Advocate And Serve
Crutchfield and Grant identify six practices of high impact nonprofits: advocate and serve, make
markets work, inspire evangelists, nurture nonprofit networks, master the art of adaptation, and
share leadership. All of these practices proved to be crucial in the success of the twelve featured
nonprofits, however, there are two practices that I find to be more intriguing than the rest.
Advocate and serve and inspire evangelists are the two practices that stand out. The practice of
advocate and serve was a new concept to me, which is, in part, why I found it particularly
interesting. The practice of inspiring evangelists, is a concept I am familiar with, but I have never
seen it articulated this well.
Advocate and serve is complex practice. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This could be the answer to the issue addressed by Berger and Neuhaus in their essay entitled, To
Empower People: From State to Civil Society. They write about the paradox of the public s desire for
public services, coupled with their resistance to government intervention. When nonprofits are
successful in advocating within the government sphere, they expand opportunities through means
such as: increased government funding, tax breaks, changes to tax codes, policy changes, raised
awareness, and, ultimately, changes to public behavior. These results allow nonprofits the
opportunity to maximize their impact, therefore fulfilling the public need while keeping the
government seemingly uninvolved.
Regardless of one s beliefs on integrating advocacy and service, it is difficult to dispute that social
aliments we face today stem from a deeper issue within the infrastructure of our society. Direct
service organizations offer temporary solutions, a Band Aid, if you will, to buy time for change.
Advocacy groups aim to resolve the root problem that results in the need for the Band Aid. We
need direct service organizations. We need advocacy groups. Does it make sense for the two to be
one in the
Comparing Mccarthy And Communism
During the era of McCarthyism, the country was divided by McCarthy s accusations, threats, and
intimidating tactics. Many Americans were accused of being Communist, both by their government,
friends, neighbors and co workers who had lost their jobs because of being accused of being
Communists. McCarthyism had an enormous effect on the emotional aspect of the country. Non
Communists had to endure the trauma of being accused by their own country. McCarthy s tactics
were dishonorable, as was stated in the video, McCarthyism, McCarthy exploited the Red Scare for
political gain; he claimed to have a list of people that were affiliated with Communism. He threatened
the president, used severe intimidation, and threatened prison, when trying to
Comm 231 Reflection
The class COM 231 overall has helped me in many different ways throughout. I personally feel
like I ve learned many new things as well. Going into the class I thought I was going to have to
surmount a big conflict because public speaking isn t one of my strongest suits. I do always
recommend this class to all of my peers because indeed it does help with public speaking. Through
the class I have improved skills, learned new ones, and even had some tough moments.

During the time that I have been taking COM 231 my writing skills have improved tremendously. I
personally believe that my formatting when I m writing has gotten a lot better because throughout
this class we are continuously making outlines for our speeches. I even learned that
Different Forms Of Co Teaching
Lauren Dursky and I decided that we would implement different forms of co teaching for different
subjects. It did not seem efficient to use the same method for each subject, so we decided to vary the
instruction. For math, we decided to use station teaching. This allows students to discover a true
understanding of each concept through different activities. This style of co teachingalso allows each
teacher to incorporate his or her own unique perspective into the classroom. This style could be
challenging for math because it requires extra planning and you have to make sure both teachers
are teaching similar methods at the same time so movement from one station to the next is smooth.
We then decided to use the teaming method for history. The teaming method allows both teachers
to present their own views to the class and bounce ideas off of each other (The Power of 2, 2005).
Instead of using textbooks to teach history, we decided to take a concept and explore its significance
through events and debates. We would start off by each presenting a different point of view on a
single event and have students divide into two groups based on their initial thoughts. Each teacher
would then lead their portion of the class through research and constructing a debate. After a couple
days spent learning about the situation and preparing an argument, the two halves of the class would
debate.
For language arts we decided to use the parallel teaching method. This method allows for small
Pros And Cons Of Cruel And Unusual Punishment
The eighth amendment states that cruel and unusual punishment can not be inflicted upon
anyone. Although the eighth amendment does state that cruel and unusual punishment can not
be enforced the eighth amendment does not state what cruel and unusual punishment actually
should include. It is hard to decide what punishments should be identified as cruel and unusual. I
believe that there should not be any terrible punishment that is pushed too far to handle although
that is my stand I also believe that some things have an excuse to enforce a cruel and unusual
punishment. Is death penalty cruel and unusual or should it be enforced on certain people is a
question that is commonly asked. Some people can do the unthinkable crimes such as killing
someone or even multiple people something that you believe could never happen or maybe should
never happen. Or maybe something you think there should even be the possibility for it to
happen. Or maybe they raped or molested someone, or maybe hurt a kid or teenager. I personally
do not want people that can do this with no regret or thought to be able to be in my life or even
my world. I believe that there are certain cutoffs on who should get the death penalty and who
should not get the death penalty. People who killed another human being or hurt a child in any
severe way deserves the death penalty. If that child or person does not have the right to live or even
live a normal life anymore then the person who did it should not have the right to live a normal life
or even a life at all. Someone who rob someone or even robs a bank or stole something from a store
should be locked up or put in prison. I believe that walking a certain great amount or being forced
to do hours of laborious work is cruel and unusual but having a prison job and cold showers are
not. Anyone who is in a prison is most likely in there for a reason. The reason being they broke a
law of some sort. Or that person did something that they knew would end them up in jail and still
decided to do it anyways. If you can not stop yourself from doing something that is harmful to
yourself or others then you get to spend some time working like everyone else does on a daily basis.
Another common question asked is
Describe Your Communication Style
I consider myself primarily a Feeler when it comes to communication, since I value getting to
know people, hearing their stories and understanding their backgrounds when I am working with
them. I enjoy talking openly as I make acquaintances or get to know new colleagues. For my
secondary communicator style, I believe I am a Senser. Once I have gotten to know someone, I
keep focused on the task at hand and attempt to complete it promptly and diligently. Both at college
and with my work experience, I have noticed that it is easy to get distracted and talk about our
daily lives and worries. However, I can also stay on the task at hand when completely on task. I think
the most difficult style for me to connect with would be an Intuitor, since... Show more content on

For example, my roommate is a biology major and she is a Senser. She is pragmatic and she gets
things done quickly sometimes without bothering to build relationships with her group members.
This is a stark contrast to my other roommate who is a theatre major. He is a Feeler, focusing on
people and valuing relationships above all like I do. I have one friend who is a German major who
is definitely a Thinker. He frequently forgets personal details in favor of focusing on facts. Finally,
one of my friends is a philosophy major and he is an Intuitor. He frequently goes off on tangents and
always thinks about the bigger concept before the facts. Often there can be tension between my
friends, but we usually can focus on the factors which brought us together rather than squabbling
over differences. All these communication styles can work well on projects if each will consider
what the project need. Some require big picture thinking, while others need careful precision.
Working hard to identify the best course of action, even if it is unnatural to you as a communicator,
will help your projects
Iago Is The Protagonist In Othello
Iago is the cunning antagonist in William Shakespeare s tragic play Othello the Moor of Venice, in
which he commits murder, manipulates others to commit murder, or even kill themselves. Written in
1604, the setting of play features two different locations, Venice and Cyprus (Bevington, 2014). The
protagonist is a character named Othello, who is a darkly complected general from Africa. Othello
falls in love with a Venetian woman named Desdemona. Roderigo, a gulled gentleman, is also in
love with Desdemona and enlists the help of Iago, Othello s ancient, to win her love. Furthermore,
Othello recently chose Michael Cassioas his lieutenant over Iago, which angers him. In fact, Iago
states that he hates Othello because he considers Cassio inferior... Show more content on

I know not if t be true; But I, for mere suspicion in that kind,
Will do as if for surety. He holds me well;
Furthermore, Iago also tells the audience that he does not care if it is only a rumor that Emilia
and Othello had an affair, he was going to act on it as if it were fact. Therefore, Iago convinces
Othello to believe that Desdemona is having an affair with Cassio. Iago is able to manipulate how
Othello perceives Desdemona and Cassio by slowing planting doubt and thoughts in Othello s head
(Omer Verona, 1991). Othello, no longer able to take the heartbreak strangles Desdemona, killing her.
Conclusion
Othello, the Moor of Venice is a play about persuasion and jealousy. Most people think about
Othello being enraged with jealousy and killing his wife. However, it is Iago who is truly jealous.
Jealous of Cassio being promoted, and jealous of the rumors that both Cassio and Othello had slept
with his wife, Emilia. Therefore, Iago creates an elaborate maniacal plot, using anyone and
everyone, regardless of their feelings, to get what he wants,
Advantages And Disadvantages Of A Cry
Now and then we as a whole need a decent cry. We may not have any desire to, on the grounds that
it makes us look powerless, yet that doesn t mean it s a bit much. Crying originates from the most
profound and most defenseless parts of ourselves and may make us look feeble, however, a short
time later, we turn out the flip side much more grounded. Crying is ended up being useful for both
enthusiastic and physical wellbeing.

So in the event that you haven t had a decent cry in quite a while, here are five shocking advantages
that may make you need to go watch a truly dismal motion picture:

1. A good cry will help you be more creative

By one means or another, our most prominent trials and the most powerless parts of ourselves wind
up in workmanship and writing. That profound feeling makes them genuine. Some of our most
noteworthy works are made from the most individual parts of ourselves. Crying permits the
innovative procedure to prosper in light of the fact that you are feeling such genuine, immaculate
feeling. Having the capacity to channel those emotions into craftsmanship or writing lets out the
suppressed anxiety and tension in our lives. When it s out, you re left without the weight of such
feeling and now have something unmistakable to appear for it. This bit of craftsmanship now can
possibly impact a ton of other individuals. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It releases toxins from the body

Tears regularly accompany push. This happens in light of the fact that crying can discharge the
poisons created by stress (like the concoction leucine enkephalin) which lessens torment. Once you
ve completed the process of crying, you ll feel detectably better. This is on the grounds that crying
lets your body dispose of those poisons harming you physically and influencing you inwardly. Now
that they re gone, you feel candidly lighter and somewhat superior to anything you did some time
recently.

3. Tears kill harmful

Separation Of Alantolactone Lab Report
3.2 Selection of soluble silver salt for the mobile phase
Soluble silver salt in the mobile phase provided silver ion for the interactions with unsaturated C C
bonds. Silver nitrate (AgNO3) that act as sources of silver ions has been frequently used in silver
ion chromatography. However, bitrate radical (NO3-) in the mobile phase has the stronger
background absorption among 190 ~ 240 nm as shown in Fig.2a [40]. Since the UV detection
wavelength of alantolactone and isoalantolactone was also in the range of 190 to 240 nm as shown
in Fig.2b [41], AgNO3 in mobile phase can cause extremely strong background absorption
interference, as shown in Fig.2c and Fig.2d. For this reason, we selected silver perchlorate (AgClO4)
as sources of silver ions, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Variation of the resolution for positional pairs as illustrated in Fig. 3. A separation system in
which the silver ions were added into mobile phase for the separation of some geometrical
isomers of monoenoic fatty acids in fat and oil samples was investigated by Correa [42], where
silver ions concentration in mobile phase at less 60 Mm could achieve good separation. However,
for improving the resolution of the two positional isomers in present study, 5.0% of AgClO4 (about
240 Mm) in the mobile phase can obtain the baseline separation. It should be noted that resolution of
these two compounds was not unceasingly achieved obvious improvement when concentration of
AgClO4 in the mobile phase was increased from 5% to 6% as showed in

Comparison Of Chinatown And The Big Sleep
Comparing ChinaTown and the Big Sleep

ChinaTown, directed by Roman Polanski, is a non traditional hard nosed detective film made in the
70 s. The typical elements of character type are there; J.J. Gittes (a private detective in LA) played
by Jack Nicholson is the central character, sharing the spotlight is Fay Dunaway playing the femme
fatale Evelyn Mulwray. This film breaks all types of norms when compared to the hard nosed
detective films it is modeled after. The film is filled with allusions to the Big Sleep, especially
taken from scenes of Marlowe and Vivian. Chinatown has formal elements indicative that it is going
to be in the style of traditional Film Noir hardboiled detective, until you examine the characters

While he tells the off color joke is the real Evelyn Mulwray , standing behind him waiting with her

This would have never happened to Marlowe. Gattis looked like a fool.

Gettis couldn t get a one liner right if his nose depended on it. Throughout the film Gettis is
screwing up jokes or lines that were meant to be sharp and humorous. In opposition to Gettis,
Marlowe is socially smooth and rather witty. You could almost say Gettis is clumsy and crass. The
impression we are left with about Gettis is normalizing. Gettis loses the stature that comes with a
protagonist filled with bravado. He comes off kind of plain, almost corny, a regular guy.

As a detective Gettis has done very well by himself. He has Venetian blinds in his office, wears a
well tailored white suit and seems to be wealthy from his trade. In contrast, Marlowe from the Big
Sleep is barely getting by with P.I. work. It is implied that he isn t materialistic and it wouldn t out
of character for him to do work

Pro bono. Gettis is a P.I. known mostly for divorce work (catching adultery) and spying on the
unsuspecting. As a protagonist he doesn t come off very ethical. Polanski didn t make a character
the audience would love right off the bat. Supplying Curly with pictures of his wife s adultery in the
opening scene doesn t paint Gettis into a picture of the model for ethics.

Eveylyn Mulwray is no Vivian in the Big Sleep. Although
