All Humans Are Monsters. That Is Not A Good Thing Or Bad
All humans are monsters.
That is not a good thing or a bad thing.
What makes a monster?
Dangerous. Monsters may harm, kill, destroy.
Irrational; unintelligible. The emotions and actions of monsters go beyond the supposed human
range, and so are difficult to relate to from a human perspective.
Inhuman. Monsters lie outside tidy concepts of what counts as human.
Unnatural. Monsters don t fit into categories. We break boundaries.
Overwhelmingly powerful. Monsters are not just other they are bigger than we think we are.
Simultaneously repulsive and attractive. Monsters are disgusting, impure, hideous and yet
mesmerizing, beautiful, awesome.
None of these needs to be a problem apart from destructiveness. That is something we need to come
to grips
Similarities Between Rome And Rome
Carthage s ideas and civilization was one which the Phoenicians had developed in the east. She
became powerful due to trade and commercial supremacy. The trading colonies of northern Africa
and many Greek cities of Sicily were under her control. Carthage was a wealthy merchant country,
trading in metals; gold, silver, tin, and iron, as well as all the products of both the east and the west.
(Morey, 1901) Rome and Carthageand Rome had similar governments. Rome had its consuls and
Carthage had two chief magistrates. Similar to the Roman senate Carthage had a council of
elders, called the hundred . Rome was more democratic, whereas Carthage was more aristocratic.
For the most part Carthage was ruled by a few wealthy aristocrats. Possibly Carthage s greatest
advantage over Rome was the fact that Carthage had one permanent leader of their army. Rome
had civil magistrates who changed over time. That lack of consistent leadership of the army was
a great disadvantage to Rome s ability to wage war and defend itself. (Morey, 1901) Compared to
Rome, Carthage had more wealth, but Rome was more organized. Rome had a powerful army and
Carthage had the more powerful navy. The secret to Rome s success was their loyal citizens.
During war if Rome needed ships, the citizens put up their own money to pay for the necessary
resources. Carthage s biggest... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The ships that the Romans had were triremes and the Carthaginians had a fleet of quinquiremes.
The difference between the two was the number of rows of oars. The quinquiremes had 5 rows of
oars and the Roman triremes had only three. Roman soldiers trained to row the quinquiremes at the
same time they were building a hundred 5 rowed vessels. Since the Romans were better at hand to
hand combat, the Romans put drawbridges on their ships so they could pull alongside the enemy s
vessel and cross over and attack the Carthaginians on their decks. (Morey,
Comparing Benchmark And The Journey
Benchmark The poem ¨Laughing Heart¨ talks about your life, and tries to persuade you to do
something meanwhile with it. The second poem ¨The Journey¨ talks about how you shouldn t
listen to everyone and how you have the right to make your own choices. Both poems give us
their perspective on how we should live life. Through these poems though you can see a deeper
meaning, a meaning about making decisions and life. In the first poem they tell us that we should
do something constructive with the life we are given and not just waste it away. The writer is very
urgent when she tells us that ¨you can t beat death, but you can beat death in life¨. What she means
by this is that in life you need to be seizing the opportunities you are given or else
Their Eyes Were Watching God By Zora Hurston Essay
Hurston In the novel Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neal Hurston is about a young
woman named Janie Crawford who goes on a journey of self discovery to find her independence.
The book touches on many themes like gender roles, relations, independence and racism however
racism isn t mainly focused upon in the book which some writers felt should have been. Some felt
that the representation of black characters should have been better role models. Zora Hurston s
novel wasn t like other black literature. The challenges of what black writers had to face in
representing black culture and history were manly focuses on racism and the representation of
black culture and history however Zora Hurston novel was about independence and turned away
from the stereotypical structure of black literature; focusing more on black women has to deal
with in a patriarchy structure. Which can be shown by Janie s relationships with her
grandmother, Logan Killlicks, Jody Stark , and Tea Cake. In the world she was living in we
learned how much her world was dominated by male oppression and so Janie tries to separate
herself from that. In the beginning of the book when Janie is telling her story to her best friend
Phoebe she mentions that she didn t know she was black when she was really young till she saw
herself in picture next to some white kids and didn t recognize herself. Nora Hurston brings this in
the book to show how far Janie had come by the end of the book. As a black women and also
Biography of Ronald Reagan Essay
Biography of Ronald Reagan
Somewhere at sometime a philosopher once said, The world is divided into two kinds of people:
those who are skeptical of others until the others prove themselves, and those who assume that other
people are good and decent unless proven otherwise. Ronald Reagan was one of those people who
assumed that other people are good and decent until otherwise proven. However if a person was to
ask another about Ronald Reagan they would give you another answer more than likely. Some
would say that he was an actor and didn_t know a thing about politics, others would say that he
believed in what he did and did what he felt needed to be done to improve a situation. Some would
say that he lived for others and put himself ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Moloney (Edwards 32). Shortly after Jack and Nelle were married they moved to a town called
Tampico, Illinois. Tampico was one third the size of Fulton with the population of about 1,276. It
was a standard Midwestern town with a couple lumberyards and drugstores. The social life
centered around school or church activities and patriotic holidays were an occasi! on for picnics
and firework displays. The community was fairly cohesive and its residents shared similar
educational and economical backgrounds. Few in the community had gone past grade school, and
most had never traveled as far Chicago and considered the nearby towns of Dixon and Fulton, which
were an equidistant 26 miles, an excursion (Edwards 33).
On September 16th, 1908, the Reagan_s had their first child John Neil Reagan. Later he would
acquire the nickname Moon after the comic strip character Moon Mullins. Then about two and a
half years later the Reagan_s had their second and final child Ronald Wilson Reagan. Ronald was
born on February 11th, 1911 at home because of the blizzard the previous night before which
made the roads impassable. The doctors comment after the birth was, For such a little bit of a
Dutchman, he makes a hell of a lot of noise, doesn_t he? (Edwards 33 34). Ronald was such a big

Fifty Shades Of Grey Analysis
Dominant Men versus Submissive Women
In Beaumont s version of Beauty and the Beast and Fifty Shades of Grey written by E. L. James,
the male figure is portrayed as beast like and dangerous whereas on the contrary the female is
vulnerable and submissive to the male. Both Beauty and Anastasia are in patriarchal relationships
and give into the desires of the dominant male figure in their lives and this creates a lack of power
for the female gender. Throughout Beaumont s version of Beauty and the Beast the idea of a
patriarchal relationship was evident between Beauty and the Beast. The Beast used the tactic of
manipulation and had complete control over Beauty ultimately leading to her falling in love with
him. Every night the Beast would ask ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Beauty and the Beast society was given a first hand look at the relationship between the dominant
man and submissive female. Since then, the amount of storylines that follow this plot are countless.
In Beaumont s version of Beauty and the Beast, Beast manipulated Beauty to fall in love with him
by constantly asking her to marry him. When he starved himself leading to his almost death she was
in a vulnerable state and eventually became submissive and gave into the Beasts wishes. On the
contrary in Fifty Shades of Grey Christian took advantage of the idea that Anastasia liked him and
made her sign a contract if she wanted to be with him. These two dominant men got what they
wanted through manipulation creating a sense of lacking power for the female gender. Women are
supposed to be nurturing and accepting whereas men are dominant and
United Essay
Throughout first year Sem we have talked about a lot of different subjects that ultimately tie all
together as one. The main theme for the year is a call to family and community. To go over this
we read United by Cory Booker. United wasn t just used to be read but it was used to help us
think and connect to what is going on in the real world. To use this connection we used examples of
current events, to use a real world application. In doing this it s made me think more about the
world and what could be done to help with the little issues. In current events we had talked about
many different things. Mostly they consisted of politics, race or killings all around the world.
Hearing about some of these was heartbreaking but important to... Show more content on

One of my favorite events that happened this semester during first year sem was hearing the
voices from inside. Getting to hear these quick poems that these women wrote was amazing.
Most were good and came from the heart. Hearing from these women made me want to talk with
some of them after. When I did go to talk to them I heard about some of their experiences and get
to know why doing this program helps. Some of them were into some hard stuff and lost some of
their family and loved ones because of it. They get ten minutes to write their piece and they really
write what they are thinking. Some talk about their time in jail through a poem and others talk
about what it was like before getting convicted. It would be fun to hear more from them. Another
thing we did was have a talk with Alaina DiGeorgio about having privilege. Doing the bead
activity made you think about what privilege you have. Going through the list made you think
more about what people actually go through on a daily basis. Some people don t get the items that
we have or even the family and friends we might have. There are so many new issues happening
in the world people are losing out on some of the great things that we have as well. The last
activity I talked about ties into United a little bit. Reading United I was reminded about ow little
people only a few hours away have. If they had done the bead activity it would be harder for them
because maybe they might not have the same experiences we have.

Las meninas EssayDiego Velazquez and Pablo Picasso were both great artists. Velazquez created a
beautiful painting called Las meninas . Which means the lady in waiting. He created this painting in
the year 1656. Then three centuries later, 1957,Pablo Picasso created recreations of this painting. He
recreated it 58 times, but in his version cubism. There are many similarities and differences in these
two paintings. There are very few similar things in the painting that are noticeable. Such there are
servants getting a princess ready in Velazquez s painting, but in Picasso s painting all you see is
the princess in this one. They are both wearing white gowns. On the left side of Picasso s painting,
we have a little
