves as a precondition for global deliberation
and insitution building, since the cosmopolitan authority may be maintained only if all individuals
and groups perceive themselves as relatively equal (in the sense their dignity or worth is the same as
those of others, and that they have enough material ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Also, supossed interest of future generations (not even born), as well as past generations (passed
away) are taken into account, in order to avoid the presentism in democracy. Along with the separate
care for natural environment and nature in itself, this makes obvious what is protected is the Life.
From the standpoint of global justice and international ethics, it is useful to consider establishing just
institutions as an obligation, apart from the obligation to personally do no harm to others. So, given
the fact that people participate in the creation and maintenance of institutions that allow drastic
negative effects on human beings (millions of people are dying of hunger, preventable diseases, the
violence that can be stopped etc.), one must question their responsibility, and think of duty to

Selfish Mrs. Mallard in The Story of an Hour

Kate Chopin s story, The Story of an Hour, may seem to be about Mrs. Mallard s unexpected and
ironic reactions to the news of her husband s untimely death due to a railroad disaster. At least that s
what I thought when I read the story. It seemed to me that she led a normal life with a normal
marriage. She had a stable home life with a kind, loving husband who cared for her. She seemed to
love him, sometimes. She had some kind of heart trouble (Chopin 25) that didn t really affect her
physically, until the very end. I thought Mrs. Mallard would have been saddened and filled with
grief for an adequate period of time after her spouse died, but her grief passed quickly, and she ...

One of my observations that I want to point out is that the author says she went away to her room
alone. Why couldn t it be to their room? This may be an example of Mrs. Mallard being a selfish
person, a bit possessive that is.

I think Mrs. Mallard had always wanted a life of her own. It was like a secret she kept to herself.
However, she couldn t have that life to herself with her husband around. A section of the story
describes the scene and events that take place when Mrs. Mallard is in her room alone. She sobs
occasionally and allows the grief to pass as she embraces the new beginning of her life. I believe
her husband loved her but I think that her husband s death opened a door to a new life for her that she
had hoped for. She sees a view from the window that maybe symbolizes what she wanted in this
new life of hers. The following passage describes it:

There was something coming to her and she was waiting for it, fearfully . . . But she felt it,
creeping out of the sky, reaching toward her through he sounds, the scents, the color that filled the
air. . . She was beginning to recognize this thing that was approaching to possess her . . . When
she abandoned herself a little whispered word escaped her lightly parted lips. She said it over and
over under her breath: Free, free, free! (Chopin 26)

How could she be so selfish and already be thinking about what her life was going to be like now
that her husband was dead? But to her
Gloria Rv 589 Essay
On the night of Thursday, January 19, the Neuqua Valley Music Department delivered an array of
opera pieces and additional music at the Masterworks Concert! With all music groups gathered
together, the emotions and passion for their music were very apparent.
To begin the concert, Gloria RV 589 was performed. This piece, by Antonio Vivaldi, served as a
biblical announcement of glory and peace to the shepherds at the Nativity by the angels. Eventually,
it turned into a hymn of praise.
To emphasize the feeling of celebration and glory in the first movement, Gloria In Excelsis Deo, the
orchestra began with a phrase consisting of frequent octave leaps followed by several 16th notes that
rarely had any rests in between. With the chorus singing together on the same rhythm of half notes
and whole notes, there is a fuller tone and grander sound that filled the whole auditorium. At one
point when the orchestra played their ritornello with the chorus, and both groups did the crescendo
together, it established the forte climax. Even though the orchestra had difficulty staying in tempo
with the conductor for some of the 16th notes, the overall emotion is still ... Show more content on

This piece was used in Gilbert s and Sullivan s comic opera, The Mikado. It consists of dramatic
love stories and astounding wit. Just from the beginning, the audience can sense the playful tone
from the light and constantly changing notes. In addition to the quicker tempo and forte sound,
adding the xylophone to the whole band establishes an impressive entrance. There was also a great
transition from the playful scene to a more serene one. The bass drums and cymbals were then used
to build the piece to the original melody once again. At the end of the piece, the whole band played
together while the xylophone filled in their rests. Although there were some players who weren t as
precise for the ending, it was still stimulating, which is the main purpose of the
Magical Realism In The Virgin Suicide

Literary Reference Center Plus. Web. 26 September. 2016. In Francisco s analysis of The Virgin
Suicides, he focuses of Eugenides magical realist writing style. He argues Eugenides uses magical
realism to persuade his audience to stop letting society define them. The criticism points out
Eugenides use of modern day morals, as his attempt to revive ethics in our society. The analysis
acknowledges how The Virgin Suicides fits so well into a post modern genre, as well as the role of
uncertainty, memory, and anticipation in the novel (29). Francisco mentions the narrator s ... Show

Shostak acknowledges Eugenides writing as a call for change within the modern era. Shostak
details the Lisbon Girls and their suicides as a great metaphor: representing what is wrong with the
country , being the novel s ultimate scapegoat [...] predicting the forthcoming decadence , or suicide
to reflect the natural deaths due to industrialization (207). Shostak sees many reasons for Eugenides
writing about the tragic death of young girls. Primarily, Eugenides is depicting the younger
generation as morally corrupted. Shostak argues Eugenides writes with a greater purpose than to
sadden his audience with horrible stories. Shostak argues Eugenides writes with the purpose to
educate his reader: to send morally equipped readers to face a corrupted world armed with opinions
and an understanding of tragedy. The Virgin Suicides raises awareness of teen suicide. Eugenides
begins many conversations with his works, particularly this dark love story, with underlying notions
to our disappointing world.

A dog s ability to predict an episode is also something profound. In fact, some have been able to

other two patients had epilepsy. After the article went to press, they saw three additional patients

study in which a patient was alerted by his dog 7 minutes prior to having psychogenic seizures.

Family Member Passing
The passing of a family member is transformational for most people. In this essay I will reflect on
two seemingly unrelated events which inspires me to apply for the University of Portland s
Doctor of Nursing Practice. Several years ago my fiancés mother was diagnosed with terminal
lung cancer and I assisted with the hospice care she received. I experienced palliative care from the
side of the caregiver and familymember. Since she was under fifty years old it was a surprise for
the family to face her terminal diagnosis. My involvement with her passing was deeply touching
and enlightening. One of the many lessons was to ask questions and to care for the patient and the
family members. At the same time of my mother in law s passing I was working
Business Etiquette Of United Arab Emirates
Business Etiquette in United Arab Emirates, Dubai
Dubai is one of the world s fastest growing economies. It is the most populous city in the United
Arab Emirates (UAE), and it is one of the seven emirates that make up the country. It is a busy city
with lots of businesses and opportunities. Like every city and country around the world, Dubai has its
own culture and etiquette policy in business regarding clothing, greetings, conversation, dining, and
gifts.
The way people dress is extremely important in business. People tend to make their first impression
on the way that someone s dressed. According to the article, Business Etiquette Around the World:
United Arab Emirates in Dubai, The modesty of your clothing is extremely important for men and
women. Be careful to not wear revealing clothes and to cover your shoulders, arms, and legs
(Bolduc). Men should wear darker colors suits and ties. It s viewed to be more professional.
Women can wear suits or skirts, but the hem should be below the knee. It is not necessary for non
Muslim women to wear the hijab, or headscarf unless they are planning to visit a religious site
during their business trip (Bolduc).
Greetings, as etiquette in Dubai, acknowledge and greet the most senior person in the room first. It
is a sign of respect in the Muslim culture (Bolduc). In the article, Business Etiquette Around the

Monae s Metropolis Saga
Monae s Metropolis Saga uses the cyborg as a metaphor for the oppressed, using cyborg bodies as
a stand in for black bodies and consequently drawing connections between the state of blackness
and the state of being cyborg. Monae herself speaks of her decision to choose an android because
the android to [her] represents the other in our society. (Kot 1) This is made specific to blackness
when, in the Metropolis Saga, Cindi time travels to the 20th and 21st centuries and is reborn as
Janelle Monae, becoming black rebels throughout history; accordingly, the line between cyborg
ontology and black ontology is blurred as she jumps between the two. Monae, additionally,
describes cyborgs as neon slaves, electric savages, making clear ties between... Show more content

If for Monae, black bodies are cyborg bodies, cyborg bodies have existed throughout history and
cannot be situated solely in the future. Consequently, Metropolis as a city centered around Cindi s
black cyborg body cannot be temporally alienated from history, and must reckon with it. More than
that, though, Metropolis itself is not just a vision of the future but of the past, a transhistorical
metaphor of oppression and liberation. This differs from traditional science fiction cyborg
representations because for Haraway and many others, the cyborg exists within a future world.
However, for Monae, the cyborg has always existed in the form of black bodies, and the science
fiction world serves only to illuminate this. Accordingly, the transhistoricality is the only way that
a cyborg can be raced and allows a raced cyborg to recognize and grapple with the dark history that
birthed it for Cindi, this means time traveling to literally participate in, change, and solve her
history. Perhaps this is best expressed by the name of Monae s upcoming album, presumably
containing the last two suites of the Metropolis Saga, Dirty Computer. The computer is the android;
however, the android retains its dirt, the dirt being the dark and dirty history of racializations and
blackness her cyborg refuses to be pristine and reject that history, instead
Drinking Water Is An Essential Part Of Life On This Planet...
An essential part of life on this planet is water. Water is in practically every living organism and it
is absolutely necessary that water is readily available when it is needed. Over seventy percent of
the planet is covered in water, of which only about three percent is fresh water that humans can
consume which a lot of is trapped in glaciers and icecaps (FAO). In many parts of the world, there
are places where fresh drinking wateris not available for people because it is contaminated or hard
to reach or some other kind of obstructive factor. In the current media, places of this nature include
Flint, Michigan where the water source is contaminated, the state of California where there is a
drought, and several places in Africa where there... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These new innovations do face some amount of opposition, however. There is not an enormous
amount of funding being put forth for finding new ways of generating fresh drinking water. There
are also not many scientifically proven techniques to do so. Currently, the only techniques that are
really implemented include: distillation, carbon filtration, membrane filtration, ultraviolet irradiation,
reverse osmosis, and ion exchange (Roush). However, these current techniques are very costly and
they require a large amount of energy to be used when done. Alternative techniques that are cheaper
and more energy efficient need to be given more attention and funding. Implementing new
biotechnology for water purification will leave a positive impact on society by creating a greater
amount of fresh, drinkable water, creating more readily available water sources in parts of the
world that are currently lacking, and by keeping a necessary resource for human life available in a
constantly consuming society. One place that has constantly gotten recognition in the current media
for having a lack of fresh drinking water is Africa. From lack of sources to undrinkable substances
in the water, ideas have been circulating about how to improve the situation there so that people may
get clean water.
